      @biggs949597 s i disagree m8-I've seen many benches well over 500 lbs. raw by manymany Westside guys-when were you there and who did you train with that day?
      I watched Chuck do 800+lbs. gm's with zero assistance equip.Louie himself has won numerous world titles in numerous weight classes.On speed bench days i finished w/405 for speed reps-so the info you have is flawed,i personally saw Jerry Obranovich bench 585 for 3 reps with no equiptment. Donnie Damron in 1997(i site this b/c i was the one spotting him.) did 505 raw for easy reps-so there are many confirmed lifts from many different Westside athletes to prove you're statements wrong.And most times we use bands chains-it makes the lift more difficult-so i think part of your misconception is in not understanding the training techniques.I'd be more than happy to discuss them in more detail with you,and give you more of a rounded understanding of what the main idead of the Louie Simmons training style does over the long haul.As far as Chuck struggling w/405 bench,he trained so hard on his squat and dead that it probably beat the crap outta his shoulders and elbows-and the biceptal tendonitis is horrible from that,we've all been there.And i'm sure living in Columbus you could stop down and talk to Mr.Simmons directly to get some perspective on the actual numbers you've mentioned.He'd have a much better comprehensive list than i would.

    • @DARK24-7
      @DARK24-7 4 года назад

      @biggs949597 s Yes i can say i saw these lifts with my own eyes-i trained with Donnie Damron and Jerry Obranovich on multiple occasions(from 1997-2006)-and another guy i failed to mention was Kenney Patterson benched well over 500 raw maybe even 600(i did not see this with my own eyes.But his lifts are well chronicled.) JM Blakely was another guy i'm sure benched well over 500 raw.And another personal friend of mine Rajeev Deb as of 2005 benched 495 for 5 clean reps at my home gym.And no i do not know Jimmy Ritchey-he may have trained there after the time i spent at Westside,i only trained there occasionally when i was able to get to Columbus(side note i love Columbus nice town!)But all this being said-i never fealt like the main focus overall was just a big bench(at Westside that is.)I was never a big bencher most my limited success came via squat and dead.And many the guys that had subpar benches for the expectations of Westside/Louie were probably killing their squat and dead training and therefore beating their arms up so bad that it reflected in the bench performance.

      less load at the bottom and more load at the top allowing you to overload the movement, it emphasizes the lock-out and mimics equipped benching too

      Bands at the top make it heavier at lockout. They can add more weight than usual to target that part of the bench among other things.

    • @josephmoore977
      @josephmoore977 4 года назад

      @@TheStrengthArchives Wouldn't it be the opposite? The bands are pulling from the top so the lockout would then become easier as opposed to bands at the bottom making the lockout more difficult.

    • @josephmoore977
      @josephmoore977 4 года назад +6

      @Sam Ahhhh I see now. Bands from the bottom would then help with the sticking points earlier in the movement but zero band tension in the beginning. Bands from the top would be pulling the weight making the lift easier until the tension began to ease. This is strictly increasing the lockout for powerlifting.

    • @theajayy2258

      To make the lockout of the lift harder so they work their triceps more

      @deadcakesandpanlifts2019 3 года назад

      @@theajayy2258 to make most of the lift easier, not harder. Its a reverse band. If they wanted to make it harder they wouldve done normal bands, not reverse.

    • @theajayy2258
      @theajayy2258 3 года назад +2

      @@deadcakesandpanlifts2019 hey man try using your brain, bench with reverse bands and normal bands are both easier at the bottom, (normal bands no tension at bottom reverse most tension) therefore the lockout will be the hardest part of the lift. If you don't understand this you probably have a roomtemperature iq

    • @albietross1288
      @albietross1288 3 года назад +3

      Broly good work on 1000lb total at 16, stick with it! This is a max effort session, and they are using close grip reverse bands as a pressing variation. The reverse bands take weight off the bar as the bar is lowered and they stretch, and then the weight is added back as you press back up. This aligns with the strength force curve, making the triceps work harder to lock out, alleviating some of the stress at the bottom. Keep in mind this is conjugate training, meaning in part that they are rotating to a new max effort excercise weekly, so they would be using a lot of different types of variation. Also, at this time in powerlifting, virtually everyone used bench shirts, and this variation closely mimics how a shirt would behave. I believe there is still a lot of value in this variation for the raw lifter, but I am sure I would t need to look far to get an argument on that. If you are unfamiliar with conjugate training, elitefts has a lot of info that you can search in their archives.
