Tom Cruise’s story arc on struggling with loss was brilliant.
The pre-cogs were named after mystery writers. Dashiell Hammett, creator of Sherlock Holmes stories Arthur C Doyle and the Queen of Crime, Agatha Christie.
Love how they used Schubert’s music when Tom was browsing the images early in the movie.

It took me watching it again. To realise that when Agatha was talking about their son growing up and going to college and having so much love in their house.
She wasn't talking about what their lost son would've done had he not been taken.
She was talking about what their lives would be like with their new son. Who is yet to be born.. So happy endings all round.

  • @itt23r

The theme of this movie is cited a lot today, as it seems that a lot of government legislatures in our so-called free world have been flirting with the idea of restricting protests by opposition parties for their potential for "future crime". So it is important, I think, that everyone see this movie to be aware of the danger.
As to Tom Cruise movies, if you want to see more, I think his best work is found in his latest films, specifically, "The War of the Worlds", "The Edge of Tomorrow", "The Last Samarai" and one that may have a personal interest to you, the facinating WWII biopic, "Valkyrie".

😎👍 This was the first of two times that Spielberg worked with Tom Cruise, the other being "War Of The Worlds" (2005). Like "Blade Runner" and "Total Recall," this was based on a novel by Philip K. Dick. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep = Blade Runner

    Second Variety = Screamers
    Imposter = Imposter
    Minority Report = Minority Report
Screamers & Imposter have their faults, and are both low budget but I still enjoyed them. I’d highly recommend reading the short stories too, to see the changes made to the films. And then read “Oh, To be a Blobbel” which is great!

In my top 5 Spielberg films. It was good to see you doing a reaction to it. Got me geared up. And I think your kitty might be a pre-cog.

Other Tom Cruise movies to add to list:
    Legend
    Rain Man
    Interview with the Vampire
    Jerry Maguire
    Vanilla Sky
    Eyes Wide Shut
    Edge of Tomorrow

I agree with Rain Man, Jerry Maguire, and maybe Edge of Tomorrow (sometimes rebranded as "Live. Die. Repeat."), and I would add A Few Good Men and The Firm to that list, but I can't recommend the others.

Sci Fi movies based on Philip K Dick's works are some of the best of the bunch (check the adaptions section of his wikipedia page and it'll blow your mind) - which is good because he was a prolific writer, there's so much untapped potential out there.

Have you seen Steven Spielberg's AI (2001)? It's was made a year before this one and is very under-rated - I think you will love it.

Face recognition is already working in many places, but most people don't know it. In fact, some of the technological elements seen in the movie either already exist or are being developed

Since it just came up in another reaction: If you have not seen The Island, I recommend that. It has a similar sci-fi action vibe. Don't wanna say much else about the plot.

Hey Marijke, This vision of the future is so next level in this movie. From self-driving cars that use the sides of building to double as roadways. To interface teach that can scan your mind fro their thoughts and on the flip side implant new ones to create fantasies. Flying police cars, roll up digital newspapers. Near-instant body part replacements, artificial body parts. And the list goes on and on. THe only one I would leave off the list is the constant eye scans. But our cell phones can do that trick to have us tracked, so were screwed either way.

This is another movie based on writings from my favorite author who also wrote the stories behind Blade Runner, Total Recall, Adjustment Bureau, and my personal favorite; A Scanner Darkly. It stars Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder, Robert Downey Jr, and Woody Harrelson. I'm so glad you enjoyed this movie and you should definitely add A Scanner Darkly to a poll.

For me, if we still accept that the precogs are to be used, there is a solution which is much better than abandoning the problem: Just use it to stop murders before they happen. You do not have the proof to say that those people will be murderers, but I see very reasonable that, for example, you enter in the house of that man who was cheated, you take him away and then release him. Maybe give protection to the possible victims, put a localizer on him for a couple of months or something like that.
Just like you put people in custody for a few hours even if they ended up not commiting a crime, but you have the suspicion that it was about to happen.
I think that the technology would justify it. And then the end result would be the same: No murders. Because all the murders are prevented (even if the possible murderers are not convicted).

If you read the original short story by Philip K Dick you get to see the flip side of this narrative. It's cool to have the whole coin...

I couldn’t image losing a child the way John did. I have had a few of those brief few seconds of terror where I have lost track of my 6 year daughter in public. As an attentive parent, my daughter rarely leaves my sight when we are out, especially if we in the checkout near the front doors of a store. She doesn’t play outside unless my wife or I are outside as well. I can’t be one of those parents that lets my child (at this age anyway) roam the neighborhood and not know where they are.
