    Just had one in with the same issue, this video helped me enormously! I clammed the wrap around shell up and went in through the speaker holes to be able to reach the plugs. This unit had been rolling round in the boot of a car so think that may have caused the plug to come out.

    Your vid was a very informative find. I'm on my second with the same on/off issue. Both happened within 4 months of use. Amazon replaced the first no questions asked but the issue remained a mystery. Definitely a JBL QA issue. Now I guess I have to open mine up. But at least I know what to look for. Thanks.

    I had the battery unplugged on mine. This happened after the speaker flew off the back of a moving vehicle and the impact disconnected that plug. However there was no structural damage to the speaker itself besides some scratches and scuffs. This speaker is a beast and I vouch for its durability 100% once I connected the plug it was pumping like it never hit pavement at 15-20kmh

    Thanks for the video. It would be helpful to say which side of the speaker the motherboard is on. Also, I got mad and just ripped my side panels off. At this point it shouldn't take me an hour to try and turn it when it doesn't want to turn, and everyone else does it like its a baby toy. You'd think they would have some type of ring to help open the side panels. I butchered mine with pliers and a flathead.

      Hello! This is a copy a paste response. Please read fully if you are still searching for an answer to this solution. I am currently having this problem. First, let's check the serial number located in the port section of the JBL Boombox. If it starts with ND, most likely the process in the video will not help. For this model you will need to pry it off. Consumer discretion is advised as I have not done this process yet and am unfamiliar with how it will feels/looks like. I highly recommend more research before committing to the act. For those without the ND model, the process is not clearly described in the video. Your goal is to remove the opposite ring side using friction from the "normal force" of the surface of your choosing. Choose your surface wisely, it should be flat, grippy and dry. NOW, you can clearly visualize what the videos instructions are. You are not trying to remove the ring facing you but the one underneath. With the JBL Boombox upright, sitting on the subwoofer side you will need to apply pressure and rotate it anti-clockwise. BE WARNED. This requires quite an amount force. Hope this helps you in your endeavor internet stranger.

    • @JonnyFix

I can't remember the battery voltage when full but if you have a way to test the battery and you have 0 volts then you need a new battery, if less than 7 volts then it might need to be plugged in for some time before it shows charging and if no change after a couple hours or if already > 8volts then maybe a fault in the charging circuit.

      I think if you push down too hard while turning it can work against you as the ring comes away from the case as it turns so it's a balance between force and grip of the ring to the surface it's on.

I didn't realize how tinny and awful the sound output on the original Echo was until we replaced it with the Studio. It was a sonic upgrade far beyond what I was expecting. Just wow. I love it because it's like having speakers IN the shower. My friend likes it because the music is so loud that she can no longer hear me singing. So that's a win-win.

    I've got a BOOMBOX open now. Was going to order a battery but I want to verify first. The charger is putting 20v into the main board but how can I confirm that the right voltage is coming out of the 8-pin battery connector. With the battery UNPLUGGED there is NO voltage across the red/black wires and about 2.8v across the Blue/white. Anybody know what to look for at the 8-pin connector?

    • @JonnyFix
      @JonnyFix  4 года назад +1

      If I had to guess I think the blue/white are for temperature sensing. If there's nothing on red/black the battery has probably shut down from being discharged too low (or some other failure). If you have an adjustable power supply try applying a voltage with a current limit of about 200mA across it while unplugged from the board and see if it wakes up the battery, if you can't limit the current put an ammeter in series and wind the voltage up until you see about that much. If this works then it's deeply discharged so keep increasing voltage to maintain that current until you hit about 6 or 7V. If a voltage remains on the terminals at that point you might be able to plug it back in and let the system charge it the rest of the way. On the other hand if it doesn't draw any current up to 8V you may need that new battery.

    • @mikeskory3157
      @mikeskory3157 4 года назад

      @@JonnyFix I'm following the battery check procedure just as you laid it out. I nursed the the power supply up to 7 volts while staying under 200ma. I left it for 30 mins. The battery now holds a 6.5v charge. If I plug it back into the boom box (w/charger unplugged) it still will not turn on. I know the 20v power supply is good and I see 20v going into the motherboard. The problem then appears to be in the "motherboard". Correct?

    • @JonnyFix
      @JonnyFix  4 года назад +1

      @@mikeskory3157 that might still be too low to turn on. When plugged in does the charger continue to charge it? If not I'd manually charge it up to 7.6v then try again. You should be ok to charge at 500ma now. I think maximum charge is 8.4v, you want to ensure you don't exceed this at the battery terminals. It will be lower at the battery than at the power supply due to a drop in the wires.
