I love this shot of your bookshelves. They’re beautiful! Ice Sandwich sounds adorable!! You’re bringing back my reading experience of Eileen which was such an enjoyable gross one!
Hi Gretchen, What a fun video! I’ll start the God of the Woods tonight and have put others that you enjoyed on my Wish List. Because of your wonderful videos I’ve started tracking books on a spreadsheet and it’s so much fun to see the wish list items get checked off. Thank you for sharing. 🌸
I’m in the midst of Amos Oz’s ‘Tales of Love and Darkness’ and it’s absolutely wonderful. A reminiscence of the stories of his ancestors and memoir of his childhood in Israel, it has such a cozy feel while also conveying the hardships of immigrant families to Israel.
The best Liz Moore book ( in my opinion) is The Unseen World I’ve heard that , that book and The God of the Woods have been optioned to be adapted to film. Best books read so far this month Amy & Isabelle by Elizabeth Strout The Alternatives by Caoilinn Hughes My Friends by Hisham Matar The Coast Road by Alan Murrin Wild Houses by Colin Barrett
Also appreciate how you describe other books by the same author. Heaven was available right now on Libby so I can enjoy it now until Ms Ice Sandwich comes in. You really do bring a lot of joy into my life Gretchen. Hoping that you feel appreciated.
Long Bright River was a great book and A Spool of Blue Thread was good as well. Ism currently reading The Bee Sting which I am finding intriguing. My Women in Translation book will be Lullabyxx
It was so good! I heard there’s a movie and I might have to give it a go. Although I’m usually on the side of the book always being better so part of me doesn’t want to ruin it.
I've seen God of the Woods everywhere, even on Obama's reading list. I am glad you liked it, I am looking forward to trying it next. I am currently reading Claudia Pinero's new book for Women in Translation Month.
Thank you so much and that’s a great question! I’m a mood reader so I need different types of books going that I can dip in and out of depending on what I am in the mood for. It doesn’t take much for me to get into a slump if I force myself to read something that isn’t calling to me in the moment. Sometimes this means it will be a while before I start a book and pick it back up so I keep an index card in each book that I make little notes on. I will jot down important plot points and characters and when I pick it back up, I read the card to give me a little refresher. This has changed the game for me and it’s amazing how a little reminder will trigger all those things to come flooding back. I also try to make sure I am reading books that are very different from each other to help me keep them separated in my mind. There is absolutely no way I could read two fantasy books at the same time. The worlds would just end up melting into one. But I can usually keep a thriller and good historical fiction separated. Hope this helps ☺️
I seem to be very much in the minority but I was underwhelmed with The God of the Woods - loved Long Right River which is why I was eagerly anticipating Liz Moore’s next one - sadly, disappointing 😔
I really liked Ms. Ice Sandwich. So glad you enjoyed it as well. Such a nice story. I am on the waitlist at my library for God of the Woods. Hope I get a copy while it’s still summery. 😎🏕️

Thanks! I’m running out of shelf space though! I use every nook and cranny I can! 😂🤣😂
You are amazing with the number of books you are reading and I love your updates!!! The spool of Blue thread by Anne Tyler - a very good read💕

I loved Ms Ice Sandwich. I read it last year and I'm due to reread it. Al Pacino! 😉
Yes! Al Pacino!!!!
Agree with blurb on Eileen. I don’t read the blurb until after reading any book .
That’s a great practice. I have had so many books ruined this way.
I really enjoyed Eileen. After your review, I want to re-read it.
It was so good! I heard there’s a movie and I might have to give it a go. Although I’m usually on the side of the book always being better so part of me doesn’t want to ruin it.
I would recommend Ladder of Years by Anne Tyler. My personal favorite.
Added it to my TBR! Thanks!

Sorry for the delay with the comment. I hope you enjoyed the Pinero. I have only read Elena Knows but I loved it!
@madeubook I did finish 'God of the Woods' and liked it a lot. I liked 'Time of the Flies', but 'Elena Knows' is still my favorite Pineiro
Nice! Elena Knows is tough to beat. I’m glad you enjoyed The God of the Woods, too. It was a highlight of my summer reading for sure
On wait list at my library for the God of the Woods - was disappointed my library did not have “the WrenThe Wren - hoping comes in soon.
I enjoy your videos so much! You seem to read several books at once. Can you talk a little about how you juggle multiple books?

Best Ann Tyler ( in my opinion)
Dinner At The Homesick Restaurant
A lot of people have said that. It’s definitely on my TBR now 😂

That’s a bummer! But I’m glad to hear the praise for Long Bright River. I’m almost sure to like that one.
