    This movie, Total Recall, Blade Runner, and a number of other brain twisting sci fi movies all started as stories written by Phillip K. Dick. Guy was almost naturally psychedelic in how he saw the world. Of course all the drugs he took just enhanced that. Regardless, the man was a genius writer ... weird as hell, but a genius.

  • @gooseman_x
    @gooseman_x 4 года назад +20

    Useless trivia: this movie was originally planned to be a sequel to “Total Recall (1990)”. When the plans fell through, the setting was changed from Mars to Earth, and the mutants of Mars became the Precogs.

    I had a construction class during high schools, and on the days we had a substitute, the teacher would tell the sub to put on a movie. Every single time, the movie was either Rush Hour 2 or Minority Report. Good memories... :)

Most of them will have at least something to offer you, even if you’re not immediately in love with them.

    I always tear up at the scene where John reads the Miranda rights, almost as much as him. He's got the man who (he thinks) murdered his child in front of him, and he could easily gain personal satisfaction from killing him. But rather than do it and ruin his life by murdering an unarmed suspect, he chooses to be a cop and arrest him. And it's clearly tearing him up inside to do "the right thing."

  • @TenTonNuke

    13:45 It sounds smart, but really isn't. We once had a guy in Iraq try to sneak up on our tank by packing his body in ice. Except the air around you isn't the temperature of ice. So you end up blue and human shaped on thermal sights.

    • @johnquinn7794
      @johnquinn7794 2 года назад

      But here the water would be analogous to the air. And the water would be the same temp so thermally it should look like a tub of blue, not human shaped blue.

    The original short story this movie is based on is VERY short. This movie upped the game.
    The computer system that ran in finger and arm gestures was based on real tech (not the pre-cog stuff; just the interface). You can watch the creator talk about it on a TED talk.

    This has been one of my favourite sci-fi movies since I saw it in theatres. A small detail I really like is how Colin Farrell’s character is in like the earliest possible stage of growing a goatee, like he just skipped that part of his face when he was shaving yesterday or maybe the day before-and then he dies before he can finish growing it in. It sounds silly now that I’m explaining it, hahaha, but it’s always made his death a little extra tragic to me!

    This movie, in 2002, predicted this:
    - Targeted advertising
    - Face ID
    - Smartwatches
    - Gesture interface (Google has this, it's called Soli)
    . Multi-touch screens
    - Translucent screens (we have this already, even though it's not seen mass adoption)
    - Electric / self-driving cars
    - Smart homes that turn lights on/off with voice commands
    All of the tech already exists, some with mass adoption, and some in early stages.
    The movie is supposed to be in the 2050s. We're 30 years ahead of schedule.
    The only thing that's not gonna happen is the actual precogs because that's some supernatural shit, and not actual technology that's possible int he future.

    If you liked this movie, then you should checkout 'I, Robot' with Will Smith. Anyway, this movie (and Total Recall) are both based on scifi books written by Philip K. Dick, another good book of his which got made into a great movie is the Adjustment Bureau. I, Robot however was based on a book by another great scifi author Isaac Asimov, who also has had many of his books made into movies, too many to name.

    One thing that they never get into - because it's assumed that his son was kidnapped by some psycho & then killed somewhere "offscreen" - my theory is that Lamar Burgess, the Director, "arranged" to have him "kidnapped" & adopted out thru the child welfare system, in order to use John Anderton to install & promote the Precrime division/system. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, as an Adoptee, but it makes more sense to me considering how the "system" gets manipulated by Lamar Burgess, first for the so called "Echo", in the murder of Anne Lively, & second is not subject to the spiders, the eye detection, or anything that would reveal or expose his murder of Danny Witwer, before or after it happens. As the Director he has the power to override things, & escape Detection, & we see that he's not above doing whatever it takes to get what he wants. So I see two possible scenarios. Him sending a known convict of crimes against children to victimize Sean, John's son, or just having him grabbed at the pool by someone, & like I said Adopted out to strangers, never to be seen or heard from again as Sean Anderton. The second being even more tragic in some ways, because in that scenario, they'd think he's dead based on statistics of child abductions, when he's actually out there somewhere unbeknownst to them. Of course this is probably based on a book - & if so, I haven't read the book to know what it might or might not explain, that the movie doesn't....
