Thank you for this series, Jim! I'm learning about telecommunications services in my information technology class now, and my professor recommended that the students watch these videos over break. I don't understand all of the intricacies of the telecommunications industry, but your clear instruction has helped clarify some points and has introduced me to phone systems and terminologies that my textbook didn't explore.
Can you please provide us with the VoIP videos in details ? I watched your Telecommunications Basics Part videos, I got to learn lot of things from you.... Thanks for sharing / Posting the videos.... Hope to see many more videos from you.. Keep on rocking.. :)
We had a BRI service around 6-8 years ago and at another place around 10 years ago we had a BRI and that was when they were finally being pushed to people with no DSLAM in their area, the tech had been around for probably 20 years.
You talk about idiots not answering their phones, over here we have near the opposite in many cases where the idiots at the front desk answer the phone ignoring people in front of them. I was once told something wise about this, "remember the person on the phone is not the one who can reach out and bitch slap you silly for ignoring them". But when customers are out of the question I'm sure what you said happens a lot. It is good to see you cover both analogue (POTS), digital (ISDN etc) and VoIP (which is the black sheep of the family). Over here there is so much argument from fanboys of either conventional or VoIP that one is better than the other rather than one is more applicable to a certain job than another and it is annoying. VoIP has the most flexible options by far but is useless here in areas where the best internet speed is not much greater than BRI 2chan.
i love all the videos but i think using cloud based PBX is new way to go now. i have a customers that have this and its a nice way to go. the customer no longer needs to maintain equipment. its plug and play on there end and i can log into there virtual PBX from anywhere in the world to make changes to there system. i think the on site analog systems are a dying technology.

Surely PRI and BRI's have been around for years?
