Flying around the Fitz Roy massif to Cerro Torre

- On the 11th January 2024, I got a day with nice weather. The instability was predicted to be high, with southwind in the altitude. The southerly flow is needed to counter the westerly from the Campo Hielo and make conditions more enjoyable than on my first flight.
I hiked early to Loma de las Pizzaras, always asking me if it is the right take-off. Getting close to the summit, a Condor launched. I was relieved and started to prepare.
Unfortunately, the rocks on take off are super sharp, and I instantly cut B3 and 2 break lines.
After making some knots and losing time, I was ready for take off. The thermal cloud already formed about my head, and I soon joined cloudbase at 2500m. Which allowed me to fly close via Mojón Rojo, Aguja Saint-Exúpery to Aguja Poincenot, I did not make it over the glacial plateau, I had to follow the serac further down to the border of glacier and drier and therefore warmer ground. It is where the thermals are, joined by 3 condors to fly to Aguja Guillaumet. From here, I flew to the other side of Fitz, but could not really find lift. So back to Aguja Guillaumet, make the 2500m base, and then put all on one card and see if the Torres will have a thermal.
Soon after, I was arriving quite low to Torre Standhardt, then Torre Egger. Unfortunately, even the east face of Cerro Torre did not have a thermal, I was too low to get the lift. The area is very cold and glaciated. That's probably also why the condors did not join me. They turned around halfway through the transition.
I knew the southwind would flow upwards the valley at some point, so I tried to search the line where the warmer south wind would hit the cold glacier. On El Mocho and Adela, it was how I imagined, and there was a line of lift. Without it, I would have had a long hike out. I used the altitude to play around on the southeast ridge and then fly to Cerro Solo.
By that time, the cloud coverage was already a good 9/10, but I thought I might as well fly to Lago de Disierto in order to learn a bit more about the area here. Passing by at Vispignani and then coming back to land in #Elchalten #paragliding #dreams #Patagonia #exploring #mountains www.xcontest.o...
Mind blown. So beautiful
@@maxgarnett1170 yes, one of the most surreal views I habe had in a paragliding flight.
Incroyable !!! Bravo gars 💪
Merci. Oui c'était le rêve !
Wow.
Beautiful!
Thank you!
That's great !!
🙏
Brutallllll
Spicy thermals 🌶
@@fl0ups not as spicy as in the first flight I did there.
Extraterrestrial mountains! I've noticed you were flying with a bird. In the Alps, they are quite used to fly with us, paragliders, and attack very rarely. How was it in the Andes?
@@dymanoid the condors in the andes are not used to the gliders. But they are such master of the sky that they always want to go where the best air is. So they come very close and surf the vortex of your glider. Such majestic and huge birds!
Incredible Fabi. Please could you upload it without music?
@@JoacoLopez27 sorry, I only upload it once. I thought I might be too bring without music.
🏔️🤌🏻🤌🏻 geil
Danke
