Really enjoyed this episode and appreciated how much ground you guys covered. Please consider doing an episode on Hermeticism + Gnosticism...would be fun to hear your take on all that. Ladder 49 fan. Wish there could have been a 3rd season.
We are constantly trying new things, so yes we’ve considered that for sure! For now, you can email us stories, remarks, or just gifs at questions at chinwagpod dot fm. We read every single one!
No they didn’t. Lavey would have been just barley 17 in the USA, when Crowley died in 1947, and L Ron Hubbard was likely on the Commodore sea org boat in the 60s and early 70s when Lavey would have just been establishing the CoS in the mid late 60s in San Francisco. The main connection between Crowley and Hubbard was Jack Parsons of Jet Propulsion Laboratories in California when they collaborated on the Babylon Working ritual. The only likely connection of any of those names would be Lavey and Hubbard. But it’s incredibly unlikely, unmentioned, and undocumented that they ever crossed paths.
I knew a Satanist when I was in the military. The guy was extremely well-versed in the Satanist dogma, and we spent a lot of time discussing what the Church of Satan was all about. I came away with the view that Satanism was really just a way to package hedonistic atheism into a romantic package that could be used to justify whatever someone might want to do. For instance, this Satanist I knew was promiscuous. Where in most cases women typically wouldn't find this attractive. But when he would present it as a Satanistic practice many women found his promiscuity to be intriguing.
Amazing podcast, you nailed it. I love Paul Giamatti so much he's a fantastic actor he deserves so much praise. I watch any movies and I love this podcast so much cool that we can hear him have a conversation, he's very intelligent
Have to be honest. I need to see you guys talking. Just the sound doesn’t do it for me. I know it’s a podcast and it doesn’t suppose to include video. But I got used to see you guys and now I can’t go back! 😅
Wait. Atheism is just dull, old chess players drinking flat sodas in dimly lit rooms? Really? :D BTW, Crowley supposedly died in 1947, not the 1960s - But did he really die, or is he still with us? Hmmm? :D
Regarding the Pentagon and evil. In the late 60’s during Vietnam protests at the Pentagon, two members of the rock band The Fugs (Ed Sanders and Tuli Kupferberg (who was mentioned in the poem Howl as a failed suicide) did a exorcism of the building) which showed up on one of their records. ruclips.net/video/1Wcz0lEYS64/видео.html

Crowley (rhymes with holy) popped his clogs in 1947... Another great episode -- infernally entertaining.
Infernally split-toe mayhaps?
