What is the point of this? If you can't fit a full size wheel in the spare wheel well then where will you put the damaged tyre? in the boot with your luggage or on the passenger's lap? Seems like the solution to a non existent problem, Just carry a proper spare.
Twig I would lower my back seats and leave it there until got a new tyre fitted . The spare wheel is only temporary . So as soon as I replaced the damaged one, I’d deflate the spare one and put it back . I’d have it sorted within a day or two anyways It’s a space saver
Real cool. But nothing on the tire or in the compartment says the tire requires inflating before use. Both my spouse and I thought it was a new-fangled run-flat and drove on it right out of the compartment. No way of knowing until it shredded. Now I have to get a new one.
I know this video is 7 years old, but I'm hoping someone from TMM is still monitoring it. I just saw this video and I'm obsessed with trying to find out two things: 1. Do they make one that will fit on a 2018 Mercedes GLA250? 2. Where can I get one? I'm in Chicago in the USA
Hi, thanks for getting in touch. I guess it should be available from Mercedes only so your best bit is to call your local Mercedes dealer and ask for spare wheel, also you’ll need a jack and wheel brace. Thanks 🙏🏽
I would like to know how are we supposed to use that spare tyre when we have to? How are we supposed to make 45 psi on the road? Or we have to bring a compressor kit for our Mercedes ? 😃
@@TajMotorMedics Thank you for the reply. I get it. I meant that when you say "Mercedes" you imagine all the elite choices and ideas when it comes to engineering a car. However, what we see is that we do not even have a space for a spare tire. Also, the compressor could also malfunction which creates additional friction, haha. But they found a way to escape though.
I am old but what`s wrong with the old fashioned spare wheel well to fit all wheels, or the wrack to hold the wheel under the fuel tank. And any of the two above would be cheaper to make than a smaller wheel and an expensive tyre, and it would take longer to change than an ordinary wheel.
Can anybody help me, i just bought space saver spare wheels, but original wheel nuts is to long, where to get shorter nuts ? Or any item number please?
This is not new. When I worked at a Chrysler dealership back in the 80`s, some of the cars had this type of spare tire. It came with a canister of compressed air that you would screw onto the valve stem to inflate it.
No It will not FIT The w205 c class, It has no place for a spare, you either have run flat tires or tire fit and a compressor in the trunk, I work at Mercedes Benz in Norway and I know what I am talking about
Ironically it solves a problem that i have with my old mercedes r107, normal size spare requires a hump in the boot floor to make room for it but with this tire i can have a flat boot floor and a "normal" spare tire bye gooo!!!
I must be missing something. How does this save weight? Particularly as it needs the addition of a compressor. Silly me. I forgot about the weight of the air carried around in a normal spare.
I had one of those tyres on a UK spec Porsche 911 in the early 80's; it had a Porsche factory sticker on it stating that it was not approved to use in the UK! An electric pump was part of the std tool kit. 35 years on they must have got approval.
What they did was to exclude the spare wheel from the MOT test. It's no longer a test item but if you had a flat and used the spacesaver on the way to get your MOT it would fail the test.
This is dumb! Why inflate a spare tire for use? And deflate it after use? Why not have a “ready to go” already inflated spare tire like all the others?
Alot of earlier Mercedes has these, they give you a digital inflater with the car that hooks up to the car, it's really stupid. It causes another headache - so if you have a flat you need to inflate your spare before you install it, great way to add another useless step to waste time Mercedes....classic germans.
That’s helpful to know. A video speaks a thousand words. Thanks Taj.
How long does the GLK compressor take to inflate the spare tire?
Hi will this tyre fit for w213 mercedes e class 2016 . New shape saloon?
Hi, this one was 15inch so i doubt it. W213 has 16inch wheels.
Any same kind of spear wheels for the Mercedes Benz E coupe class?
That's weird but at least they actually provide a spare as opposed to the fix-a-flat repair kit that I got with mine.
What is the point of this?

And if you were driving your family to catch a plane with a trunk full of luggage?
Then you hide your punctured wheel in the ditch until you have room.
Yes, or alternatively, the manufacturers could make wheel wells adequate to accommodate a full sized wheel.
Sigbjørn u killed me with that comment lol
Merc started using this type of spare wheel/tyre quite a while ago now.
Could those be installed on anither wheel?
Excellent demo- thanks. 👍
Thanks 🙏
Bruh thanks a mil for this! Thought I a defective tire lol
Spot on TAJ
Thanks, happy to see that in real. I have one on my 350 SL ans I prefer seeing that before to have to use it...
Amazing! Thanks for the video demonstration.
You’re welcome 😊

I think you should go back to Mercedes if that’s the case..
You could have read the owner's manual, in which it comes literally everything tire related
@@orlando9609 The owner's manual does not include this specific type of tire and does not match what came with the car.

Hi usually you would have a air compressor supplied by Mercedes in the boot somewhere. Thanks
On another note it’s a poor design all to just save space 😂

Just found out, my 87 Nissan 300zx has a collapsible spare. Looks pretty funky lol
My 2000 SLK has it...
Can anybody help me, i just bought space saver spare wheels, but original wheel nuts is to long, where to get shorter nuts ? Or any item number please?
😀👍👍Klasse Video !!! MOLODEZ 👍
I wonder if I can remove the rubber and mount it on a 4.5” spare wheel for a Smart Fortwo
I have Mercedes e220d model amp w213 tyre size is 245/40R 19 the space of the boot is 40x60 this spare wheel is feet on this space
This is not new. When I worked at a Chrysler dealership back in the 80`s, some of the cars had this type of spare tire. It came with a canister of compressed air that you would screw onto the valve stem to inflate it.
Would it fit to c43 AMG 2021 estate ?
I have Mercedes c220 tdi sport cupe[2005] model amp w203 tyre size is 205/55R 16 the space of the boot is 20x53 .. whether it fits my machine?
Ingenious!
sooooo, if you get a puncture in the middel of no where, where you cant inflate the spare what haapnes then?
You showed 2010 c class. Then went to the trunk of a different car. Why??
How do i inflate when i am stranded
will this fit c class saloon 2016
Yes it will
No It will not FIT The w205 c class, It has no place for a spare, you either have run flat tires or tire fit and a compressor in the trunk, I work at Mercedes Benz in Norway and I know what I am talking about
Volvo used these in their 200 Series as early as the mid 70s.
Insane quite frankly not to have a normal replacement! Is it cost or what ??
Cost, reduced weight & space.
This is such a German thing.
Creating a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.
I'll stick to a full size spare thanks.

It's called a space saver, not a weight saver
These are made by Dutch Tyre Company Vredestein.
This isn’t new technology just new for Mercedes

i have 2018 c class dosent got any place to a spear tire dosent work like this and even not a place for a spear tire
2018 Mercedes has runflat Tyres so that’s why it hasn’t got a spare wheel but you should have space in the back to put one in.
no place to spare tire in the back thats the problem
and they giving a thing u pur in the wheel and the flat is fine but dosent do noting
Check the teaser out for UK to Pakistan by road ruclips.net/video/x_DEzi3xRDA/видео.html
Ok so where's the self changing wheels. Like the one Bill Cosby Mercedes had or has.
Mine won't fit back
This is dumb! Why inflate a spare tire for use? And deflate it after use? Why not have a “ready to go” already inflated spare tire like all the others?
Its a space saver wheel
Collapsible full-sized spare vs a donut. Throw in canned air like they did back in the 70s, and I'll take the collapsible spare any day.

VW had that years ago
MB = Run Flat
Must save on weight with no air, ha ha.
all to save weight for the rediculous emission laws in europe.
so now you have to carry a airpump with you very silly idea fully size is the way to go
The cars come with thier own compressors built in
I'll keep my full size spare in my Audi thanks
Not for long, VW have adopted this along with a jack called the "widow maker".
