    Late posting, but I just wanted to say that after playing both LoD & DUN extensively over the last couple years, I have to say I like DUN more. The main reason is that I feel that, even though DUN is a bit more complex, I think its rules flow a lot better. Every time I go through a dungeon in DUN, I have a good experience, I feel engaged. LoD dungeons start to really drag after a while.
    DUN has more rules, but the rules are better written and more fleshed out. They feel better to me.

    • @HungryGamerReviews
      @HungryGamerReviews  7 месяцев назад +4

      Fair!
      This one took a long time for me to finally choose which I held onto. I held onto DUN at the end of the day cause I liked the combat more. But if I didn't live in California I'd have kept both

    • @fightingfortruth9806
      @fightingfortruth9806 7 месяцев назад +2

      Yes. I completely agree. Combat flows better in DUN. Oftentimes I will just abandon a fight in Dungeoneers because it becomes too frustrating. Positioning is critical otherwise it becomes a miss-fest. I don't like that level of stress in a dungeon crawler.

    Hello, William and fellow Hungry Gamers, and good evening. :) This is Rodger, the creator of the Avalon Adventure board game and Dungeon Crusade Book I: Genesis of Evil, and I hope everyone is doing great.
    Thank you for doing this video, William. I have a copy of League of Dungeoneers that Michael sent me, and it's still in the shipping box. Within the next few days, I'm going to be doing a nice unboxing video of it.
    Michael deserves so much credit, he truly knocked the ball out of the park with the game, and I know tons of people are enjoying it. Massive kudos to you, Michael!
    But both designers of these games, I give a ton of credit. They did an outstanding job, was super passionate about them, and it shows. I would love to try Dungeon Universalis, but I'm very eager to get started playing League of Dungeoneers.
    Lastly, you have that right, William. I'm going to be sending you a Crusader of the Realm edition of Dungeon Crusade. As soon as we receive our shipment, I'll get a hold of you and forward you a copy. I thank you in advance for taking a look at it and showing it on your channel.
    Lastly, if anyone is interested in learning more about Dungeon Crusade, I have a few videos below.
    The one video does a great job of getting you acclimated to the Avalon Adventure board game and Dungeon Crusade. While the game is very girthy, it has quite easy game mechanics. I designed the game from the ground up for the soloist gamer, but it can be played co-op.
    Also, we are in the final days of the review of the production copies of the game. Mass production will be happening within the next few weeks, and the game will be shipping out over the summer. There is an active pledge manager where you can still pre-order a copy of Dungeon Crusade and the Avalon Adventure board game.
    And William was right. There is a brand new revised rulebook that has been getting excellent reviews, a revised combat system (the classic system is still in there,) a scalable difficulty reference card, the new Solo Crusader Mode, the new Mercenary Camp for the village board, quicker setup, quicker game time and a host of other tweaks and balances.
    I'm a super passionate creator; I/we listened to the fans and addressed any issues they had. The game has been perfected and honed.
    If anyone has any questions, just let me know, and I'll be more than happy to help you out.
    Above all, I hope everyone has a great evening; stay safe, happy gaming, and I will talk to you soon; keep up the great work, William!... Rodger :)

      I received an email from you and did respond with this. I wanted to post this here so you have all the information.
      First of all, I am sincerely grateful for your time and interest in the Avalon Adventure board game and Dungeon Crusade. And yes, there is an active pledge manager. It will be closing within the next few weeks as we hit mass production. We're finishing up the review of the production copies of the game. The game will be shipped out in the next few months, so there won't be that long of a wait.

    Such a needed video! If I could figure out a way to package the best of both of these games together I think you'd have a dungeon crawler that cannot be beat. League of Dungeoneers simulates the dungeon crawling experience better than any other game I've ever played solo. DUN's character creation and customization is top notch. League's problem is that the world really does feel empty when compared to DUN, and you're often just rolling 4 dice to see if you roll a random encounter then ticking off rations. Where as DUN feels like you're actually traveling.
    DUN's dungeon crawling is just so clearly meant for a 1 v. many system though. The ADP and monster AI is just bad and overly complicated and makes you spend most of your time just playing the monsters in the way that seems to make the most sense. I hate it. I may try to take the LoD dungeon system and implement it in a DUN campaign.

    One thing that many mistake about RPGs is that more rules means you can do more things...when the opposite is true. Obviously a board game needs gaurdrails, but games like these are essentially RPG's. There is a reason B/X is the most cloned system...it's got a skeleton ruleset that allows you to do anything without there necessarily being a specific rule for it.

    Thanks for the comparison. Looks like League of Dungeoneers would fit better for me as I would like a comparatively streamlined dungeon crawler with random dungeon generation for solo play. Although not sure about the lack of art in LoD, I guess the new crowdfunding version will have more art as well as rulebook revision. So I will be looking forward to that.

    Hi. Thank you so much for this video. I am really in a bit of a pickle because I would love to buy LoD now that is on second reprint on Gamefound (late pledge) but I am not really convinced that much. It has certainly more game content of other games that I own like Gloomhaven, Dungeon Saga and Sword and Sorcery but......... I have watched different videos and I am really not convinced of the combat system. Too many rolls: I like the idea of how determining the initiative although I find it too random. Agility or some other type of skill should have some impact on that and instead a zombie has the same initiative of a rat. Also you have to roll to determine which one of your heroes the monster will hit: why there is no AI for the monster cards? Also, you have to roll to establish whether you hit or not and then roll for the damage and if you are a hero roll to check Where you have been hit. I watched a video of 4 heroes fighting 8 rats, a zombie and a big rat.... it took 1 hour and 30 minutes just for that combat. The rest of the game (quests, world etc) I really like. What would uou recommend? (DU is not available anymore)

    • @HungryGamerReviews
      @HungryGamerReviews  Год назад +2

      There is also the new version of dungeon crusade that is delivering soon and you can prob snag a copy. I haven't played it yet but it is also a sandbox vibe.
      Lots of really good lighter crawlers out there. Some without dice almost completely
