Can someone clarify where this seipai came from? it is very different from the Shorei-kan (Goju Ryu) version. Oyama modified it? Reason I ask is this was the Seipai I learned back in 1980's in Kyokushinkai Puerto Rico. Then as it came to pass, I learned the Goju Ryu version also. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I would assume that Oyama modified it from Goju ryu.Seipai is actually a Fuzhou (capital city in Fujian, China) word, meaning eighteen. The kata is adapted from the Chinese White Crane kung fu by Higaonna Kanryo. Chojun Miyagi, Higaonna's student, and founder of Goju Ryu, further modified it slightly.

I would venture to say that's the case with all the kyokushin forms. From what I've seen they all vary from their shotokan and goju-ryu counterparts to varying degrees.

In chinese healing arts breathing sounds causes vibrations which have healing effects on our vital organs. However it wiil be detrimental in the long run if the sound is not right. Base on this basic principle i can never make myself follow thier breathing. Old chinese master had frown on bruce lee sounds.bruce lee died young mas oyama relative died young too.
