    I like the message of both episodes, but I found episode one to be better, I feel like they didn’t have a proper conclusion to episode two, no big change happened, there was a 15 second argument between Kyle and the prince. Jared I appreciate you so much. As someone who is generally liberal with a lot of leftist friends, I’ve been put off with just how poorly people can handle information they give and are given. The lines between appreciation and appropriation are blurred like hell, and anyone who’s ever felt a slight bit of social anxiety or discomfort feels fully justified in not only playing the victim, but blowing their experience up to believe its a national issue that needs correcting. A lot of people don’t realize they’re practically functioning at a child’s level, unable to distinguish their own world views from the reality that we live in a massive world full of complexities they could never understand; they’re more concerned about pointing fingers and blaming the nearest person who disagrees with them for all their life’s problems.

    • @bryanfine986
      @bryanfine986 Год назад +16

      You are correct, it is the mindset of a child. This is a good summary of why, as I grew older, I moved away from the left and now stand center aisle as much as possible. It's better to embrace reason, rational and respectful debate, and the understanding that personal agency and accountability will get you much further in life than playing the perpetual victim. Sadly, the new left seems to get offended by these very concepts. They reduce every argument to emotional and moral stakes, as opposed to the sort of epistemological perspective that people like Jared provide (thank you Jared, I've followed you since the early Wisecrack days).

    • @bryanfine986
      @bryanfine986 Год назад +6

      Left-wing politics describes the range of political ideologies that support and seek to achieve social equality and egalitarianism, often in opposition to social hierarchy.[1][2][3][4] Left-wing politics typically involve a concern for those in society whom its adherents perceive as disadvantaged relative to others as well as a belief that there are unjustified inequalities that need to be reduced or abolished.[1] Left-wing politics are associated with popular or state control of major political and economic institutions.[5] According to emeritus professor of economics Barry Clark, supporters of left-wing politics "claim that human development flourishes when individuals engage in cooperative, mutually respectful relations that can thrive only when excessive differences in status, power, and wealth are eliminated."[6] - from Wikipedia

    • @connorscanlan2167
      @connorscanlan2167 Год назад +21

      @Bryan Fine I feel like Centrism is kind of a cop-out, generally, and that identifying what you've described exclusively with "the Left" suggests you don't have a lot of personal experience with Rightists. I say so because blaming others for their problems and disengaging from things that are challenging are things that all kinds of people do, and no one "side" has a claim to the preponderance of this. I can't tell you how many "Centrists" I've met who collapse into defending the status quo or shutting down when met with criticism or information that runs up against what they've identified with, exactly as many times as I've seen Leftists and Rightists do the same. The expressions they use may be different--you'll see Rightists default to talk about nation or manhood, where Leftists will usually fall back on rhetoric about self-care or bigotry--but to identify this universal human problem, the utter unwillingness to be wrong, with one "side" of anything is missing the forest for the trees. It's because we identify with the things we accept, that is, we make what we've chosen to believe is true a part of our identities, and when that gets challenged, the impulse is to find whatever words make that challenge go away, not to seriously consider it.

    I read Stan's jealousy as being what it is on the surface; a little boy jealous that his best friend is hanging out with somebody else but not wanting to make a scene and keeping it inside. As we saw in Assburgers and Post-Covid, one of Stan's flaws is that he struggles with emotional honesty and tends to withdraw from or lash out at Kyle when there's an issue between them. I'm glad they're getting back to character-driven stories rather than JUST having them stand-in for headlines or positions.
    However, Stan's sadness does serve Cartman and Cupid Ye as their "good intention as an excuse to do something bigoted". So it works in the metaphor as that.

    • @spadinnerxylaphone2622
      @spadinnerxylaphone2622 Год назад +2

      Also it showed that sometimes, because of how the world is, even if our issue isn't based in prejudices or racial identity, that can come into play. Stan's not thinking about Kyle being Jewish or Tolkien being Black, but his jealousy leads to Cartman targeting those identities.

As a self-identified classical liberal (with not-self-diagnosed high functioning autism) who thinks that Musk had good ideas at one point but then got a bit too rich for his own good, and also thinks that South Park's classical liberal politics and so-called "both-sides-ism" make it a better and more necessary show in this era, not a worse one, I think that not mocking Musk is the right decision, in part because there's plenty of stuff out there making fun of him already.

    Happy to hear your thoughts, as always. I'm far from a royalist, but I don't think Harry even nearly fits the definition of a narcissist.
    When all I heard were headlines, I had the exact same impression as South Park. After seeing his interview with Stephen Colbert, my opinion started to soften. My wife began reading his book and relaying it to me. I can certainly relate to some of his family dynamics and mental health issues. I can concede that Meghan's public behavior can come across as antisocial and fake, which makes her an easy villain. I also know it would be bad faith to accept my impression of her public personality as fact. At the very least, like most things, it's complicated.
    I had to suspend my understanding of the situation and laughed, but I don't think there's much of a deeper truth here.

    Southpark was illuminating. I do take issue with you saying India was poor because of his papa. India is very rich, but corrupt. Blaming people for what happened when they weren't around is not a sound argument. We could all look back at our ancestors and probably not be very proud!

    • @jaredsmith112
      @jaredsmith112 Год назад

      I agree, it’s a lazy argument, as other former colonies in Asia like Singapore and Hong Kong are extremely rich

    South Park might be the best terapy for Harry, as we know none of the past years of terapy help in any way this man child filled w/ rage, jealousy , bitterness etc. It might be the first time someone shows him how ridiculously ingrate he is toward the fact he was born in a very priviledge environment. I hope those episodes will give a shot of clarity on his life & family. Now about his wife I don´t expect much as she is shallow, empty & greedy inside and has no real empathy, grace & class.Past time to move on Harry, Wake up.Rewrite the story!!!!.

    I'm Canadian and really do not understand the obsession with Harry and Meghan. As for the message of the episode, I find the best way to build a brand is to be as honest as possible, be yourself, so you are always authentic and will attract the right people.

    • @Flipcrash
      @Flipcrash Год назад +2

      Really no one cares about the couple. Megan like in the episode is controlling what ever controversy she could spring up. I feel bad for Harry as he just picked the wrong women and clearly isn't with the PR stunts

    Can all in left media please start educating everyone about both the: (1) difference between right-authoritarian vs. right-libertarian; & (2) difference between left-authoritarian vs left-libertarian? It’s long overdue. People aren’t cattle or sheep: They will understand if we educate them.
    Though we need to educate (& learn) about all the nuance.

      For example:
      Two different left YTers, Step Back & Anark, who both recently released videos on this topic, made horribly inaccurate videos on the subject. Just atrocious: They both expressed basically no interest in logic or empirical truth. We are in a deplorable state for left YT…
