  • An instructional video on how to add wing buds to your chironies! I've fished chironomids with and without goose biot wing buds and I've gotta say that wing buds when tied properly are definitely the winning choice with many, many more takes each outing!
    The Hemoglobin Chironomid - this pattern was one of the first chironomids that I ever tied and should be an essential stillwater staple in your fly box! Some great tyers out there do an ASB rib which works unbelievably well too, so get a few dozen tied of each and hold on tight.
    All tied on Togens Fly Shop Curved Nymph Hooks sizes 14, 16, and 18 with corresponding Togens Tungsten Bead sizes 2.4mm, 2.0mm, and 1.5mm respectfully.
    I've encorporated Togens Chironie Skin in Red for the butt section, Silver Ultrawire for the rib. Selected Semperfli Natural Range Goose Biots for the wing buds, and Nano Silk 18/0 in Black and White for my tying threads. A rust colored art marker added to the white nano creates a nice thorax that bleeds nicely when you finish it with GULFF Fly Fishing UV resin.
    Hope you enjoy and learn a tip or two, thanks for watching!

    Great job! I co-authored the book Modern Midges with Rick Takahashi and Rick taught me to use this method to tie the wing buds on his Crystal Chironomid. Love your instruction video and your wing buds are perfect! Thanks for sharing! Jerry Hubka

      Wow Jerry that's such a great comment, I truly appreciate your kindness. I'll have to check that book out. I'm always looking to learn and improve. That's the beautiful thing about fly-tying and fly-fishing; it's a never ending learning curve! Thanks again my friend, have a great night!

    My friend this is one of the best pattern I've seen. The only different thing i do is at the end i use a rust colour thread for the thorax. Thank you for the great tutorial...

    Where can I get a HuHu alcohol based marker, #2467, without buying an entire set? It is expensive.

      I'd suggest probably an arts and crafts store like Michael's should have them. Even substitute for a Sharpie and you'll get a similar result no worries! Thanks for watching!

      Aww thank-you for such a nice comment Amelia! I'm pretty booked up at the moment, filling my own boxes and a few for some close friends before spring ice off. Wish I had the endurance of commercial tyers to sell these though but maybe in the future. Cheers!

    What color wire ?

    • @tyingismyvise
      @tyingismyvise  Год назад

      For this pattern, a silver wire works perfect in size Sm for hook sizes 16 and 14 and a size XS for size 18.

    Why the bead on backwards

    • @tyingismyvise
      @tyingismyvise  Год назад +1

      Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! For me it's personal artistic preference. I like the way the thorax transitions to the bead and the fish don't really seem to mind either way. Cheers brother!
