  • Recently, Ghanaian dancehall artists Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale have faced criticism over their use of Jamaican Patois. Some fans and artists from Jamaica have accused them of speaking "fake" Patois. A notable incident involved a Jamaican woman publicly calling out Stonebwoy for struggling with the dialect during a live video interaction. Root Eye, a significant figure in Ghanaian dancehall, echoed these sentiments, stating that these artists often face ridicule in Jamaica for their attempts at Patois. He suggested that Ghanaian dancehall artists should focus on creating a unique Afro-Dancehall sound using Ghanaian pidgin. Despite these criticisms, some supporters believe that Stonebwoy speaks better Patois compared to Shatta Wale and acknowledge their contributions to the dancehall scene in Africa.
