Both of my UV-5R’s never say “FACTORY”. They just show “WELCOME” instead. Did the menu RESET but even after that.. no FACTORY appears. Just WELCOME. Was there a change that prevents this now??

OK! I gave you some c*** on a previous video for using the Baofang because they were cheap and not as good as Icoms and Yaesu. But, I was wrong. I recently purchased 2, and I'm liking them so far. I could buy the complete Baufueng radio set of two, for what it would cost me to buy one and a half replacement batteries for my Icom IC-T81A, However, I did find that they are not "legal" for use on GMRS or FMRS in the US.

"To be approved for GMRS, radios must be certified under USC 47 Part 95 or grandfathered in under USC 47 Part 90. The FCC also requires that GMRS radios come with their channels already programmed."
no it save the last setting, you can also l;ock it. Which is great cause you can set the freq/LOCK them and pass them out. Pick a good Simplex Feq from GMRS, setting LOW

I use them as VERY powerful 2 way radios, on GMRS freq, I obtained a licence for $35, no test, and its good for my whole group for 10 years. These are reliable out to 2 miles, over hills, valleys and bad weather so far. They are CLEAR and cheap, very happy!

I don't think this works, tried several times. My screen kinda comes on and I hear a clicking sound every 2 seconds. Screen doesn't fully come on until I release the buttons.
its kind of weird, I think pushing the buttons all at the same time, as directed, is a bit finicky. Those with small hands have issues ...... took me 3 tries, then it worked....looking back I was not holding all the buttons right
when you buy yours? Sounds like you have a newer one... I suggest contacting Radioddity and asking them which models will unlock and buying those. Plus they sell them the cheapest

So different law's etc, may apply?
If I would have had this in my teens I would have been a certified menace our PD operated on the 150mhz range. 😂 Back in the late 90s I turned my old UHF/VHF tv into a scanner just by opening the back and turning an adjustment screw back or forth😂

Range depends on terrain. Tall buildings/heavy trees, etc. will limit to possibly only a few hundred feet. Open planes or atop two mountains will be line of sight, so virtually unlimited range

Firmware versions in the last couple of years dont expand without certain CPS software and a PC. Forget Baofeng get the new Quanshang UV5R plus. 6 bands out of the box and reflashable for more, and about the same money

must be some models they locked...Ive heard a few wouldn't unlock. Try Radioddity ask them which one will unlock order from them, $20 BAOFENGs

2013 models weren't locked. You can already transmit on all the frequencies the radio is capable of.

It might already be unlocked. One of mine came pre jailbroken, didn't say "factory" when I did it.
