Thank you for finding this. I've really wondered what song bill was going to sing.

The kind of talent these men had makes me cry because I don't think we'll ever see it again. They were both so dynamic and so ahead of their time in skill but I'm happy that it's all preserved for the younger generations like yours. This was a work of art and I thank you for reacting to this song by this amazing singer.

Talent is timeless. They are both supreme talents.

I loved this so much! Thank you, Valencia! You’re right about hearing Bill perform live. I heard him in October! He’s 83 now, and really knows how to put on a show. He sings with his new partner, Bucky Heard, and his daughter McKenna, but what really blew us away was a blues song he wrote and sang solo, This Will Be the Last Time (I Sing the Blues). Just incredible, and a true legend. His voice isn’t as smooth as it was, but it’s more soulful, and his phrasing is exemplary. We gave a standing ovation. I’ll never forget it. Do look into his solo work over the years- Brown Eyed Woman, I’m No Angel, For You, Freedom and Fear, Don’t You Love Me Anymore, and anything from his last 2 albums- Your Heart to Mine and Damn Near Righteous. Here’s Bill singing Sam Cooke’s A Change is Gonna Come, 2004 - ruclips.net/video/eH_FNtcngZU/видео.htmlfeature=shared. His voice has been a gift to all of us. Here’s an earlier performance of This Will Be the Last Time with a great guitarist-ruclips.net/video/295lKluDSt0/видео.htmlfeature=shared

Bill Medley is still performing. The Righteous Brothers are on a farewell tour through 2025. Sadly, Bobby Hatfield passed away in 2003. Buckey Heard is the other half of the reformed duo.

The song is from the Broadway musical "Showboat." It has has been made into a film, twice. Here is Paul Robeson singing it in the first (and I think the best) film adaptation from 1936 ruclips.net/video/df4VdyGIqJ8/видео.html

People have asked Geoff Castellucci to cover this song but he said he can't because of PC because this song is from Porgy and Bess a stage show with a all black cast and it would upset some people for a white guy to sing it

It’s actually from Show Boat. The great Paul Robeson created a sensation on Broadway when he sang this song. He’s in the 1930s movie version of the show, with the wonderful Helen Morgan. Worth a watch just to see Robeson. Good music, too.
