😂😂😂 Some things never change. Very educational and very funny.
Nice hack, Ben ❤👍.
Haha, thanks. Inefficiency drives me up the wall
@@benjones5799 I'm totally on the same page.
I agree! Haha
0:40 that was such a Ben moment. Love your naughty laugh. Great hack!
:)
:)
All I have to say is, "ohhhhh Ben 🤣🤣🤣" you didn't disappoint us one bit 😄
Did you watch all the way to the end?
Brilliant idea. Thanks for sharing!
:)
😄👍
Awesome - thanks for sharing! (Love the snake lol)
lol... I was wondering if anyone would see that!
Me too! haha
Love the hack thanks very informative very funny cheers
You're welcome 😂
Hahaha XD. That's not a gas cylinder...... This is a gas cylinder
haha
you can easily cut a small hole in the back of the base to make it look a bit better.
Good suggestion, Jason W.
you can also buy a connector to refill the small soda stream bottle from a large bottle like shown in the video in the event you don't have a place for the large bottle or tube where you prefer to have the soda stream.
Yea, I never had much luck with those, but there are definitely plenty of options out there
@@benjones5799 When you say not much luck, are they problematic, don't fill correctly etc? I saw that Kegland was selling them, but only just bought a soda stream so still investigating my future options. would appreciate any further info you have on that device. Thanks
@@cotteeskid I found I lost too much gas, or they didn't fill up properly
to fill bottle to bottle, you will need to freeze your sodastream bottle, but also have your source bottle upside down
Handy to know!
If you wind going this route for conversion, keep in mind that AU and US soda stream connectors are different dimensions
Good to know. I'm sure you could search ebay with the correct dimensions for your machine :) Thanks for your comment.
hahaha good stuff! Wanna share where we can get a bottle and food grade gas? :)
Any homebrew shop. Kegland online has them for 89 bucks
Or from a scuba diving shop (food grade CO2).
Problem too is where do you store that huge thing!
We just keep it behind our kitchen bench in the corner, but other friends have purchased smaller versions (3 kg) and find it fits well :) If you're really hardcore you could drill out a small hole in your counter top and keep the bottle in the cupboard with the connecting pipe coming up and and out to your Soda Stream. Thanks for your comment!
Nope, we gotta pay $20 to exchange 'em, too. :( Also! I'm glad you made it a point to demonstrate routing the hose through the bottom of the SodaStream unit; I was gearing up to bore a hole through the back of the housing; now I need only grind away a small portion at the rear of the base to route the hose.
Glad it was helpful! Replacing the bottles is so expensive. We've never looked back since finding this hack. Thanks for your comment!
@@NotOnlyCarrots Yeah, I can see that. This is my first SodaStream (Genesis), got it for Christmas, but I've been considering doing this since I first found out about SodaStream. I think I eventually wanna get something like a 20lb cylinder, but I think that's still a waaaaaaays down the road lol
@@ChozoSR388 we can get 6.5kg bottles (roughly 18lb) in Australia from brewer shops for around $80 (50USD) online... might be worth looking around for a homebrew shop. It may not be as expensive as you think :)
@@benjones5799 Unfortunately, thanks to good ol' Capitalism, the cheapest cylinders we can get in the US are 5lb (2.2kg) cylinders, and those start at around $65 USD (so, I'm assuming that's around $130 AUD). And a 20lb (~9kg) tank (we seem to get increments of 5lb when it comes to small gas cylinders) can run ya 2-3 times that price or more. Moreover, around here, the biggest tank that most brewing supplies seem to be willing to sell is the 2.2kg model, so when it comes to larger tanks we're mostly at the mercy of one of three acquisition paths; online shopping, medical supply, or junkyard. Could probably see about importing, but the tax would be a killer, I think. That being said, I certainly do appreciate the thought.
@@ChozoSR388 that is strange.. Most things are near half price in the US. Have you checked your local or big city home brew shops? They are the cheapest by far in Australia. Amazon is generally twice the price
do you need to turn off the valve when not using?
nope, pressing the button releases the gas
Awesome thanks for the hack, I'm gonna give it a go... where do you get the big cylinder from originally?
You're most welcome! We actually purchased it online. Search "purchase food grade C02 6kg". You'll save a heap of $$$!
Hi
Hi!
Howdy!
Dislike it if you're a sodastream rep 😂😂
lol
why not just refill the sodastream tank with dry ice. It's like $2 Dry ice is frozen CO2 Who wants to lug around that giant tank?
yea, that works too. Takes a bit more effort though. But if you were on a budget, for sure that would work. Also where I am, you can't get dry ice.
Yes, we've seen that done before, but sadly our location is too remote and the dry ice would definitely melt before it arrived. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@benjones5799 To much of a hassle. cylinders are way easy. at air gas just exchange cylinders and never have to worry about cylinders expiring every 5 years.
