I literally spent an hour and a half one day trying to get my file to open only to finally figure out that it wasn't in embroidery mode!! Now it's always the first thing I check. So many things to learn! But oh so fun!
I just bought the MC9850 last week and I couldn't get my files to show up on my machine. After watching your video I was able to solve the problem. Just needed to format the USB Stick. Didn't know that this needed to be done. Thanks for the help. I've watched most of your video's and truly enjoy them, plan on watching the rest, :) Thanks
Thank you! This video was immensely useful! I just bought this machine and am very excited to use it. This info should be in the manual. I couldn't find anything about using the usb stick. Thanks to your video I learned all I had to do was format it. Thanks again!
Thanks for publishing your research on how to get files to appear on the MC 9850. Maybe Janome could provide this service to its customers or pay you for the info. The MC 9850 is a great machine, but there is very little info on how to get the best out of the machine. Thanks again
So true. I suspect Janome depends on the dealers to provide the education when they sell the machine. There are educators for the embroidery software. The rest of us try to help each other.
THANK YOU! I have been embroidering on Brother machines for years and got this machine at a great deal and was really excited then the manual with it let me down. You filled in what they left out!! I can’t thank you enough!
I use a free open source software called Inkscape with a plug in called Inkstitch to digitize. However, there are several free apps like Stitch Buddy you can use to open the file and check the size, but you have to pay to edit 😏.
I am so frustrated with this issue. I have tried everything and I still cannot get my machine to see files on my drive. Thank you for your video. 16 MB? is that correct? Does anything that small exist?
16 mb was the size I found on old documents. But I have successfully used 32GB usb stick. I just don’t store all my files on the usb. I merely use it as a way to transfer the design to the machine. If you have tried opening it in software to check the size fits in the hoop everything else you might need to call Janome support.
The machine has some built in embroidery designs that do not require additional software. If you want to design and digitize your own embroidery you will need software. It is also an option to purchase embroidery files online and transfer them to the machine with a USB flash drive stick.
It is a common problem. There are too many variables that can cause it. I’m happy to help if I can. My email is shelley@frecklefacedfabrichead.com if you want to send me your file. I can make sure it is okay
I use one that is 32gb all the time. I think the key is how much data is on the stick because the machine only has so much memory to open it. That’s why I don’t store embroidery files on the stick. I only use it to transfer a few at a time.
The most common reason for this to happen is the machine is not in embroidery mode or the design is too big. Good luck. If you want me to test out the file you can email it to me. Shelley@frecklefacefabrichead.com.
Sometimes when I have trouble with volume I use the CC option for subtitles. I have been trying to speak louder for my newer videos. Maybe I should remake this video.
I know this video/series is some years old but I need you to know how drastically you are still helping people!!! I was so lost before your videos
Thank you so much for the encouragement. It is good motivation to produce some new content. I'm always open to suggestions.

So many variables to check. I hope this helped.
I absolutely love your channel. It is so frustrating having such a great machine but there is so little about it out there.
Glad you enjoy it!

Thank you so much for this video showing what to do when you cannot see any files on the usb stick.
Much appreciated. Have a good day.😀
I hope you were able to figure out the problem. Happy to help.
I'm so happy I found your channel. Just received my machine and not even Janome has these videos for help. Thank you!
Makes my heart happy to help another creator.

do i need to buy a special software to be able to do embroidery ?

To complicated for a non techie….
There is a learning curve to transfer designs. There are so many reasons why it doesn't work. I hope you were able to figure it out.
