Love these downloads of complete games from the 80's! Tim McCormick was better than he was given credit for. I always heard he was a big, white stiff. He was a better center than many in the league today. Just doesn't look as athletic as some today but he had good basketball skills.
Its also easy to forget how incredible a young Charles Barkley was! The guy was a force of nature.

Olajuwon almost averaged 40 pts per game in 88 first round vs Dallas... 35 pts 16 rebs per game in 88 WCR1...

    Wow.
Watching this game, you get to see the lack of talent Olajuwon was playing with after all the Drug suspensions and Sampson injuries, etc.. Some of these guys like Dirk Minnifield, I had completely forgotten about, and that's after watching various Rockets videos the past week.
This is the year/team, Olajuwon averaged almost 40 pts a game in the first round vs Seattle, and in Game 5 put up an historic 49 pts, 25 reb 6 block shots (making big play after big play) and still lost. Ok, I can see why now (despite winning a significant portion of their games wit those guys gone, after the initial shock). LOL
Saying all that: This is one of the few Times (if ever) that I felt Olajuwon wasn't his normal self. Yes, he scored 20+ pts, and had 6 assist, and how many rebs and blocks. Yes, Phila was playing a sort of illegal defense, always having 2 guys around Dream, then 3-4 guys when he touched the ball and made his move. But that's the usual for him at this time. I get it. He usually can play both his man, and the rest of the team without his man Going Off (and/or he not significantly outscoring them). However, here his scrub opposing center scored 18-19 pts, and that's not a good look for the Best Def Player Of All Time (which I agree with), whether he respected or not. Any Who, shit happens.
Barkley, after showing signs early, was kinda quiet himself. However (HOF, All Stars), Andrew Toney and Maurice Cheeks took care of the rest, as they should. Where was Dr. J? Was he retired or injured by then?

Hakeem could have scored a lot more points early on in his career but Bill Fitch did not make him the focal of the offense.

      @Coopydoublelopp
      Who Told You That!?
Hakeem, was always the Focal Point of the offense.
Did you ever watch Houston in the Playoffs, from his first 2-3 seasons?
In this game, Phila had 2-4 guys around Hakeem all the times, and his teammates weren't hitting their shots consistently until the 4th quarter when it was too late.
It wasn't one of his best games IMO, and I've rarely ever seen him play unsatisfying to me, if ever. But hey, this was after all the drug suspensions and Sampson injuries, and they were still doing well at the time without them, so everyone's entitled to a Clunker especially, when you gotta fight through 2-4 defenders every time you touch the ball, in an insignificant home game, you would think you should win, after a current streak).
Now, because Olajuwon played such crazy defense all over the court, he wasn't always going to "Go Off" all the time, when there was no need, cause his first passion was to Protect The Basket, and by extension the entire mid court. LOL
And just like this game, he went through large stretches of his career (87-92) when his teammates weren't knocking down shots when he was 2-4 teamed. After a while that must wear on you. Just look at the talent in this game here. The Rockets also went through 3 coaches, and several wholesale Trades (except Hakeem of course) that added to the confusion and lack of cohesion on the offense. So I guess, Hakeem reserved the herculean efforts for important, big games/match ups, and the Playoffs?
Lastly: This is a Bill Fitch Quote (You may love or hate him more with this, lol) at the last paragraph of this article:
“I coached (Larry) Bird in Boston and Dream in Houston and I’ll tell you this: Give me Dream and Bird and any other three guys who ever picked up a paycheck in the NBA and I’ll play anybody. Anywhere. Anytime.”
      www.chron.com/sports/rockets/article/Coaches-recall-Olajuwon-s-rise-to-stardom-1637210.php
So, that's how STRONGLY he felt about Olajuwon (as most people who coached/played with him; saw him a lot).
      PS: I know I'm 8 years late. 😁LMAO
