Only person who shows proper playback test
Maybe a bit speedy but it's there 😁
Very happy with your tests
Great vid. I subbed and liked.
Excellent in depth Comparison of how different memory sizes affects your Video Editing. Thanks for sharing this information, I am sure there will be many people are just getting their feet wet with Video Editing who will appreciate a Video of this nature. ☕💜
Thanks man 👍
Adobe is the worst here, even with 64GB it can eat up everything once motion graphics comes to play... But much better situation than on 32GB. If I had more RAM I would have tested with 128GB also 👍
Now we know why all your videos looks so awesome in 4K! \m/
Hahaha no it's the camera, RAM is there to help edit faster 💪
@@LevelUPGamingTech Yes, but it spare your time... 😁
@@thetufna That's for sure 👍
Thanks bro

Hey, i am late, thanks for the content! Just a question, is a 3060ti with a i5 12400F and 32 GB of ram/3200 mhz a good configuration for using premiere? I have built that configuration for gaming, but i may use it to edit too.
You can edit, but use proxies, and know that you are CPU limited not GPU limited for Premiere. I would suggest you try Resolve as well, it will utilize more of the GPU and might even work faster on your PC 👍
What were the clips shot in? My laptop perfectly handles 1080p 4:2:2 10-Bit. I'm considering upgrading from 32gb to 64gb to handle "4K" 4:2:2 10-Bit clips. My 32 gb gets a little slow, even more with graphic effects when shooting 4K. I've been able to get away with working on and delivering 1080p, but I do this for a living so sacrificing video quality is not on my list.
For editing in 1080 60fps with CC, a lot of fusion effects, 3d objects, animations, a long and layered timeline, etc... do you think 64gb is overkill? I have no plan to edit 4k videos in the future... Do you think 32 is enough for some crazy 1080 60fps editing? Thanks!
Everyone says it's overkill but I find Davinci Resolve so demanding that I honestly don't know...
I usually edit 2.7k gopro videos. I have a laptop for this but with only 8gb of DDR4 RAM I thought I could use more so I just bought a 32gb 3200mhz kit. That with the 3050 ti video card and the i7 12700H processor, I think it should do this ok. I was only concerned about the ram only being 8gb.
I have ryzen 5 5600x and rtx 3060
So for 4k videos should i use 32gb ram or 64? If there is not much diff i can buy 32.
Brother I m rendering 1 hour video ( hd, not 4k) with a lot of effects ( motion, transitions, texts, etc) how much RAM will I need??
Is 64 still enough for that?
Cuz my 16 gb crashed today and pc is not even working, but I need to buy a new ram and finish the project😢
is 4 x 32 gb ddr4 3200mhz okay to use with a ryzen 5900x or am I better off only using two of those sticks?
Thanks, btw what spec of your cpu & gpu in this video? Tq
Hey man, CPU used was AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, GPU was MSI RTX 2080Ti Gaming X Trio and the board was X570S Aero G by Gigabyte
@@LevelUPGamingTech tq man
Great comparison 🙂 I'm glad the 32GB is the sweetspot since it's not too expensive.
How much free RAM do you leave in the settings for other apps?
10 gigs tops 😂
sometimes my 32gb ram pegs out and crashes shotcut. I'm gonna have to get more.
I currently have a i9-9900k paired with 64GB of ram @ 3200 and while editing 4k60 footage on my premiere timeline I kept experiencing lag and stuttering on live previews at full, 1/2 and 1/4 resolution (4k60 on a 1080p30 timeline) and even single layers with no effects other than an adjustment layer (on or off didnt change performance) and it was smashing my cpu @ 100% constantly after about 2-3 seconds of playback. I have about 50gb allocated and optimized all my setting with only premiere running and it was driving me crazy. I gave up after hours of going down rabbit holes and just said screw it, upgrading to a 14th gen i9-14900k with 128gb ddr5. Its a 5-6 year old PC setup and with GTA 6 coming out in the next year or two ill end up upgrading my STRIX RTX 2080 upon release so I may as well get half the upgrade of it out of the way.
Totally lost my initial reason for commenting, this video is EXACTLY what I needed to see, nothing else gave me as much insight as this one
Try intel 12th gen with integrated GPU or above, these CPU support better video codec and media engine, it help a lot in rendering and playback video
Looks like 16gb of ram is not too bad for editing, just 39 seconds slower than 32 gigs wow 😎👍
Thanks very much for sharing this video! 💖
*Greetings from Costa Rica!* 🌴
BTW how much this video weights in gigs? Just curious because of the 4k output size...
16Gb will get you by, for 1080p tops... more than that, it's a struggle...
Regarding the size of a video, that also depends on how much information is there in a video, for example, if there are a lot of moving objects in the frame, it will require more space, if the video is for example a static screen or few movements in the frame it will require less space. This one came out in 4.5-5 gigs, but I am always exporting in high bitrate because YT is compressing it again, so this is on purpose so it would not lose quality afterwards.
For the most of the videos I export RAW, size for a 10 min videos are around 70GB on average 😂
@@LevelUPGamingTech Oh ok, cool info, thanks Vlad 👍
Woahh that RAW size is tooo high! how do you store them? 😅
@@gabrielgranadosg I keep project files and all the files from camera, and compressed final file, raw output is deleted once I get it in deliverable format for YT 😀
@@LevelUPGamingTech Oh very cool, I understand why u have to delete them so you can have more free storage space 👍
I have 16gb right now and I’m editing 4K 10bit video. Definitely a struggle!! Will upping to 32 solve problems like very slow scrubbing and playback? I know about proxies and they help but I can’t stand how long it takes to make the proxies. Lo
what's your take on editing 4k 2 hour movies ? what sort of processor would you use ?
For editing longer videos and using DaVinci resolve, I get better results with Ryzen 9 rather than with Intel i9. But if I use Premiere, things are better on Intel, just my 2 cents on this. 64 or more GB of RAM are needed, do not go crazy with effects at first stage, do all the cuts first, you will have a flawless workflow later on, so basically cut through everything, assemble the movie and then go on with effects and everything at last stage, should be a hassle free job even for Ryzen 7 or i7 CPUs.
@@LevelUPGamingTech what about color grading ? which is a perfect GPU and CPU combination along with monitor for accurate color ? i mean they're meant for the cinema so yeah .. need to be top notch
@@convonation4644brother how did it turn out for u? I’m currently editing 1 hour movie with a lot of graphics and effects - I had 16GB RAM all this time and today the computer crashed and now it turn off 3 seconds after turning on, so I guess my RAM died, I’m thinking if I buy 64 gb, will it be enough for 1 hour movie?
Also, does ddr4 and ddr5 make any difference is so far as editing?
Im thinking of getting the HP Victus 16-r0063TX RTX 4050, Intel i7-13700HX 32GB DDR5.
Would this be sufficient enough for 4k video editing?
Pretty much yeah, should work without breaking a sweat 👍
32 or 64 gig for Resolve 4k? (gopro and gaming footage) 5800X fine or upgrade to 5900X or even 5950X advised? Rebuilding/refitting my system to sff anyways, so...
32 is fine, but 64 gigs are of course better, if you can get a nice kit for cheap since you are going with sff build, you need 2x32 sticks... 5800X is pretty much ok no worries there since GPU will be used more in Resolve. Of course 5900X is better, without a doubt but not that much, same goes with 5900x vs 5950x, small difference
Which one is better for Premiere Pro render and preview
Rtx 3060 with 64 gb ram ?
Rtx 3060ti with 32 gb ram ?
64GB with 3060 👍
Does processor also matters in editing?
And if yes then how much and what is best?
Of course it does, a lot! Anything with 8 or more cores would be the best choice, no need to go above, I mean it is better of course, but just start from 8 cores and up. I found out that AMD Ryzen CPUs work better for editing in Resolve, while Intel is better for Premiere
Should I really go 96Gb RAM, I already use 26Gb for studies and wish to do 4k editing later this year. Please lmk your opinion, it'll help a ton and I'm going to use the laptop for next 8 years
what about 128gb 3600mhz? I have a r9 3900x, rtx2080 and 32gb 3200mhz ram, and when I use premiere / after effects, it gets SO slow sometimes, and even black screens, crashing, that force me to restart the PC, with motion graphics, effects, animation.. idk why, but it drives me crazy.. thought of buying 64gb of ram and upgrade my disks, but maybe I can go to 128gb of ram and be safe for a lot more of time.. it is worth it??
It is for After Effects mostly, it is RAM hungry always 😢
Hey can you help me? I'm building a PC for Audio Production. Most times I have 70 different plugins in a single mixing session and it doesn't work right. idk what is more important, CPU, RAM or Hard Drive.
In your case you need RAM but also as much CPU power as possible, plugins are CPU hungry, for the storage since you are building a PC for audio, hard drives are out of the question, those are LOUUUUUUD. You need NVME drives, I highly suggest Kingston KC3000 for general purpose 👍
@@LevelUPGamingTech Thank you!!
Looking for Lenovo Legion Pro 7i (gen 8), is 32gb RAM and rtx4080 enough in terms of 4k video editing and 4k playback?
Yeah you will be fine with it :)
I’m running davinci with the Ryzen7 3700x with a Radeon RX 580 with dual vengeance pro ddr4 sticks 2x16. I mainly do music videos and commercial work but I almost always have to use proxies at the lowest playback settings. Not entirely sure where I should start as far as upgrading for better performance. Do you think going from 32gb to 64gb would make a difference with my workflow?
Not that much, but you would benefit VERY MUCH by getting at least RTX 3070 👌 You would work without proxies for sure, Radeon cards simply do not work good with Resolve at all...
@@LevelUPGamingTech thanks for the reply is there a cheaper alternative to the RTX3070?
Mmmm unfortunately no, you may try getting second hand 2080Ti for example... Anything that is not AMD card. Even 3060 would do the trick
Is there a video editi by software that supports 4k export for low end pc? Im currently having 16 gb ram, Ryzen 5 3500X and RTX3060ti
Try DaVinci Resolve free version, should work perfectly fine with that hardware, since it will utilize GPU more
@@LevelUPGamingTech glad to hear! I will give it a try, thank you!
Yes, I use davinci with 11600k and rtx 2070. It's ok for the occasional 4K editing
On a Acer aspire 5 only 4 gb of ram
Amd Eysenck 3 3200u with radeon Vega mobile gf 2.60 GHz
If I upgrade it to a 64 gb would my computer be able to edit 4k videos
It’s constantly lagging it’s impossible to edit. I don’t know much about computers I’m looking for a way to fix this issue
That laptop just ain't for editing, more RAM will not help you since you are CPU and GPU limited more than with RAM. Unfortunately only a new laptop or desktop PC will do the trick...
Hi i'm looking to upgrade my setup. Right now i've only 32 gb of ram, but i work a lot with heavy effects in both premiere and after effects, also work with clips in both the apps at the same time.
On my last project i had to give up because the playback was too painfull.
Should i upgrade to 64gb, 128, or maybe i should also look after a better cpu? righ now i'm running a i7 10700k
Enable Mercury Cuda support for GPU accelerated effects (suppose you have NVidia card) this will help you with After Effects mostly, but also 64 GB of RAM will help A LOT with it, especially with Dynamic Link.
Also consider switching to DaVinci Resolve, at least for the editing part. I am not here to convert you, convince you and such, just talking from the perspective of a long term Adobe user and it is soooooo much less stressful to work in Resolve at least for the editing part. I still use After Effects for various graphs and animations 😄
P.S. I tried Premiere on a video 2 days ago, it was fun, for the whole 5 minutes, then I was reminded why I switched to Resolve and why 32GB in it is doing wonders compared to 32GB in Premiere... just saying 😉
@@LevelUPGamingTech mercury cuda should already be toggled on, but i don't see much help even with a 4090 :/
I was already considering switching, but i've worked with premiere for many years now, it would be a shock to re learn everything from the bottom x.x
I'll consider trying out 64gb, and if it still doesn't work, guess i'll swith to Resolve
Thank you for your help
@@KocaiOfficial Trust me, if you decide to switch, you will have absolutely 0 problems adapting to Resolve, it's easier when you already know PR 😉
But again 64GB would not hurt, not even if you use them on Resolve later on 😄
@@LevelUPGamingTech do you think 128 would be overkill?
Probably 😃
is this also valid for ddr5 faster memories ? thanks
or could 32gb of ddr5 memories be better for editing than 32gb of ddr4 ?does it change a lot ?
thanks
32 is that sweet spot, regardless if it is DDR4 or DDR5, between the two only speed is the difference, when you start using a lot of graphics and memory hungry things while editing 64GB would be needed. But again 32 will suffice for now 😉
@@LevelUPGamingTech you are totally right thanks
So now I must go for 32GB RAM
Hey, RAM costs a lot in my country here. So can I edit 4k smoothly with 24gb RAM?
Use proxies and you will be fine
Im buying a streaming/gaming pc for my brother and im getting him either 16 GB DDR5-5200 or 32 DDR5-5600 ram
The problem is im clueless on whether to get the 16GBs to save some cash or spend more for the 32 GBs
This is because idk if 16GB will be enough to stream/game and record at 1440p without problems
Advice?
Get 32 immediately and do not worry about it later.... games need more RAM now anyway, plus it will be better utilized for streaming as well as editing later on
Definitely get at least 32gb of ram. I game and stream off the same laptop and it works great. Keep in mind certain games require certain specs to play. I can game/stream Fortnite without flaw, but Call of Duty Warzone I couldn't in the beginning. The game is too demanding. What did help me counter that was adding in a NVME m.2 drive to separate my games from the C drive. This will give your computer some room to breathe as it essentially doesn't have to work overtime to process the game and streaming program at the same time. Have OBS (streaming platform) on the C drive, and the games on the other drive. (Recommend using NVME as they are super fast) Now I can comfortably stream and play Call of Duty at the same time. Hope this helps!
will i be fine with ryzen 7 and 32 gb of memory? i don't always edit in 4k but at times.
More than fine man 😉
I have a laptop with intel core i7 13 generation, 16 gb RAM, geforce rtx 4080 with 8gb dedicated, and still it lags with davinci resolve? why is that? do i need to upgrade to 32GB OF RAM? would that be enough? thank you!!
Which laptop?
i know that when 8gig was the must have, i went for 16 10yrs ago. if 32 gig is the next must have the 64 is reasonable.....
Exactly my thinking 😊 DDR5 now comes at 32 as some optimal standard... so double that or even add more now 😂

At least 32 GB for todays standards, you should be ok for 4K rendering. As for the tips until you upgrade, work with proxies, should be better. After upgrading the RAM, consider getting at least something like RTX 3070, that should be more than enough for a much comfortable editing experience 👍
Oh and huge tip if you are using DaVinci Resolve, never ever get the Radeon card 😁
@@LevelUPGamingTech any brand suggestions and what mega hertz would be the best for my build i got gigabyte b550 gaming x v2
I highly suggest Kingston, Crucial and TeamGroup so pick your fav, speed exactly 3600MHz since that CPU will be at the sweet spot, anything higher won't actually work, not even if you upgrade to 5xxx series after...
i just bought 64gb of ram, I hope it's worth it! But I don't know why when I had 32 gb it always lagged a lot. I did everything to optimize it and it still lagged frequently
Some codecs are really hard to decode in real time, so for some workflows even with 64GB of RAM, working with Proxies is the best option
are those 2 curved monitors?
Yep, moved to 1 ultrawide now
Is 32gb enough for full quality 4k playback after heavy grade I have a nvidia gtx 1650 4gb
DaVinci Resolve will playback smoothly, it will use something between 24-26 GB in that case...
@@LevelUPGamingTech without proxies?
@@CC.cinematics Nope, should be ok without it. But once again it depends what do you mean by "heavy grade" as Resolve handles basic color corrections pretty fine. The only hiccups could be if you start using denoiser. But anyhow, if there is an issue, you could use proxies, at least that's super easy in Resolve... Also newer versions 17 & 18 have the option to render out the preview so it's buttery smooth playback afterwards
@@LevelUPGamingTech so in your opinion applying noise reduction might hamper playback?

You can try I creasing RAM it would help, because 8 GB just is not even close to enough. Try from there and then if you want to do AE and all that as a business you must invest in a decent machine, not a laptop.
3:13 Vlad my man, what do u mean here? RAM goes up to 26 GB of usage and never above?
It goes up to 26GB of usage in total, since the reset of the memory is system reserved... 32GB should be ok btw since you mentioned you have a lot of effects, but 64 will get you places if your edits are complex. 16 in todays standards is simply not enough...
There should be a new v2 video soon :) Since some things have changed a lot :)
RAM is so cheap now as far as DDR4 so everyone should max out there motherboard.
Zebra DelGuard Mechanical Pencil
Oh yeah, best pencil I ever owned, so easy to work with 👌
I guess my 8gb ram wont be enough then...
You can start with proxies that might do the trick in the beginning. Basically what proxies do is creating lower resolution files of your main files, for easier editing, once you export the final video it will use original files. Try this, it might help you.
@@LevelUPGamingTech thanks ill look into it
Good video BUT NOT subtitles in 2023, incredible.

Damn my Adobe premier crashes on anything now, probably 16 RAM is too small amount? No way I will be able to edit 1 hour video🥲
Gonna try buying 64
This is the issue with Premiere, simply said it sucks. I mean it works up to the point when it's just a complete mess. I switched long time to DaVinci Resolve and never looked back. Out of curiosity since Premiere was updated now, I wanted to see how it is, and that was it, I saw and closed it immediately 😁 It's awful and painful to bnegin with, feels so slugish compared to Resolve now.
@@LevelUPGamingTech oh I wish I knew brother, but I now have 1 hour project 1 year in the making in Adobe done, and now that it came time to render , I don’t know if I will be able to pull it out.
Maybe I should try rendering segments (like 10 minutes) and making them into a separate videos
And then I’ll have 6 videos that I put on a timeline and render altogether?
Will it take less RAM and effort from Adobe?
Although I wouldn’t feel safe with 64 GB ram even!
Render like that, just check use previews at the export later, so it won't render again but use already rendered segments. You would not be safe even with 128GB it's not RAM fault it is Premire's fault 😪 Consider switching to Resolve, switch is easy if you already know Premiere...
