With BNSF buying about 75 new GEVOs last year, and recently purchasing nearly 800 more, the end of the last golden days of BNSF are coming to an close. As of today, May 28, 2024, there are only two executive SD70MACs remaining in active service, 9661 and 9570. While there are a few in local service along the MRL (3) and Casper Sub (2)*, these are totally restricted units and are unable to go elsewhere unless for shop work or reassignment. As for the H2 SD70MACs, only one remains, 9848, though a few are leased by NS through WFRX. This video displays my final catches of three MACs, 9780, 9661, and 9953, with 9661 on one more run despite the numerous store requests it faces...
*A few are in shops with uncertain fates, and some may return to MT or WY post-repairs.

They paid for themselves over and over and over . Fantastic locomotives!
Hi Freight Train Productions & it's is Randy and i like yours video is Cool & Thanks Freight Train Productions & Friends Randy
Why I joined is because your videos are what I like to watch. No talking and the camera rarely moves. Simple, but effective.
Thanks for joining, and glad you enjoy!
9570 is currently being transported to Alliance, NE for storage, and 9780 has made it to Alliance.
9570 is supposed to be, but it's been mis-assigned 4 times now, may still have a few more runs.
EXCELLENT !!! WHY DO THEY LETN THESE LITTLE BABY'S IN ADULT BODIES TAG THEIR CARS??
I really hope some get into preservation, these SD70MACs still have life! CSX still uses them a lot!
Would've been nice to see more rebuilt, but BNSF is more focused on buying than rebuilding for whatever reason. And me too, I would think a few will be preserved, but you can never be certain.
Truly a heartbreaking video to watch. However, the purpose we serve as videography railfans is becoming apparent: to preserve the memories of the golden days of railfanning for future generations to see.
Maybe someday scientists will finally figure out how to make time travel work
Indeed, just too bad there's not many years left of that.
I feel like time travel will be used for more pressing matters, at least first, but we can always dream...
Excellent video fantatic Like and greeting my Friend
Ns rebuilt most of there’s to sd70acc sad day love the macs
Retired, scraped, or sold ?
Most are going into storage, some of the early ones have been sold for scrap and these will likely follow in the coming years.
@@FreightTrainProductions I had the honor to have worked on quite a few here in Denver at the D&RGW fuel track over the years.
I have hundreds of pictures of the in action.
Wow, very cool!
Why are they being retired ?
From what I can tell, they are being replaced by new ES44ACH and ET44ACH units. It's kind of odd, though, I originally thought they would start migrating over to other trains other than coal as the newer SD70ACes are doing, possibly booting some of the Dash 9s out. But as it turns out, the GE/Wabtech units are cheaper in terms of purchasing new as well as replacement parts, despite being less reliable than the SD70MAC and SD70ACe, hence why the Dash 9s and AC4400CWs that were built at the same time as the MACs will continue on.
Correct, BNSF also just plainly has better connections with GE than EMD. A lot of MACs were off coal service in the months leading up to this, but coal was always their primary purpose. The Dash 9s are also starting to go, all the ATSF ones have been taken off the mains and from what I've seen the BNSF-bonnets will be all stored by early 2025. Assuming the 800 unit order is true, that will be it for a majority of their Dash 9 fleet and ThunderCab ACes too.
They’re being retired?
Unfortunately, yes.
@@FreightTrainProductions that sucks. Are they going into storage or being scrapped?
Most of the late active ones are going for storage, but the older 9400s and 9500s series MACs are starting to be sold and scrapped. Would guess some will reside in Donkey Creek, where most are stored today, for at least a few more years.
@@FreightTrainProductions I hope they will sell or donate some to museums. Where’s donkey creek?
Wyoming, just east of Gillette, around where most of the coal trains are loaded. Here: 44°17'18.5"N 105°16'43.6"W
I will hopefully get around to posting a video of the deadlines there in the next few weeks.
