    Alright - I'm working on something new. The next one will (probably) still be in the SC side of things. I would like to make something outside of SC, but I definitely feel the love of the SC community more than ever before. I'm aiming for this week, but I like to do this thing where I aim low and swing high. But in reverse, and nothing like that. I'll get something out asap. Whenever that may be.
    But I'M DOIN' IT.

    I am 52 years old. The first game I owned was Pong. I played games through the years watching the computers and systems grow and improve. I now have a library of over 5000 games I have played. Been through so many alphas and betas to games that came and went. I had watched Star Citizen videos over the years but never understood how to get a copy to play. Finally last March, unemployed and locked in, I decided to buy a copy of the game and immediately discovered my computer was about a decade behind. After a few months of saving, staring each day at the purchase of my Cutty Black, I finally got a new PC and no sooner than yanking it out of the box, I had the game installed and walked into my ship. Like you, I fell in love. Everything was so perfect compared to games that came before. Even for an Alpha, I was capable of doing things I wish I could have done for decades. The bugs though frustrating didn't matter because I was immediately back in and playing after every glitch, I never stopped. Got a new job, paid off all my debt. In less than a year I have almost 5000.00 invested. Every ship I own I love. They each fulfill a different passion I have for gameplay. Mining, Cargo, Fighting, and just plain Exploration.......I am truly hooked. I loved your story we have similar paths to this game. Mine was a marriage that ended in a similar fashion. But my kids have accounts, we fly the verse each week. My passion is shared with them. Thank you for an awesome video. And if TSN-DoomerOne ever crosses your path, give a wave.

      I'm 31 now, and the last 9 years have seemingly blown by, but seeing so many people who share this love of SC is just... its both overwhelming and heartwarming. I'm sorry about your marriage, I know, it sucks. In some ways though, the path we had to walk led us to this point - and the people and communities I have encountered a long the way have in many ways been worth the heartbreak. Should I have been given the chance to change the past, I don't know if I would. I'm proud to be part of a community that is so diverse and so passionate. My name in game is WhiskeyAlphaRomeo, though the name is very old and I am considering changing it - but add me to friends, we certainly can do some flying some time. :)

      Man, similar history. Nice to hear your story. I just turned 53 today. After playing so many CR games (he's also newly 53), I knew that Star Citizen would be a hit if he just had the time and money to see the dream through. How amazing that you play with your kids! Love that. Thanks for sharing this. Beautiful video here....no...documentary....and I say this with the highest of compliments.

      About to hit that 3-0 mark, but I feel the same way about this game. Everything from the immersion, to the creativity, to the outstanding community has me hooked like no other. I have to wait for the chance to upgrade my PC to the proper level, as other IRL issues take precedence right now, but I will certainly be joining y’all as soon as I can now that the game seems to be really underway.

      In 2840, Hurston Dynamics forced on its population on planet Hurston more draconian laws that amongst other things banned alcohol to improve productivity in their factories. As a response, the population started an odd but effective protest called the chair standers revolt. People all over Hurston started standing on their chairs to get their booze back. People all around Stanton joined the protest in solidarity and on every planet and station, you could find people standing on their chairs.
      It didn't make sense, yet after only 3 months, the regime relented and the people got their booze back. Even today over a hundred years later, people stand on chairs as a celebration to that one time the people won over oppression.

    It feels weird commenting on my own video, but I wanted to say thank you - all of you. The kind words, encouragement, and enthusiasm for both the video and myself, its heart warming. I've made new acquaintances, joined an Org in SC, and seen so many express such heartfelt compliments. A friend told me I was neither story teller nor narrator, but a transporter, because I transported people out of their seat and into the stars. I love that idea, and I love what it means. I want to take us all to some place amazing and full of awe, but what would people want to see next?
    Truthfully, I was not expecting this to get any more than a few views from friends and a few random onlookers - instead I was spotlighted by incredible people like Morphologis, visited by great content creators, and passed around on everything from Twitter to German websites I had no idea even existed! It's overwhelming, in the best way, but overwhelming nonetheless. Sure - anxiety is definitely licking its jowls staring at me right now, but I'm trying to just process everything and figure things out based on what my heart tells me to do, but you've all carved a spot into that heart - and I want to know where and what we should do together next.
    Again, thank you all, so much. I'll keep trying and improving as best I can, so that I can transport us to new and wonderful places, because nothing makes me happier than knowing my words have touched so many in a positive way.

      Lots of routes you can go from documenting your adventures as your progress in the Verse to scripted shoots and short stories intertwined with SC lore and fiction. Lots of content creators cover the data, up-coming and patch release reviews....the creative story-line driven productions seem to be far and few between. Either way, I look forward to your next.

      The truth is, you deserve it to be mentioned, because you just did a great job. Very well written and especially spoken. You've got a very soothing low voice, that could very well be part of any professional production as some sort of narrator, though we would rather have you produce more quality SC-content ;-).

      Honestly, it just depends on what kind of people watch your Video. As in all Communities, in SC are never-to-satisfy scumbags aswell. That's just how it is. And it's a good sign when peoples overall are nice - means you did something everyone enjoyed. :)

Sounds exactly what the gaming industry needs at this point with over greedy game publishers ruining that chance for many of us gamers. If you don't like the game or want to support it, then don't play it or support it. Don't have to poo poo all over others' experiences if their opinion differs from yours.

    Saw this randomly in the Star Citizen reddit, and came here just to say thank you for the story and narrative you gave. Your introspection, passion and digital travels to find what makes you and others happy through the worlds of Elite Dangerous (I was an explorer there) and Star Citizen. With money being a vehicle but not the destination, you gave some good food for thought on how it is possible for people to pour as much of themselves as they wish into it, and still get more than they give if they keep good awareness, intentions and spirit.
    You also get a commendation for most interesting way to get out of a 350R in a hurry. :D

    One my favorite moments in my gaming life came from entering the security post to clear my crimestat and I can still remember my heart pounding as rushed around the statiton trying to monitor the hacking terminal and cover all the hatches waiting for that long hacking sequence to complete. Before it finished, a bounty hunter showed up. I didn't hear him because there is too much background noise. But I saw him. I had a split second head start as I drew my weapon and fired 3 rounds into his head. This was by far better and more exciting than anything I've ever done in any other game. Unlike COD where death is meaningless, to win a gun battle here, clear your crimestat and fly away free and clear is absolutely thrilling. One hour playing this game can be more fun, more enjoyable than a 1000 hours playing just about anything else. I can't speak for everyone, but that's how I feel about it. I play other games, but eventually I move on. After nearly a decade, I keep coming back to SC. Never quite having my thirst for adventure quenched.
    This video expresses how I feel about SC. I won't bash ED because despite all it's issues it has helped revive the space sim/combat genre. Microsoft and all the big publishers feel stupid after rejecting Chris Robert's vision for PC game. I keep hearing people comparing SC to MS Flight Simulator, but here's the biggest difference: After you have flown around in the flight sim, there's nothing else to do. It reminds me of a trip on a real plane. I look out the window at the beautiful sky, clouds and horizon... And then I close the blind and go back to sleep. But in SC you get to live a virtual life in space and there's no limit to what you can do.

      And that sort of gameplay will become even _more_ exciting when you no longer have “infinite revives.” Death of a Spaceman will make the stakes even higher while adding value to a number of gameplay loops, such as Bounty Hunting (especially taking prisoners alive), Medical, and overall reputation gameplay.

    I had the exact same experience. For me being a early backer, the game is candy land now. I played Elite for 5 yrs waiting on Star Citizen. Great vid!!!

      Yes, and it's unaffected. He's not trying to make it sound deeper or speaking out of his register...or creaking (speaking too low). Really it's a fantastic narration voice, and you can feel the sincerity.

    Not going to lie, I full-out cried. I'm an OG kickstarter backer myself and have gone through a very similar experience as you, though with a different game and not Elite. I think this may be my single favorite video anyone has done about the project tbh. It's such a personal take on the game and one that resonates with so many of us, original and early backers especially that have been here for the whole ride. Genuinely, thank you for making this video.

    Dude I feel you. I was 24 when SC got announced. A girl I wanted to marry just broke up with me, so I was looking forward to Star Citizen. Almost 10 years later, I'm 33 going on 34 and I'm struggling with pandemic caused depression... Being a musician during the end of the world in a 3rd world country isn't really fun. But then I realized that I should check out SC again... So in short, they're funding the game of our depression XD

      This is going to sound weird but, it is a comfort knowing so many have been through similar heartbreak as me. When it happened of course all you see are your peers getting happily married or having kids and you're the odd one out. But it's a comfort knowing I was not the only one who experienced such things, knowing that I'm not alone, and knowing there are those who understand that pain.

    I think “game world size” is overrated. A space is only as good as the unique things you can see or do in that space, and it’s something that Star Citizen delivers even in the Alpha stage, and it’s why I was addicted to the idea of Star Citizen early this summer until I finally pledged about a month ago. I absolutely love the tech CIG is developing and it makes for an incredibly immersive experience

      Yeah, Elite's vast empty galaxy we're not allowed to fill ourselves is pointless. I'd much rather 120 or even 50 systems packed with things to do and evolving with the game.

      As an Elite player, I'd say the dev are just dragging the game by grind which contribute to the play time and all you do is merely UPS truck driver. Combat is ok, personally like the exploration but it's empty. I can't bother travel another thousand light year, I have only wen as far as Cat Paw's Nebula.

      I agree to disagree.. i like to be where i will never meet a fellow pilot - but also like the promise in star citzen - they are different in many ways. I actually think Star Citzen is mork like Ark Survival.. best with friends and a pain soloplaying because of the odds stacked against you. But that just my oppion.

      @@svendtang5432 I haven’t had a bad experience with solo play in Star Citizen, and I’m not quite sure I understand why you would want an MMO that becomes essentially an MSO. Of course, you might have your reasons and I don’t mean any disrespect. I understand wanting solo gameplay but I’m not sure I understand wanting to “never” see another pilot. I guess I probably don’t really understand Elite then

    This is the video I would tell people to watch if they truly want to know why star citizen is such a big deal for true gamers. You're a fantastic story teller, you also have a great sincere sounding voice. it's not easy to make me watch a video like this without skipping a single second, that speaks volumes about your quality and subject engagement.

    I have never in my life wanted to play a game I had, up until this point, no real interest in then I do after watching this video. Dave bud I am so proud to call you my friend.     ''I needed something to look forward to.'' Fuck me dude, that just me hit me so hard. I've never been able to put my feeling into words until I heard what you said.
    I got into Star Citizen during a turbulent time in my life. Bullied at work due to an injury I sustained on the job, I had taken my workplace to the regulatory body for compensation (which I got on both counts) and I really didn't know where to go after that. I lived off that income until it ran out in late 2017/early 2018 and almost defaulted on my house loan looking for a job. My family supported me during this time and I came very close to just giving up and dying. I'm fine now with an excellent job that pays very well for what it is (which has allowed me back the project even further).
    In a way the game saved my life. Because I wanted to see where this other universe went. I didn't like the world in which I lived, but I loved the fictional one CIG had created. Gaming hasn't really improved that much since I got my first PC back around 2007/8. Sure everything looks better, but there's no game that really aimed for the stars (figuratively and literally), everything has been done at a snails pace in terms of improving the size/complexity of the worlds we like to escape to. CIG is holding the ''AAA'' developers over the coals and will hopefully flip the industry on its head.

    At the time I watched the video, I'm already a passionate fan of star citizen, but your story takes everything to a new level!
    I listened to you intently while it ran down my spine.
    You describe Star Citizen exactly as it deserves it.
    Thank you for the absolutely great video and thank you for staying with the game. It has / will pay off.
    You almost exactly tell my story with Star Citizen :).
    But..
    It's not just Chris Roberts dream! It is ours!
    And the Carrack ... is one of the absolutely coolest ships I own.

    Brings me back to my privateer and wing commander days, and the amazing 2 years I had playing Discovery Freelancer mod with friends. The community interactions and emergent game play will make or break it for me.

    Excellent video David, you have captured the feeling that so many of us share. I remember back in 2012, watching the Launch and was thinking No way! At that point I decided to commit to a dream larger than myself. Backing the game with a Connie package and following the path that only dreams take you. The CIG Crew have worked hard and sacrificed so much over the years, Its easy to make mistakes if no one has walk the path before, but we will keep pushing ahead, with the grace of all of your support. I will never give up as long as I have Captains at my side willing to embrace the unknown, move past our doubts and know that Dreams can come true!     Amazing video, I l felt as I had gone on your journey with you. I've "only" had a 10th of the time in Elite, but I kept thinking, I'd rather play Star Citizen. I was going to wait until space legs. I wanted that Armstrong moment. But you remember when Armstrong was instantly teleported outside of the lunar lander onto to the surface of the moon? Yeah, me neither. The more I read on Odyssey the more disappointed I became. Star Citizen spoiled me. Space interiors add gameplay and make the ship feel like home. I opened up the cargo bay doors of a ship and used the tank inside to shoot and destroy an attacking ship. What other game lets me do that?! Add in future gameplay like ship fires, repairing, ship components, disabling gravity, and ships breaking (and getting sucked into space)... then it becomes painfully clear why ship interiors matter.
    I'd tell you go look at the next update we're getting in a couple of weeks with explorable gas giants on "Inside star Citizen: Life among the Clouds", but I fear I'd get you to buy another ship again. Loved the video. I hope you talk about more SC adventures.

    that dev comments about the ship interiors being boring after the first few entries, i can without hesitation confirm i still enjoy walking around my ship after playing for 8 months. the interior spaces and the ability to move about them is what makes SC have such great potential. no Tardis effect, nothing faked. the ships are on the inside what you can see on the outside.

      I'm a SC backer ( couple of ships now ) also a ED player , absolutely captivated by it on launch, but have slowly fallen out of love with it , the straw that broke the camels back for me was that CM's comments about the ship interiors made me so angry and hurt , I just have no passion for it anymore ,to be so out of touch with the community is unforgivable.

    Loved the video. Sums up exactly how I feel. Its like the game that focused on so many details you first think is a waste of development time only to realize it is what is required for the next gen game, a universe sim. I can sometimes just fly to a place, walk out, experience weather, mountaintops and forestwalking. And when I log off, parts of my brain is tricked into thinking I actually went to a snowy mountainhike. Its all about tricking the brain into thinking its all real. Loading screens, separated gameplayfeel like elite is not able to so this, but star citizen is!

    This is all of us.. Star Citizen is a childhood dream of being able to fly interior space ships similar to Star Wars and it still makes me giddy on how gorgeous it is. I love it. No other game is doing what they with details and planets. No LOADING SCREENS which is nice.

    Fantastic video.
    When people like you have such a positive attitude towards what the game is and what it can be, it really reinforces my (albeit already quite strong) confidence in the project.
    I still have to sit there and giggle frantically when me and my brother play the game every now and then, flying out of the atmosphere, just due to the insane feeling that it can induce.
    Star citizen is amazing. I dont care what critisisms people have toward it.. im having a blast already now!

    Yeah I expected odyssey to wake up a lot of crazed haters. SC is fine, making a space sim that in depth is just hard. I hope elite turns out great, but it's just not the same as SC when it comes to the immersion and won't ever be anywhere close. Doesn't mean I hate space truckin' but that's really not what I'm looking for, I want the universe sim with detailed lore and unique gameplay. Elite just can't offer that

    Way to go brother. Your story was spot on for so many of us who are here playing Star Citizen (even though it's in alpha) for the feelings we take away from it. Chris Roberts has a vision and visions take time. I'm still blown away by some of the things they're accomplishing. The kind of simulation development boiled into game-play mechanics that take brilliance, passion and a lot of support. Stay true and keep your nose up on approach!

    Playing Star Citizen for me is like being a little kid again. I am as amazed by the first time i walked out of the apartment complex of loreville when I first started as I was just yesterday when I took the Metroloop in New Babbage, looking at the starlit night sky and seeing Port Tressler hanging over it like a Christmas tree ornament. Everytime I start it up I get excited because new adventures gonna await me in this universe everyday. Real, improvised, unscripted.

    This is a story most people know and a story most have never told to anyone but very few if any… the beauty of the sunset over Hurston. I think everyone remembers their first. This is a beautiful rendition of what makes SC so magical.

    I used to play elite. I loved the scale of it and the flight model is still the best I've seen. I found the gameplay to be shallow, but I still enjoyed flying and mining.
    The cheating I encountered on my first community event was what made me put the game down.
    I've played SC roughly one week a year for the past couple years now increased to once a quarter. It's the most beautiful space sim and, despite all the bugs, makes me feel at peace and connected to the world.

    I got goosebump seeing this video. I'm also as same age as you, only started two months ago, and I have spent over $500 this IAE 2951. SC is a dream, it doesn't matter when it'll be fully finished. The experience I get when I fly ships in the Stanton, different planets, moons, is beyond expression.     It’s funny how I pledged for the same ship as you did in 2014 and totally forgot about the game until January 2021 when I bought a new rig and remember about my long forgot “investment” 😅
    I got into the game during the Xenothreat event and was blown away buy the social experience of the game. Multiple people coming together to fight pirates and haul cargo, communicating and helping each other! I haven’t had this much fun since the early days of World of Warcraft! And of course the game was visually stunning! One of the first screenshots I took was a sunset on Hurston doing a bunker mission…
    Fast forward, I’m $2000 into the game now, plus some additional ships bought on grey market, so they don’t count into my pledge size 😅 no regrets at all!

    I purchased Elite in part due to the vision of Braben. He fit a galaxy, on a floppy disk in the original Elite. True innovation. Space legs sounded awesome. It's so disheartening to hear that they don't think it gives enough gameplay and it's simply too hard. They're not going to even try. I'm reminded of a quote, "We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard"
    Star Citizen is the developer willing to spend time and resources on doing the hard things. That some say is impossible. Ship interiors? Done. More than 32 players? They're even shooting for thousands. That's not just shooting for the moon, but shooting for the stars. Everything challenging may seem impossible until the day it isn't.
    Even now, the now celebrated No Man's Sky only allows for 8 players per instance on console (32 players on PC, but you can only play with 3 friends). E:D isn't much better at 32 players. An entire universe, and only 32 people allowed in? These are single player games with some multi-player attached. These games for got the "Massively Multiplayer" part of the MMO name. They are not MMOs. Star Citizen has 50, but they're pushing to radically change that. Even if it is hard.
    They could have created a million procedurally generated worlds, but they wanted them to feel special. They're working to give us a reason to explore every world, because every world and moon should feel different. Because they know if they're all the same, there's no reason to visit them. Will it work out? I don't know, but I can respect those that try the difficult and fail..... then never bother trying because it's too hard.

      It's so true, and I chose the title "To The Moon" in part because of that quote. Kennedy chose to inspire a nation of people with that because it was an insurmountable task, but if we could do it, then we could do anything together.
      You get it Damon, and its such a huge deal if CIG manages to hit even half of its milestones - Star Citizen represents more than just another game that will come out, it could stoke the fires of creativity and push the limits of what's possible in the genre, maybe even stepping out and creating a new genre all together.
      Star Citizen is a dream, its a lofty one, sure, but I think its one that's closer to coming true than we realize.

      This is the kind of pitch usually followed up by, “if you can only donate 1 dollar to make this dream possible”. Some of us have donated a long time ago and can’t “find the fun” in what’s currently on offer. So while I’m happy for those that can, there’s 9 others who can’t. Spare a thought for those that are still waiting.
      I still think technically speaking they will never be able to create enough multiplayer server capacity to fit everyone who has brought a game package in one server, I am looking forward to seeing what they do come up with.

      @@Eagle6Airsoft Sharing my enthusiasm and enjoyment for the game doesn't equate to a pitch. I'm not selling anyone anything, just sharing my feelings. That's your own pessimism and bitterness talking. That's a "you" problem. The fact that your mind immediately goes there actually says something about you.
      Alphas are not for everyone, and that's okay. Nobody is forcing you to play. If you're not having fun, don't play. Sandbox games by their very nature are about using your imagination and creativity to find your own fun. I've participated in 50 man battles, a 42 player dogfight, opened up a cargo ship door to shoot a tank inside at an attacking enemy, and finds something new to enjoy every quarter. I like games that give me freedom and don't feel the need to hand hold me. If that doesn't appeal to you, that's fine. But it's enough for me to earn a fleet of ships for me, and my friends. Including an 890 Jump.
      The game is in alpha. That means by definition, it's incomplete, missing gameplay and buggy. If that's your biggest issues than don't play an alpha. I did my research and knew what to expect.
      As far as their technical ability, I make games. I know a little on how difficult it is to do wha they're doing. But games like Dual Universe shows that single shard server meshing works. It's not like server meshing has never been done before. Dynamic server meshing requires a host of other core technology to exist before its implementation. So if someone says it can't, I want to know what laws of physics says it's impossible especially when it's worked with other games. I don't mind someone enlightening me but they better know their shit first.
      People can enjoy different things. I find playing with airsoft guns isn't fun. But I don't dismiss the enjoyment of those who do. I'll empathize about you not having fun when you can accept that people are.....without this pessimistic and dismissive "pitch" bullshit.

      @@DamonCzanikIt's not "fine" and ok to be incomplete and something that only a minority can play when it was pitched to a majority. It's a very real issue that most people can't play this game, the people that are ok playing are in the minority of those that have funded the game. It's like 5 people being inside a pub, having a great time and 100 people stuck outside waiting to come in because the pubs not finished being built, it's not about those who are unhappy learning to accept that some are happy and dealing with it, it's a fundamental fact that 95% percent of backers can not or won't play this alpha in its current state up to 9 years after buying the game. These are people who have paid potentially thousands in donations and paid for a game at the very least. They brought a product, they shouldn't have to force themselves to play the game, they should want to play the game. They are on the outside looking in, stuck just following patch notes after ISC after the monthly report, hoping that it gets into a playable state. I'm just one of those backers.
      This is a live service game. Fact. That's in an alpha state. you're conveniently forgetting the marketing teams pitch each quarterly release "this is star citizen" to market this "live service game" as something people can just jump in and play when it's not the case. whether you believe it or not, people are buying this game, logging in once, and never playing it again. that's a hard fact, and it's not right and i don't see the point in ignoring it. The only reason you can is that you are one of the minority playings that is happy. If you weren't happy you'd be exactly where i am, sitting watching development waiting for a day that may never come.
      And if i choose to perceive it as a pitch then that's how i read it, that's how someone else might read it too and doesn't invalidate how it was perceived even if you don't think you meant it that way.
      This is not a case of people liking a hobby (airsoft) or not liking a hobby (airsoft). Someone has paid money for this product and is still a fan and a backer who arrives and finds it entirely empty and devoid of content, fundamentally missing components, or game-breaking bugs, or basic implementations that aren't fun, even Chris doesn't play his own game. Then everyone who is happy turning around and just saying "its your fault", you should know how to make up your own gameplay in a computer game, or be able to put up with bugs and missing features or maybe you need to buy a better computer. Why is it always the backer's fault and not the game? sandbox has never meant you have to make up gameplay content, put up with broken of missing mechanics, its simply meant freedom to play a game with many mechanics your own way. that in its self implies complete mechanics, a working game to sandbox in. You can't just create some empty levels and tell people to be imaginative. We are not 5-year-olds in a playground coming up with something to do.
      you're just sharing your feelings and these are mine. We are both backers. whether we both agree or not we are technically both right in our opinions.

    This video brought tears of joy to my eyes. I have supported this game since 2010 yes i have a golden ticket being one of the first 10000 to support this game, i have only played it once as i don't have the PC to really enjoy the vast scope of it. I have been saving money to build one, one day ill get to enjoy this beautiful massive project.

    I've been waiting for life like The Expanse ever since I was 17, already a sci-fi fan then, but then was introduced to a flight stick and Wing Commander. I'm now 46. And while I love Elite Dangerous for what it is. Star Citizen is the closest that I'm ever going to get to see and experience the dreams I had as a teenager.

    This is a great video and reminds me that there are others who have had some trying times, but in the end have made it through. My story is similar, although I never went down the Elite path, I did realize both games started about the same time, but 2 different sides of the coin. One is the old way, one is the new. Star Citizen/Chris Roberts knew that in order for you to have life like game play, you have to walk in ships and on planets, not be a ship. It takes a lot of work and time to make the tools for this type of game. Once the tools are in place, it will go much faster. It is good to see someone that feels the same way about SC. I'm in for the long haul, as long as it takes, wherever it goes. It's been one helluva ride so far ... in the deep black. Keep the videos coming , I'm subbed 07

I do not regret my investment in the game and by the time it's ready, my BPS might be too. I still enjoy seeing the progress and like you, I saw the Perseus and had to contribute.
