Whoever says they hate weed whacker Honda engines needs to have a little more respect. A properly tuned B series engine is impressive, and sounds amazing. Some clips from this video sent chills down my spine. I never had the opportunity to build my own B series, but I’ve ridden shotgun several times in friends cars with B swapped engines. It’s amazing.
My grandad was an engineer for equipment at Honda. Spent alot of time working in Indiana and North Carolina for Honda. My family has owned Hondas since 1977. And I love Hondas more than myself, and I'm getting a DC2 Integra GSR in a month with the B18C and I'm extremely excited. But I'll say just one thing: Honda Intake sound > Honda Exhaust sound
That's awesome man, my family's been into Honda since 1982. It all started when my grandad bought a brand new brown '82 Accord 5 speed manual (which we still have to this day, and it still runs!). My dad, who used to be soley a GM guy, was at first confused as to why he bought it, but quickly understood when he felt that buttery smooth transmission and powersteering. After that, went into researching the company, eventually learning about their involvement in Formula 1 and got first glance of their reliability when an old Acura Vigor was getting serviced. It had supposedly gone without oil or a checkup in years, and the motor still ran! Ever since then, he's owned nothing but Honda products: a silver '88 CRX SI, a milano red '95 Del Sol VTEC (which came with the B16 from factory and is currently being restored), a black EM1 SI, a '03 CL Type s 6MT, a '05 S2000 and a red '02 RSX Type S (see my profile pic, it's my daily), with the exception of the occasional rental car and a '01 Jetta GLS Turbo. Oh and btw, I'm more of a B Series guy myself, they just have that more crude and raw sound that I like better than the K series.
Daffa Romero carful with that I bought a 92 hatch and had a B18c cold air intake headers nice exhaust he wanted a lot of money was able to talk him down a bit drove fine couple things raise a red flag anyways I brought it to a performance shop and there was a lot wrong with it wasn’t tuned properly at all was just thrown together and I expected that you can’t trust that anyone knows what there doing when they build a car so I payed the money and had it re chipped and t7ned properly goes way faster and feels great with the mo eh I’ve spent getting it to sound the way it does it would have been cheaper to buy a generation of civic I like and order everything I wanted to put in it and have someone tune the puppy up maybe not cheaper likely a bit cheaper but at least I’d know it was done proper and not t9 much wear and tear run thru it even tho the engine was new-ish had almost 9000 km on her if I were to do it again I’d have one built for me if I had the funds to so again .....at least the headache factor of knowing exactly what has been done to it over not knowing a damn thing about what’s been done to it and how they did it Ike a lot of ppl do just rig the damn thing together and I hate that I’m the kind guy that that would just piss me off I like things done the professional way hand have it all nicey nice when it’s done.....which it is
The reason Honda is hated is because of the majority of Hondas are ricers that ruin these cars. Tune properly a Civic, go to a car meet and people will think you are a ricer when you're not
Kevin I right, that is actually a spoon setup, I found the original video. Takes a lot of engineering to make a power and that lasts from 6000-11000rpm, it may not increase after 8000 but it doesn't drop off like you'd imagine.
Nope. B16A2 with the limiter removed. The dude was just showing that a stock B16A2 can rev to 11k. It can't reliably, not without valvetrain and oil system upgrades.
They sound amazing in the cockpit, even the D-series. I’m not a fan of the sound that comes out the muffler of the B’s and D’s though. I own a Civic CXi D16Y4 and I love the sound that the engine makes at around 6.5k RPM! 😍
Hennessey Viper Venom to me from experience the b series motors had a little more torque I know cause I had k20 swap eg coupe and gave it to my sister so I can build a b16 eg hatch which I still have and lives to this day 😁
if youre gonna swap it why dont u just buy the car with the engine u want already in it. they all weigh around the same area. if you want a k20 get a dc5. the type r is a classic car man, dont ruin it
These farts embarrassed so many engines and the vtec is the best creation in the automotive history it gives you good mileage and power at the same time the B16 makes 182hp from a 1.6 (as the name of the engine suggests) 4 banger a toyota 3RZ is a 2.7 4 banger and it makes 160 and it has 1.1 more liters but the only thing that honda engines don’t have is tourqe it’s so pathetic but luckily the cars that used these types of engines are very lightweight so you wouldn’t need a lot of tourqe
You obviously know nothing about engines, and those who make them. Honda never made any V 16 or 18 cylinder engines. Those were four-cylinder engines in that clip.
I beg to differ on that one. I’ve lived with a mechanic for over a decade. So I do know what I’m talking about. That was exactly what I was trying to point out, if you had read my earlier, comment more carefully. There really is a such thing as a V16 engine, as in a V engine with 16 cylinders. What I was trying to point out is that it is stupid of Honda to give an engine that model designation, because it is too easily confused with the actual engine configuration. That is, unless they’re pointing to the fact that the engine has 16 valves, with four valves per cylinder. But there really is a such thing as a V16 engine, but it’s extremely rare to find one under the hood of a car. Most of the time you find them on trains, boats, or even very heavy duty construction equipment. Haven’t you ever heard of the Cadillac 16 concept car? They never put it into production, but back in the 1930s and 40s, Cadillac limousines had a 16 cylinder engine. In fact, I knew someone who actually owned general Douglas, MacArthur‘s limousine after the war.

can i ask which is the best engine of honda B16 b18 K20 k20a2?
Danny DANI I am also interested
For all motor k series, b series seem to make more power with turbos tho
As Matt said, K20 are the best all motor and B16/B18 are better with turbo and they rev a shit ton as well
B16
I like K20 myself, personal preference. B series are better when turbo'd though.
I want some help from you people. When i get my first car (I'm not even 18 yet) it will be a Civic, EK Type R hopefully. What engine should i put in?
bageli tsandila it depends on what your budget is and what your goals are (all motor or boost). b16b is pretty solid to me though.
