Tom Cruise’s story arc on struggling with loss was brilliant. The pre-cogs were named after mystery writers. Dashiell Hammett, creator of Sherlock Holmes stories Arthur C Doyle and the Queen of Crime, Agatha Christie. Love how they used Schubert’s music when Tom was browsing the images early in the movie.
It took me watching it again. To realise that when Agatha was talking about their son growing up and going to college and having so much love in their house. She wasn't talking about what their lost son would've done had he not been taken. She was talking about what their lives would be like with their new son. Who is yet to be born.. So happy endings all round.
This is based on the book by Philip K. Dick. He wrote Blade Runner, Total Recall, Man In The High Castle, A Scanner Darkly..... a brilliant yet highly paranoid man.
This movie is so underrated. When people talk about Tom Cruise or Spielberg movies, no one ever mentions Minority Report, but I think it's up there with their best.
12 Monkeys and Minority Report were super massive sci-fi movies at the time, but both have sadly been long forgotten more and more so with every year, sighs
Yes, a true genius of science fiction. So many great Phillip K Dick stories and ideas have been made into great movies - Blade Runner, A Scanner Darkly, Total Recall, The Adjustment Bureau, the list goes on.
I would also add that his writing style is extremely unique and entertaining. Its not just his ideas, its how he presents them. Also a plus that everything he writes isn't a 5000 page tome.
Marijke, Check out GAttaca, Edge of Tomorrow, Blade Runner, Blade Runner 2049, Arrival, Terminator 1&2, Inception. So many great SciFi flicks to choose from
What's really freaky is that 17 years later, Agatha (or someone looking very much like her) would again emerge, on _The Walking Dead_ -- as Alpha, the bald-headed leader of the Whisperers! You really gotta love the great Samantha Morton!!
You are not wrong. Tom Cruise's runs are famous bceause they are very good. In fact, in the Mission Impossible movies, many scenes of running were added or extended because the protagonist is Tom Cruise.
Great reaction! Minority Report is one of the greatest Sci-fi films in the history of Hollywood. Though it was a box office success, this film doesn't get the recognition that it deserves.
The theme of this movie is cited a lot today, as it seems that a lot of government legislatures in our so-called free world have been flirting with the idea of restricting protests by opposition parties for their potential for "future crime". So it is important, I think, that everyone see this movie to be aware of the danger. As to Tom Cruise movies, if you want to see more, I think his best work is found in his latest films, specifically, "The War of the Worlds", "The Edge of Tomorrow", "The Last Samarai" and one that may have a personal interest to you, the facinating WWII biopic, "Valkyrie".
Not sure if you mention this because I haven’t finished yet but the woman who plays Agatha here also plays Alpha in The Walking Dead. Samantha Morton. I never noticed that when I saw Walking Dead

😎👍 This was the first of two times that Spielberg worked with Tom Cruise, the other being "War Of The Worlds" (2005). Like "Blade Runner" and "Total Recall," this was based on a novel by Philip K. Hey Marijke, This vision of the future is so next level in this movie. From self-driving cars that use the sides of building to double as roadways. To interface teach that can scan your mind fro their thoughts and on the flip side implant new ones to create fantasies. Flying police cars, roll up digital newspapers. Near-instant body part replacements, artificial body parts. And the list goes on and on. THe only one I would leave off the list is the constant eye scans. But our cell phones can do that trick to have us tracked, so were screwed either way.

For me, if we still accept that the precogs are to be used, there is a solution which is much better than abandoning the problem: Just use it to stop murders before they happen. You do not have the proof to say that those people will be murderers, but I see very reasonable that, for example, you enter in the house of that man who was cheated, you take him away and then release him. Maybe give protection to the possible victims, put a localizer on him for a couple of months or something like that. Just like you put people in custody for a few hours even if they ended up not commiting a crime, but you have the suspicion that it was about to happen. I think that the technology would justify it. And then the end result would be the same: No murders. Because all the murders are prevented (even if the possible murderers are not convicted).
I couldn’t image losing a child the way John did. I have had a few of those brief few seconds of terror where I have lost track of my 6 year daughter in public. As an attentive parent, my daughter rarely leaves my sight when we are out, especially if we in the checkout near the front doors of a store. She doesn’t play outside unless my wife or I are outside as well. I can’t be one of those parents that lets my child (at this age anyway) roam the neighborhood and not know where they are.

This is another movie based on writings from my favorite author who also wrote the stories behind Blade Runner, Total Recall, Adjustment Bureau, and my personal favorite; A Scanner Darkly. It stars Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder, Robert Downey Jr, and Woody Harrelson. I'm so glad you enjoyed this movie and you should definitely add A Scanner Darkly to a poll.
I considered leaving a comment and said to myself, "Self, why not." "We love you, oh Knight who says 'Nee.'"
"I'm so afraid of heights"
Oh Mary... What in this world aren't you afraid of, right?
You what movie I haven't seen in a while? Falling Down (1993) that would be an interesting reaction!
If you read the original short story by Philip K Dick you get to see the flip side of this narrative. It's cool to have the whole coin...
Such a great movie and reaction.
Finally someone reacting to this movie. One of Cruise's best
And Spielberg's.
_Blade Runner, _Total Recall_, _Minority Report_... Just 3 of the movies adapted from Philip K. Dick stories or short stories!
Let's not forget. I Robot, Farenheight 451 (not that great movies but a great read)
Those are actually Isaac Asimov and Ray Bradbury, but yes also excellent reads!
