If you would like to learn D&D, i highly recommend that you go to a local gaming shop and see if they have any games that run there. If there are, you might be able to convince them to teach you and let you join a campaign. If that's not possible, you should make an account on roll20.net and try to find a campaign there to play online. The game they are playing is 5th edition D&D and is very popular right now.
rewatching this show, when he says "take notes there's a quiz at the end" and in couple episodes they have to have remembered some details to gain exp while asleep
I haven't watched it yet but I remember them mentioning something about Geoff not liking dice because he spent a lot of his time stuck under a tree. Hopefully that's this episode.
yup. they walked all over him. sad to watch. No respect for your DM means you're gonna just talk over him and disregard the environment and premise. I'll stop the game flat out in a non dickish way, and wait until I have their focus to keep moving. I didn't put the work in to get walked on. you're either participating in the story or you're a static character constantly cracking jokes and not capable of carrying the arc.
I DMed a group who had the same concept, but they did it with an enemy goblin they had incapacitated and tied to the fighter's shield as an extra layer of shielding.
@@captainbritain7379 we had a giant with a spiked shield, enemies he ran into would get stuck and take 3 points of damage each round until they perform a saving throw. the more enemies impaled the slower he was but the more defense he got.

I'm here for two reasons. 1. Craig told me to support the best channel around And 2. Bring back old school fantasy heroes and halfwits, Ryan roaming around saying "I guess I'll eldritch blast" is the basis of any good dnd campaign
I hope they release the DM notes for this. only a little bit into the video so far, and I'm already loving the setting and everything. The fact that AH is involved just makes it better
KingCurry in this company with these people he 100% can snap at them to pay attention lol. He’s just aware of what they’re all like lmao. It would just make them talk over him even more out of spite

They apparently looked into some animation and live-action sequences but they thought it'd push this back too much from being a weekly show to like, a monthly show.
+Jon Well, they only really need to animate the action and maybe just record voices for it. It could be like some kind of animated show based on this game. For this video it would only really be like 5 minutes long.
The proficiency bonus for the spear throw during the snake fight (can't quite recall the time) but the proficiency mechanic started at +2 for level 1, assuming that they are starting at level 1 instead of level 2 (as a 3.5 barbarian would have +2 BAB at level 2) then it is fair enough to assume that they are playing 5e. As for the DM forcing paladin to be LG that could be because of prior editions forcing that and he doesn't believe that Paladins should be any other alignment because of past experience.
simple suggestion, DnD is made much more palatable to those of us that have no experience with it through the use of slight occasional animation. RT has the assets to do that, for instance when the Dungeon Master (i think) describes a setting we could be given a simple picture or animation of it set to themed music. So far i really enjoy this though just hard to wrap my mind around alot of the fantasy aspects without having ever played WOW or DnD.
I hate that Frank is making Michael be Lawful Good, Paladin alignment restrictions aren't mechanically enforced anymore and assuming that Michael would take the Oath of Vengeance (because let's be honest, he's Michael) it would make plenty of sense for him to be Neutral.
I’ve always found Paladins are always Good but lawful, neutral, or chaotic depends on what oath they choose, Vengeance literally sounds like Chaotic Good, etc.
I have a different way of explaining the "Lawful Good" enforcement, and it has everything to do with perception (not the skill, the concept). A Paladin MUST be Lawful, because they HAVE to follow the tenets of their deity. To the Paladin, those tenets ARE ALWAYS MORALLY RIGHT, and are therefore GOOD. If the tenets of their deity say "all goblins are evil, and their kind must not be allowed to exist", the Paladin would be more than happy to slaughter, torture and otherwise commit total genocide on every single goblin man, woman, and child, down to the last infant, and they would absolutely believe what they were doing was right and just...Lawful Good. Goblins are unworthy of mercy or humane treatment because that deity ordains it to be so.
+Matthew Birkett I am of the opposite opinion...Paladins must ALWAYS be Lawful...they HAVE to follow the tenets of their deity or they lose their power. I can usually bend the moral alignment based on outside or inside perception. To the Paladin, he is always Good because he does his deity's bidding. To the people he slaughters in the name of that deity, however... Law and Chaos are Objective alignments...if you follow a code of conduct, you are lawful. If you do whatever the Hell you feel like, you are chaotic. If you try to balance following laws in some areas, but are a free spirit in others, then you are Neutral. Good and Evil are 100% Subjective...to the mouse, the cat is evil, but to the farmer, the cat is doing good by removing pests. The cat thinks he's just doing what he needs to survive...he is neutral.
I think he said he was a warlock (when talking about samples). Warlock magic comes gr8 ok m higher power, wizard from books and learning, sorcerer from within.
Can't really say he's TOO much of an asshole. After all, pop culture has never been kind to "nerds" and "geeks" that play these games, reiterating the stereotype of being losers. I mean, just look at Big Bang Theory. That show gives a bad name to a whole rainbow of "nerds" and "geeks", from those who play WoW and read comic books, to those who play D&D and watch Star Trek.
Its funny the foreshadowing was so real for the series. Orma with the multi personality and her vision in the beginning. The Palatine with the do good and evil and seeing god. And Ryan being chaotic evil and neutral. And Geoff being almost useless until he uses song of inspiration. It's awesome to see the evolution. Can't wait for the next season.
I am very excited to start watching this. Up until now, the craziest thing I have witnessed is in a game I run, in which a group of 7 level 1 characters managed to a) force a giant snapping turtle (level 12) to retreat into its shell and b) "rear" that same turtle, making it their loyal pet. Well, loyal to one of the party members at least. They named it Tank. Everyone fears the party now, because Tank will probably eat anyone who crosses the party.
it's hard to go from critical role to this but that being said I'm very excited about this going forward I wanted an achievement hunter D&D game for YEARS.
It's hard to watch after seeing critical role playing for so long at such a high caliber, them being voice actors an all just make it so more immersive
This feels much more like how most D&D sessions for most players would go; basically a bunch of people cracking jokes and having a good time while also occasionally playing some D&D.
Totally. While I like Critical Role for being so professional, and it is fun to watch, this game feels a bit more genuine. Almost all of my games wind up derailed by in-jokes and conversation over and over again, but that's half the fun. Especially if drinking gets involved. I'm lucky I take good notes, or half my party's progress would get lost in a fuzz of good drinks and bad jokes.
Is that a screen they're playing on? That's... really freaking clever. I've gotten so used to vertical, digital screens that I never thought to sit one on it's side.
Wow I'm about 15 minutes in and so far it's really well put together and really detailed! My friends and I have been playing Pathfinder for 3 or 4 months now and aside from the intro to the campaign we haven't been given to much info unless we roll checks. A friend and I are about to DM a campaign for the first time so I'm definitely going to try and give some more detail! A nice learning experience so far!
I remember watching this when it 1st released. Now on 7/6/2022 I still love it. I dream of being able to DM for AH and/or RT to revive this series but with new twist and maybe slight rebranding. Here's to hope!
@@jasondamrau9147 yeah everything feels too forced now if that's even the right word, the days of old RT are past us. back then everyone felt like they were great friends doing whatever
I groaned when Gus said Paladin. I double groaned when Ryan said Chaotic Neutral. I laughed when Michael said paladin because I just can't imagine it. *continues to watch*
Different styles. Matt is story and world. Perkins has less of that, but more comedy and "Hell yeah you can!" Part of it is just how their sessions are build; Perkins has discrete storylines in an established world that have to semi-resolve. Matt has his own setting.
Just started watching and “you’re a Paladin, you have to be lawful good” Michael didn’t say who he was a paladin of so he could be any alignment that fits the character DM:“You’re a paladin? Oh great we’ve got some to keep everyone in check!!!” Player: “Sorry to burst your bubble but I’m a Paladin of Gruumsh The Ruiner”
Only just come across this series and while i've only seen D&D games from outside [having never played it before], i am now in love with this series and how everybody acts! :)
I'd love to see them play 40k but I doubt any of them have the time to build and paint that stuff, commissioning that would be expensive and they don't even know how many people would watch it.
This has me in tears. Also I'm learning! I never had the chance to play d&d and I've always thought it sounds cool. I'm glad to have a chance to see how it's done
49:23 Unless I've forgotten & that this "green faced humanoid" was taken care of in this part or the next...wow can't believe that THIS character knew about the group so early on. Just rewatching these as I only listened to them as podcasts.

starting at around 48 mins, does someone hear some weird mic noises or is that just on my side?
It's Griffons mic, it isn't sticking to her cheek and the hair messes with it.
+Simon Eliasson it's kinda annoying 😂
Simon Eliasson ah, okay
***** what?
***** it ends after a bit, don't worry
Its funny the foreshadowing was so real for the series. Orma with the multi personality and her vision in the beginning. The Palatine with the do good and evil and seeing god. And Ryan being chaotic evil and neutral. And Geoff being almost useless until he uses song of inspiration. It's awesome to see the evolution. Can't wait for the next season.
as someone who's never played D&D i would have liked to see the pilot episode to learn how the game works.
Maybe not this episode, but under the right circumstances this series could make for a great RTAA source.
love how much went into the description of the fleet, only for the ships to be destroyed immediately
"Do they speak deep"
IT BEGINS!
Gus is really embracing his RvB character xD
Taking notes for Sergeant xD
I am very excited to start watching this. Up until now, the craziest thing I have witnessed is in a game I run, in which a group of 7 level 1 characters managed to a) force a giant snapping turtle (level 12) to retreat into its shell and b) "rear" that same turtle, making it their loyal pet. Well, loyal to one of the party members at least. They named it Tank. Everyone fears the party now, because Tank will probably eat anyone who crosses the party.
Greg DeVille damn wtf
I don't know what I'm watching... but I'm enjoying it :)
same
Dungeons and Dragons
I'm gonna assume you guys are awfully young
An Than Van Man Tan Nah, I knew it was D&D I just never really got into it and don't know the rules.
The best part of this is that Griffon is back in videos again. #GriffonMakeAchievementHunterGreatAgain
it's hard to go from critical role to this but that being said I'm very excited about this going forward I wanted an achievement hunter D&D game for YEARS.
"Running into the jungle without your party is gonna backfire on you one day" oh boy that aged like fine wine
It's hard to watch after seeing critical role playing for so long at such a high caliber, them being voice actors an all just make it so more immersive
That's the pro league, this is like amateur which is not a bad thing.
Amateur? This is barely Little League xD
But not in a bad way, it's still very entertaining
This feels much more like how most D&D sessions for most players would go; basically a bunch of people cracking jokes and having a good time while also occasionally playing some D&D.
Totally. While I like Critical Role for being so professional, and it is fun to watch, this game feels a bit more genuine. Almost all of my games wind up derailed by in-jokes and conversation over and over again, but that's half the fun. Especially if drinking gets involved. I'm lucky I take good notes, or half my party's progress would get lost in a fuzz of good drinks and bad jokes.
I'm SO happy that someone like Achievement Hunter is playing D&D, I've been waiting a LONG time for something like this!!!
Is that a screen they're playing on? That's... really freaking clever. I've gotten so used to vertical, digital screens that I never thought to sit one on it's side.
When there hasn't been any heroes and halfwits content for too damn long and you gotta re-watch the whole thing to get that fix.
I never realized how fucking dark this episode is. TURN ON A GODDAMN LIGHT!
I remember watching this when it 1st released. Now on 7/6/2022 I still love it. I dream of being able to DM for AH and/or RT to revive this series but with new twist and maybe slight rebranding. Here's to hope!
Don’t know how well the new crew would mesh with something like this. They don’t seem to have the same chemistry as the old school crew
to hope
@@jasondamrau9147 yeah everything feels too forced now if that's even the right word, the days of old RT are past us. back then everyone felt like they were great friends doing whatever
I groaned when Gus said Paladin. I double groaned when Ryan said Chaotic Neutral. I laughed when Michael said paladin because I just can't imagine it. *continues to watch*
He's a decent DM. But after watching Critical Role it's hard to size up against Matthew Mercer. Plus Mats hair
Yeah Matt is an awesome DM
He's more than decent imo, Matt is just the best though.
+Blenk Matt has nothing on Chris Perkins
Different styles. Matt is story and world. Perkins has less of that, but more comedy and "Hell yeah you can!"
Part of it is just how their sessions are build; Perkins has discrete storylines in an established world that have to semi-resolve. Matt has his own setting.
Matt is love #nohomo
Just started watching and “you’re a Paladin, you have to be lawful good”
Michael didn’t say who he was a paladin of so he could be any alignment that fits the character
DM:“You’re a paladin? Oh great we’ve got some to keep everyone in check!!!”
Player: “Sorry to burst your bubble but I’m a Paladin of Gruumsh The Ruiner”
"I don't think we're gonna find many allies over here" ~Orma
Famous last words
Vol. 1 is done. TIME TO WATCH IT ALL AGAIN!
Their next movie should be based off this series.
Only just come across this series and while i've only seen D&D games from outside [having never played it before], i am now in love with this series and how everybody acts! :)
Oh shit this is awesome! I hope they eventually expand to other table top games
Would love to see them play axis and allies
Warhammer 40k would be dope too
I just want someone to acknowledge the existence of Heroclix
I'd love to see them play 40k but I doubt any of them have the time to build and paint that stuff, commissioning that would be expensive and they don't even know how many people would watch it.
Shadowrun would be awesome.
time to catch up on 24 episodes in 6 hours...i got this
Jason Hogan try 34
Try 42
Elias Skinner try 45
Matthew Spencer Try 46
49 now
This has me in tears. Also I'm learning! I never had the chance to play d&d and I've always thought it sounds cool. I'm glad to have a chance to see how it's done
whelp... time to watch this again.
I wish a had friends to play this with
Cozzi same
Roll 20?
Family?
49:23
Unless I've forgotten & that this "green faced humanoid" was taken care of in this part or the next...wow can't believe that THIS character knew about the group so early on.
Just rewatching these as I only listened to them as podcasts.
Does anyone else hear Trevor's voice when Frank speaks?
Wow I just noticed now
Why is that a thing😂
Oh god, what have you done to me?! Now that's all i'm gonna hear.
