As Preemo said, Gang Starr never had a platinum plaque but what they did have is the platinum respect across the culture. From the East all the way to Cali. From spending time with D.I.T.C. members, Pun, Biggie and Wu members to partying with Pac and Treach.

This album is truly the “Cream of the Crop.” Great review, Ahmad.
Before this release, Gang Starr hadn’t dropped an album since 1994’s “Hard to Earn.” During the four-year gap from 1994 to 1998, both Guru and DJ Premier pursued different projects. Premier continued to craft high-quality, top-notch beats at an elite level, while Guru worked on Jazzmatazz Vol. 2, an album blending hip hop and jazz.
Given the four-year hiatus, it could have been challenging for the duo to regain their groove. Such breaks can sometimes strain the relationship between an artist and producer, but Premier and Guru proved they hadn’t lost their touch.
It’s also worth noting that Guru was dealing with a legal issue involving a gun charge during this time. If convicted, he could have faced up to five years in prison. This led to a lot of back-and-forth between the studio and the courthouse, which is why the album cover features a courthouse background. You can sense Guru’s frustration in the track “Moment of Truth,” almost as if he’s declaring that no one can take him down.
Despite the challenges, this album is a classic from start to finish. It was also Gang Starr’s first album to go gold.

The Militia song, Freddie Foxx did the last verse, he was part of the DITC crew (Diggin' In The Crates) which was Diamond D, OC, Big L, Lord Finesse, Showbiz & AG, Fat Joe, and Buckwild officially, but related non-members were Pete Rock, Organized Konfusion, and others.
You should REALLY check out OC's album Jewelz, absolute underground classic

I wanna highlight on the song “Royalty” the singers are K-Ci and Jojo from the group “Jodeci”. They are the most overlooked duo when featured on tracks by multiple reactors. From Pac’s “How do you want it” and others no respect on their name. Outside of that this was the album that made me a Gangstarr fan.

Kc & jojo( jodeci) are the ones killin it on royalty.Real hip hop heads know gangstarr is one of the greatest duos to ever do in hip hop.imo this album is on the same level as illmatic, the chronic, ready to die,all eyes on me 36 Chambers ect. There isn't a bad track on it and I think it's their best album they ever put together. Plus guru was going through possibly facing jail time and drinking way too much booze and they took about a 8-month hiatus about 3-4 songs into making the album cuz guru had to get sober and finish up his legal troubles. And they put together a masterpiece!
