    This is a short video edited down to 27 minutes. The engine was in good condition, but I wanted and improve the engine to withstand stress during race track and drag race.
    Engine block was drilled up to the new 86,5mm pistons and surface grounded. Cylinder heads were also surface grounded.
    Mounted Tomei 1,5mm oil restrictor to decrease the amount of oil to the cylinder head, which again leads to increased amount of oil in the oil sump.
    Made an extra oil return from the rear of the cylinder head, with a return hose below oil level in the sump, so that the oil flows faster down to the sump, and cannot be pumped up again (siphon principle).
    Mounted new Nismo main and rod bearings that are a little stronger than the original bearings. Oil clearings where all checked to 0,038mm. Thrust bearing clearance checked to less than 0,1mm, more than 0,05mm.
    New CP Carrillo 86,5mm forged lightweight pistons and Eagle forged H-beam rods with ARP 2000 rod bolts. Piston rings where filed to the correct gap, according to the sheet that came with the pistons: 1st ring 0,45mm , 2nd ring 0,55mm , oil rings 0,35-0,45mm.
    Re-used the Tomei Pon cams, 269 in and 252 ex, both with 8,9mm lift. Valve clearance where checked to 0,4mm in and 0,35 ex.
    Re-used the Nismo oil pump. I measured a total clearance to the crankshaft drive of 0,35mm (0,175mm on each side). Hope, and think, this is good enough for this power when keeping the rev limiter to max 8000rpm.
    New original NPT water pump.
    New ARP studs to keep the cylinder head and gasket tight.
    New Tomei metal head gasket with 1,5mm thickness (0,3mm over size) to keep the original compression ratio.
    New Tomei intake manifold metal gasket, throttle body metal gaskets and exhaust gaskets.
    New Nismo thermostat that opens at 62’C. It’s easier to keep it cold than cooling it down when it’s too hot ;-)
    Re-used the Greddy Grex oil cooler and oil cooler sandwich with thermostat.
    Re-used the HKS exhaust manifolds, but had to re-weld them because of cracks.
    Re-used the HKS 2530 ball bearing turbo’s.
    New Gates Racing timing belt, idler and tension wheel. Also see how I centred the CAS and CAS bracket in the "7: Timingbelt" -section. This is important. If not in centre, it could lead to bearing failure in the CAS or even crack.
    Filled oil in the oil pick-up to check the oil feed to the bearings, cylinder head and turbo’s.
    Oil pan where custom made to increase the oil amount about 1,7 litters, like “wings” on both sides. They do not go all the way down, to make the oil pick-up the lowest place in the sump. Also mounted Nismo baffle plates to keep the oil where the oil pick-up is, to prevent the oil pump sucking air which could lead to catastrophe.
    Re-used the OS Giken triple plate clutch and flywheel.
    New Nismo engine mounts.
    Re-used Greddy large intercooler and piping, Apexi Power FC ECU, Apexi boost control valve, Greddy / Denso 720cc injectors, 2 x 300ZX Z32 MAFS, Greddy air filters, ground wiring kit and Apexi exhaust system.

    Alot of people dont realise that the rb26dett is a racing block that is internally braced, the 2jz is not. Fantastic motor. Incredible craftsmanship.

    • @olah002
      @olah002 3 года назад

      Just out of curiosity, what do you mean by internally braced? Are you referring to the fact that the crank shaft uses a girdle instead of individual main caps?

    I’ve watched many videos on RUclips. This though was one of the most satisfying as you went through literally everything to rebuild the heart of a GTR. I’d never fool myself into thinking I’d do something like that though 😂. Your craftsmanship is spot on like something out of an anime 😂

      That doesn’t mean they should. When performance is the goal, blueprinting of the engine is required. I didn’t see any measurements taken, so if learning is what you want. Then this isn’t where you should go.

    • @maxmekkker
      @maxmekkker  6 лет назад +4

      @@infamyseemsshort yes that's correct. This is not a "how to" video. I wouldn't recommend a any body to do this without experience.

    • @samsonian
      @samsonian 5 лет назад

      infamyseemsshort true. A channel I have found recently where the production of the videos is geared toward showing the proper way to put together an engine with blueprinting and all the insanity it entails is Subi-Performance. Top-shelf work and top-shelf equipment building top-shelf motors (at different levels of tune, which is cool to watch the difference).

      GoodeZilla: no I didn't. My last engine build before this one was a Nissan CA18DET engine. I got everything balanced with that engine, but it was not really much to do as it was all most in perfect balance. But it feels good to have done it. On the other hand, I think Nissan did a good job when they built it 😉 If you should decide to balance it, you should also balance the crank with pulley and flywheel. Good luck with your project! I'm so looking forward to seeing your videos 😀👍 And of course, just ask if I can help you with anything! I will tell you if I'm only guessing 😉

    • @Goodezilla

      Inge Hildebrand Thank you for the answer! I'll probably be getting in touch with you with little weird questions haha. For example...I see you disconnected the transmission before taking the motor out. Was that difficult? Did you have a transmission jack? Did you have help? :) Thank you again!

    • @maxmekkker
      @maxmekkker  7 лет назад

      Yes do that!
      Yes I disconnected the gearbox first, mostly because my garage isn't long enough, but also because the lifter was not big enough. It was not too difficult. I first tok out both engine mounts, so the engine got lower, and only then I could reach the 2 top bolts on the gearbox, and the top bolt on the starter motor.
      I used a standard stand too kip the front of the gearbox up. The mounts on the gearbox was all most holding the gearbox up by it self.
      I took the engine out and in by my self, without help. I got some help from my wife to lift on the cylinder head and standing on the break pedal when I torqued the crank bolt.

    Hey man, I just thought I'd drop a quick comment here. I think you'll find setting up your ring compressor a little looser will result in you being able to knock the pistons in a lot more easily. I set mine up at work so that with 3 or 4 taps from the handle of a hammer or mallet will knock them in. It takes a fraction of the time that way for each piston too. As long as you support the ring compressor so it doesn't jump around, you'll never damage a ring on the way in...Just a little tip. I'm a mechanic, race engine builder and Skyline owner myself ;)

    • @maxmekkker
      @maxmekkker  7 лет назад +1

      Daniel Brealey Thanks! The pistons wasn't that hard to push down, but you are probably right anyway. It sounds like I'm hitting harder than I actually did, because the camera picked up the sound to good ;-) I'm not a engine builder by profession ;-)

    You might want to consider safety glasses, especially under the hood when the motor is running. My work requires them all the time and found them uncomfortable at first but now I feel naked working without them. If a belt breaks or hose sprays hot oil in your eyes, it would be terrible. Also, make sure you have a fire extinguisher close by, especially in a garage with wood walls. A friend that I grew up with, died under a car in his garage when fuel ignited. Having safety glasses on in such a situation might allow you to maintain vision and escape. Simple safety steps can drastically improve your chances of survival.

      JunkmanJim : Thanks for your advice. Sorry for your friend. I always have a fire extinguisher nearby, but I seldom use safety glasses. But I always do a risk evaluation before start. I've worked as an mecanik for all most 25 years now, and I've taken some damage too eye's and hands...

    very nice and congratulations on doing this yourself. i am building a rb30/26 and its starting to frustrate me as i have not done this type of conversion before nor have i ever worked on nissan skyline engines before. you make this look so easy LOL :) best of luck and keep the good videos going.

      Thanks. Yes I guess that's a bit more work. I've done some engines, but not many, and this is my first RB engine. I've worked as a mechanic at a Nissan workshop fore some years. Good luck with your project!

      Take your time make sure you got all the torque numbers(and tools) oh when putting bearings in like the crank and conrod make sure they are in correctly.

    This is the type of engine build video I like. No music, no voice over just work and the nice clicking noise from the torque wrenches. One question, why didn't you wrap your turbo's or the manifold? I keep going back and forth on whether I should wrap mine on my VG30dett.

    • @maxmekkker
      @maxmekkker  6 лет назад +1

      John Sumner : Thanks 😀 . If wrapped between the manifold and the heat shield the wrap gets wery hot, and can melt. I notised that with my previous build. I want to use the heat shield too keep a stock appearance. Wrapped is the best solution to keep the surroundings cold. VG30DETT is an amazing engine 👍
