I purchased quite a few of your tools, I love all of them
This is one beautiful platter bowl Hsin-Chuen
Thank you for sharing with us
You’re welcome! Happy new year 🎊
I am jealous. Creating such beautiful and useful things with your own hands must be very satisfying.
Thank you Hsinchuen Lin !! This video has helped me immensely in throwing large platters !! I watch it before I throw, and my platters have been coming out perfect every time.....no cracks on the bottom. I use 15 ibs of clay.
Wow, that is a lot of clay. Wonderful!
Hi, using slip instead of water and you should be able to throw a pot without splash pan. Please keep on watch my other videos and you will find the answer in the videos.
Thanks! I used particleboard with veneer on the top side. I did cut the platter when finished but I have trouble editing that part into this video. The trick to cut a large platter is with your both thumbs holding down the wire on the bat and straightens the wire as much as possible and spins the wheel. It's important to cut it off when wet; otherwise it will be very hard to cut it.
Hsinchuen Lin I was just looking for an answer to that question. 😆 Wonderful, as always.
I can’t believe you didn’t show slicing it off the mega bat!!! Great vid well done!
@nottonite Because there are no pin holes on my bats, and this is also a demo to show people who don't have pins on their wheels and still want to attach a bat on the wheel.
I hope some day I have the same level of control as he does!
Practice, practice, practice............
+Hsinchuen Lin - Very nice!... I'm wondering if there's a video that shows how you glazed this large platter?... I'd also really love to see how it turned out after you took it out of the kiln... Thanks for the video! :)
Your platter looks awesome and so effortless. Do you have to trim the bottom of this platter or are you thin enough on the bottom?
How do you get the platter off the bat to trim it? 90% of the time I try to cut off plates and platters with a wire tool it comes up through the clay and ruins my piece. And thank you so very much for putting these videos up, they have inspired and taught me so much!
thank you for beautiful demo. Much appreciated.
Thank you. Wonderful to watch.
Throwing a large platter : how much clay and what kind did you use?
Barbara Gi a lot and light brown
I have decided after watching this that there is no magic in my hands.
that's what she said.
cound agree more, but thinking of my hands, lol
great artist
Hi, Do you trim a foot? Or is it a flat bottom??
Why did you use veneer on your bat? Was it to make the release of your platter easier? You would still have to cut it with a wire, right?
Well thrown. Does the rim rise as it stiffens?
thank you so much for this Hsinchuen Lin - you make it look easy but I'm sure I'll find it's not!
When I throw a large platter, while opening up ,the middle keeps coming up, can you tell me what I am doing wrong?
Pushing down too much. I used to have this problem with porcelain, but when opening up on really soft clay, you don't need to push as hard because it is very responsive. Also, the angle of your fingers plays a role. If I push straight down with my thumb, clay is forced out of the way. It goes to both sides of my thumb. If I angle my thumb so that the thumbprint is facing the wall a little, almost all of the clay goes that way. Of course, if you are throwing lids with knobs, pushing straight down is what you want.
i know this is quite late, but using a wooden rib to smooth it out or the side of your palm to do pulls are two very helpful methods
How do you throw so dry? I see you do not use a splash pan and it appears you use very minimal amounts of water. How do you not get friction?
Hi can you tell me please how do you drie them in order not to deform or not to crack? Thank you!
Wrap the rim with plastic bag while the center is drying.
Hi master Lin. Can you tell me how to make clay more elastic and good for throwing ?
was that a plaster bat?? how did you get that off the wheel? did you cut it off?
Great editing.
How do you get that off the bat? Is that a piece of drywall you are throwing on?
-B
where is the mess where does all the water go?
Using wetter clay means he doesn't need to wet his hands as much, so there is very little mess.
In the room, the women come and go, talking of Michaelangelo.
Great reference!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would be nice to see the finished result
Hi, please watch my video #60 for the finished result.
What trademark of potter wheel you use?
What is the diameter of that wheel?
perfect as usual!
Great technique.
You are amazing!!
For the first minute, I thought he was throwing the platter over the bat keys. *facepalm*
Lovely demonstration.....but the withering women from wherever...argh!
likewise I was like wait what?!
Wonderful!
How do you take this size platter from the bat?
Nora Dekovich from the looks of it, he's using a plaster bat which will generally become extremely easy to remove once it teaches leather hard, which is the perfect stage for trimming.
Plaster board would not come that thick and would not be a good material for this. It is more than likely made out of countertop material - but it does not look like the typical laminate on particle board...
shout outs to Christina Aguilera playing in the background (listen with headphones)
Beautiful!
INSTANT BIRDBATH BINGO
I love your arte, thanks
what clay is this?
Susan Delgrande I think he mentioned in earlier videos he uses porcelain clay
Wonderful ! Thanks
That is a beautiful platter. How did you decorate it? I don't suppose it is a conducive shape for chattering. The very talkative women in the background of your videos are very distracting. But your work is awesome.
So Nice ❤
Excelente gracias.
Merci c'est super
nice

that brent cant keep up with her
Great video! Amazing result for such a large piece. If you are interested, I just completed a documentary short film about an Australian family of potters -- actually the largest pottery of its kind in Australia. It's now on youtube "Robert Gordon Australia -- Family". You may be interested in their approach to making, and the way they work hand-in-hand with their clients. Lovely family too.
When all you want to do is throw in peace but you are forced to listen to the entire hen house chatter and gossip nonstop.....
Just turn the sound off. I do this when the demonstrator does not speak the same language that I can understand
I'm 800 likes..!!
Those women are loud!
ich will auch basteln
