From time to time I get gifts sent to me often with out any warning
My RUclips contract says that they could be deemed as payed promotions
Due to the nature of me doing vids daily mostly in a hurry
I feel it’s best so not to fall foul of contract so I will now just add the hash tag #paidpromotion to all my vids
#yourharvest
I am 77 and still dig out and maintain a ditch by hand as it’s my side of hedge. This drains road so I clear the grups but tractors and cars run onto the verge and crush them. I did them six weeks ago and yesterday had to ease them again. Please stay off the verges it hard for an old man. Don’t get any thanks from the community either I have to flag them down when I am doing it.
Good on you for trying to keep things working well
Some Lorry drivers and most delivery drivers have no respect for verges.
Much you looking for 7710 hi
Had 101
That plasma cut sign would look mint on a weight block
I watched all the way through as usual Olly. Not a farmer (can't even successfully grow spuds in the garden) so obviously don't really know what the NFU lady is on about. But I do feel the government has an agenda to destroy British farming in order to meet their completely ridiculous (and ultimately meaningless) 'net zero' targets. I really feel for all you farmers and the extreme frustrations you must all be feeling these days.65% today
You are right. Control the food - you control the people. The NFU is not your friend. But hey, what do I know?
Lots of wise words there Olly!
A lot of flooding could be prevented by a bit of work with slew diggers but instead they'll spend millions on flood defences in the middle of towns.
We can not dig the ditches and rivers. As it destroys animal habits. BUT we can drow them
Very true.
Yes but we can throw houses up on fields and bypasses and train lines 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
Bonkers isn't it?
Is it time to mass ignore authority and make collective decisions?
Wouldn't large ponds help with run off put strategically before large towns to ease large water run of problems? For one.
The EA having made Dredging so Difficult they now call it De Silting to try to Circumnavigate their own Rules. I spent 14 Months in Somerset Dredging and doing remedial works after the Floods on the Somerset Levels and I have to say Most EA employees are terrified of their own shadow frightened to make a decision and more interested in preserving their job and pension to worry about what is happening out in the real world and it is Easier not to do anything.
About time farmers started sending big bills to the environment agency
The ea is a total waste of time and money why they don't just get off they're arses and clean ditches and rivers. if it was they're houses being flooded they would soon get something done. Don't even get me started on the deluded echo warriors😡
But what about all the homeless frogs?? 🤣🤣🤣@@dince4031
EA budget is tiny compared to 13 years ago, so are council budgets. Something changed 13 years ago.
@@hectorkidds9840 Did labour spend all the dosh when they were on power?
And let's not forget Dutch engineer Cornelius Vermuyden who worked on draining and the periodic flooding.
We would always see the dredging barge going along the River Ouse near Goole. Never ever see it now.
Amazed me how fast the land either side of the M18 between Rawcliffe Bridge and Thorne became flooded yesterday
Defo right there Gary the only dredging is in docks it self at Goole now + ships used to sail up pass us at Goole for Selby but now days there sand banks and mud flaps in river Ouse yet it drains most of Yorkshire in to the Humber .
My father bless his memory lived as a lad near a river, for sometime before he passed he said the water problems will only get worse as the watermen that used to clear the rivers of excess weed and debris were done away with! The modern machinery could clear it with ease but they won’t do it!
It’s the same with the roads being full of potholes now. My village used to have a couple of men whose sole job was to maintain the roads in the parish. I assume most parishes would have the same. Then they were done away with, contracts for road maintenance were put out to tender, the cheapest quote getting the job whereupon nothing gets done properly. The county council now have a fancy wancy website for reporting potholes yet still nothing gets done properly
Quite agree with you Olly, when I was a kid I remember the road sweeper and gully cleaner coming round every month now we are lucky to one once a year. When my dad was on the farm every year they would be cutting hedges and clearing ditches after harvest. Environment agency need a kick up the backside. Keep up the good work.👍👍
I’ve been cleaning roadside Ditch’s out for my Local Authority for the last three years solid , also cleaning Gully tops off , carrying out drainage repairs , installing filter drains ,scraping kerb lines off etc ! Not many local authorities carry out this sort of maintenance work these days .
Gully's don't get emptied,
Streams don't get dredged
Rivers don't get dredged
We build on flood plains
WE ARE FLOODED OUT
they cut the amount oif gully tanks and expand the area and then we struggle to get around then theres usually the case its a dedicated gully cleaning team and no holiday cover when they go on holiday. and the 6 week inspection kill a the schedule, gully cleaning works if the manholes and carrier pipes get cleaned jetted and ties in with dredging
You hit the nail on the head with the drains and gulleys, I can’t remember the last time I seen the local council cleaning them out. I think most of them you walk past and look down are pretty much full of debris and blocked!
Years ago my local council had a fleet of at least 12 gully suckers, they now have 1 and you never see it out!!
@@richardedgar3447 probably running around like a blue arsed flea
Well said Ollie!!! I live in Newark Notts (near Andrew Ward) ... A1 was closed on Friday due to flooding... new said HA and police on sight dealing with the issue!! Issue that could be dealt with equals poor maintainence!? Shocking for such a major road
Completely right on both issues.
Keeping it real Ollie selling some asset's 🚜 to keep the wheels turning like your honesty 👍
Well said Olly, the EA say not maintaining the waterways protects the wildlife, but when the waterways flood the wildlife dies.
Maintenance is a word that nobody listens to we had over 50 acres covered in water last Wednesday 2010 was the last time twas like this n nothing has been done lost 3 cows with poisoning after that nobody listens fair play olly Maintenance is a powerful word an election winner hope this video is shared all over
Here in York we had around 75mm of rain in the past 3 days. I hope everyone is well and safe around the country.🙏🏻
Thanks for the birthday mention, a lot of general day to day maintenance on roads and waterways aren’t being done because it’s not on the spreadsheet
We lived next to the river Calder years back and the river authorities used to come with barges and cut trees back etc so it ran smoothly Not like it does now
Ollie you need to get Clarkson to mention the old river authority we need them back , we get flooded be use no one does any ditch clearing anymore. It's madness
Well done on your rant and the EA, fully agree with you. I also think that Red Tractor is too powerful and make rules that are unworkable. Get the feeling that everything and I mean everything is broken. Take Olly, hope James gets better soon. 85%. Yes I always watch to then end.
Brilliant observation on our waterways Olly.
I think the last time you said anything about the environment agency, some one commented that we mustn't clear the ditches because as you said it floods further down, and by holding the water up the ground works as a sponge, why can we not have some one like you with common sense in charge WELL SAID start at the bottom and work your way up that is why the system is there
True Statement ! One Horse Pulling the Cart In Britain Today 😡👍
I totally agree Olly the lack off investment in the water ways is a main contributor to the flooding all over the country and building on flood plains doesn’t help with the water management 👏👏👍👍
Hi olliy you speak a lot of senes you a very nice down to earth man and do a good job for a lot of poeple
Farmers should take back control and be paid to keep ditches clear, but it like environment agency is more interested in saving wildlife than protecting crops and property.
i know a plumbing company a mate who sadly passed young was the only plumber and they had 4 in the office,he was making 5 wages
Hi Olly as a retired Land Drainage Contractor you are exactly right in everything you say the ditches and brooks are not maintained and that is the main problem. When I drained a field the Ministry would inspect it was done correctly. Farmers would get a 60% grant towards the cost but that has long gone. Also the other problem the likes of Wrexham Industrial Estate imagine how many millions of litres come off that during a heavy storm which all has to go somewhere.
We 80mm rain put drill away for the year. Some places further north got even more
Think Ollys comment on the maintenance of rivers are bang on! And to me, that straight ditch he was driving along side looks totally man made, so the human intervention has already happened. Not to mention all the other human interventions around it and the other fields he has shown flooded recently, such as major roads, railways etc. To propose that everyone simply downs tools and lets nature take its course is to deny the fact that the countryside we exist in is hugely imrpoved and influence by human activity. It is total ideological folly to leave things to 'nature', these things need to continue to be managed intelligently, using human ingenuity, that same ingenuity that turned our nation from a natural, but impoverished land, to a efficient, fetile and productive land that has brought such riches to ourselves and the wider world
Seems to me Red Tractor has got too big for it’s boots or is being steered by the supermarkets.
Shocking weather Olly!! My local village in 🇮🇪 was flooded……the river came out and flooded all the shops and houses 😢 my parents are in their 70s and have never seen it before and up the road a town was flooded too !!!!
I’ve mentioned it before but sadly I think you’re gonna have to get a high flow pto pump and hoses to help drain the flood quicker, may be an investment
I watched right to the end Olly. Not a farmer anymore ( used to work with livestock) years ago. I have to say though watching your videos has brought back an interest in farming. Hope the crops survive the flooding and the slugs drown. Keep up the good work.
I spent all last week ditching for a town in Maine less than hundred of feet from the Atlantic ocean. It is essential for the community and road infrastructure.
Country’s fuked Olly need more like you 💯💪💪rivers need dredging then no more flooding 💯
It occurs to me that in protecting the drain and river habitat they are risking loosing other protected habitats by flooding as well as allowing the flooding to cause other on told damage. I was hoping they had learnt a lesson on the Somerset Levels when that flooded because the drains were SO silted up !!! Sadly not. A cynic would say they are hiding behind the ECO message to save money on dredging. You are quite right the whole system is at best broken, certainly not fit for purpose.
Well said about the water course they don't even take out the sludge out of the drains any more
Missed it all nearly in Dorset had very little rain here.
Very well said on the Environment Agency!
im a ex roadworker who used to do the gullies/drain cleaning you can clean them and jet them and run in other places the burns/streams and rivers are that full of crap they need diigging it out , EPA/SEPA are far to burrocratic for their own good , they cut the amount of motors and expand the are to cover . the muckshift is quieting down now its time to get those guys on ditching and dredging
All the way to the end as always. Just wondering if everyone along that ditch got together and cleaned it out from one end to the other and then swnt the environment agency a bill for it. Just an out there idea. Great video as always. Hopefully the crop dosent die off and the water goes down quick
It's a pretty damning indictment of the state of the rural economy when a relatively successful farmer such as you has to sell equipment to maintain cash flow. As for the flooding - hopeless mismanagement by successive governments who don't give a toss about farmers or the rural landscape. When I was in Normandy in the summer, I saw armies of people clearing verges and ditches.
Hi Olly, watched till end. I'm farming east coast of Scotland, in the centre of the red warning area this weekend. Totally agree with problems with EA. We have SEPA that are no better. Weekend 7th/8th we had 107mm of rain, with associated flooding. It dried & got some drilling done and cut beans, then Barbet. 90mm in first 24hrs, 123mm in total. With cleanup to come feeling 60 to 70%
Our local school floods often during heavy rain, today I was uncovering and ditching out drains, do you think the traffic slowed down or passed wide? of course they didn’t. Flooding never occurred when I was there 45 years ago, the school caretaker spend hours each day sweeping leaves and the council emptied the drains.
I live on a big estate and honestly when i tell you we actually have people walking around with grabbers picking up rubbish especially away from drains so thankfully our roads are always clear of water... i would send a bill to the environment agency xx
Well done Olly we have the same situation with waterways in our area.
With all the shows and all the other farm tours bbc news agricultural influences farming mental health awareness charity fundraising factor tours from ground to plate helping so many And so much with banter with our other guys aka tom Pemberton information and entertainment so much to take from olly and so much we should give back to not only support him but his good causes sometimes the little things mean the most he just reminded me the clock goes back 😂😂😂😂😂
Watched to the end. Good points put over well by you and Minette. 90% here in wet Norfolk, where we've had floods and get more rain this evening
Good video 👍 80% quite a bit of rain here today.
Our roads dept up here must be the same ratio of workers to pen pushers. They cut the verges and banks mostly on corners now they don’t do the whole road anymore, the ditches get blocked, the water runs down the road then the overflowing ditches make the road an ice rink and then the gritters end up in the ditch blocking the road too 🤦♂️
Water water everywhere not good with the flooding. If the water ways were cleaned out this would reduce flooding. 75% today how are you today Olly
Nothing gets maintained now regarding gulleys, streams etc .More and more houses get built creating more surface water that’s main problem.
Morning Olly, what crap you and all Farmers have to put up with, just so all waterboard/rivers agency’s get their fat bonuses at the end of year!!! Think You, Tom and Ginger should go to your local environment office and bang some heads together with grass and corn bills to replace, 80 percent oh morning to your work colleagues 👍🍻
Ollie, ive been watching your vlogs for some time now, your take on flooding and the importnce of dredging is spot on.
I am a life long user and supoorter of the River Weaver in cheshire. I operte the 120 year old steam ship Daniel Adamson on there now at or near the maximum draft and its a constant struggle.
The river is in flood at the moment and this is the third time since 2019 for a so called 1 in a 100 yer event.
The river is dredged but only spot dredged by the canal and river trust who now say they only dredge for navigational purposes, they are not a flood authority.
Now the river isn't getting the full dredge it used to the effects are there for all to see, all that is apart from the EA who you know try to avoid the issue.
Would love to make contact for a chat about this, the local cllrs nd MPs are doing all they can.
Keep up the great work.
Dan
... I sadly got obsessed with the late R D Toosey's mantra... Keep off when wet....we clashed.
However, your opening statement in this edition was absolutely 1st class....regarding your assessment of the current state of government agencies. .
I farm in north west Lincolnshire. On Friday we had 68mm. Lots of lakes on fields. A lot of re drilling wheat, is likely feeling about 62%
Year's gone by they used to dredge all the rivers
Olly for a future NFU president? You’ve a lot of common sense and good understanding of the industry
Fingers crossed the nfu can work it out. It wont be an easy fix but its great to see its actualy being looked at and sorted out. Fingers crossed it works
I will back the NFU community. And also hope James gets well soon. 👌✋️
They do ours locally in this part of the Highlands. Unusual though
Those ditches need cleaning out……Tom Pembertons in the same boat… blocked ditches 😳
I hope the weather gets better so it is hard to get a crop with so much water around.
The rivers are not maintained properly anymore because unfortunately wildlife is considered more important than farms and houses.
If we want a level playing field with the rest of europe and the world , lets get rid of farm assurance altogether, plenty of safe guards for food safety without it ! and why when we have a farm inspection /audit is information from previous years not stored to make things simple ? love the videos olly !
Lovely to see the barn owl, the floods, not so much
Cracking vid hope you are well nice to know Oliver watch's you he's a magition
I live in the middle of town on high street and have been trying to get the drains cleaned for over a year when it rains we get a lake between the speed ramps from 6 to 8 inches cars splash it up the shops and houses plus pedestrians 80%
I hope James is feeling better soon. Driving past on Friday afternoon I nearly got stuck at Ablets it was that deep! I wasnt in a Claas unfortunately 😂. Your field looked like Martin Mere 🦆🦆 🦆 The EA seem about as useful as UU. Are the shareholders taking massive dividends
Owl box, kestrel box, what's the difference ! They are happy to use second hand and nest at least 30 ft up.
Those pumps are from B&Q by the looks ! Totally inadequate given the drain can easily take more now !
Tom Pemberton and his Dad had problems with drainage and council .
I cannt remember what they did , but yhey did do something .you mit contact them .
Been hearing all over uk . Westher farms or in towns .
Good luck .
Hi Olly wise words about the environment agency how there’s not enough people on the ground to do the work All right look at a computer model and saying the water is going to do this where in real life it does something completely different 😊😊40%
Red Tractor - As an "ordinary civilian" I thought it was just another marketing thing; maybe that's the source of your problem if lots of other people thought that too?
Hi Olly....I've watched your videos since the start and think you do an amazing job of educating people on the good times and harsh times of farming. Being a farmer myself it's tough at times keeping the positiveness going when dealing with weather..prices..volatility...stress etc....what does annoy me though with the nfu is they seem very good at talking the talk...but not so good at getting things stopped or changed for the good of farmers. Having lived and worked on the farm since as young as I can remember....I reckon these are the hardest times farming has seen. Unfortunately I don't have any answers other than we need to have friends to talk to and help each other in these tough times..
Hi Olly regarding the recent flooding problems we have had over the past few days, the Environment Agency and Councils are just not fit for purpose I live in Derbyshire and if I walk round my area, the amount of grids and drains that are blocked is unacceptable, they allow undergrowth and weeds just grow out of control, anywhere, it makes you wonder what the taxes we pay actually do, just pay their wages maybe
I'm guessing that plaque is from Snowball Engineering who is a farmer who has a RUclips Channel. Ollys Farm are looking for a classic Deere..
Villages near here had notices up last year asking locals to clear out road drains if they saw a blocked one rather than the council cleaning them all
Made it to the end. We had 70 mm of rain in cork Ireland. There are 5000 acres of corn crops uncut. What to do next
We had a lot of flooding in Dundee yesterday, the burn at the end of my street burst its banks luckily my house was just out of harm’s way
Great video olly that’s serious water I hope your crops will be ok I’m 85%today
77% today. I think it very sad and painful that you and others are planting crops and trying to run your business but others, namely EA are not keeping water courses clear to prevent flooding. Anyway another informative video, so thanks for that. Loved the wildlife part.
Gonna be a shame to see the 7710 go, but I do understand the decission. Is it the same field the OSR straw floated off?
Olly, merlo, merlo, merlo please 😂😂😂😂
Every winter we see towns and farm land flooded, when will the government learn. Waterways need maintenance. Great to see the barn owl, hope theres plenty of food for it. 85% today.
cudnt agree more i remember pembertons saying lack of maintaince in there ditches its a dirty word now maintaince shareholder profits come first....😡 yet our bills keep going up ......
Good vid again . What were the green tanks at Puffin prod ? that was your quiz question .
Up with me the council do clean parts of the ditches down the sides of the road
Have to get Rob to fix your new John Deere 😂wish i had somewhere to keep your 77 shes tidy
Slugs and snail's because I offtern put them in the water but and the birds l9ve a free meal 😂😂😂
Up here in Diggle they’re building houses on a field that floods every time it rains. So where’s all that water going to go? Probably down to your fields 🤬🤯
Did the same in Tewkesbury then there’s a big outcry when all the houses get flooded each year
@@gilliantovey1014 it’s ridiculous. The environment agency stopped them from building a school on the land. It makes you suspect back handers
👀🙄🐾👍Good luck with hoping the NFU will achieve anything
How much are you wanting for the JD 7710 and would you be willing to export overseas
More maintenance 40 years ago but no bullshit as today
WELL, SAID.👍
Yes I love your videos we haven’t had big rain because I’m down near to claksons farm I’ll have a 7810 for FREE 😂
watched all the way through, ditches arent being dug and kept clear but councils let houses be built on natural flood plains bloody country is broken, we need a revolt
When I left school @ 16 farm every year after Christmas me and Peter cleaned half the farm ditchers out 1 year the other year no flooding 12:54
No rain here in Abu Dhabi. 95% today, went a saw some friends and caught up on some tasks. I do worry how inefficient government is now a days, I just feel it will get worse and worse if Labour get in
