  • In this episode of the CyberGizmo we explore how to stream Applications and entire desktop to a browser, whether its a desktop, tablet or phone. You can isolate your browser session to a Docker image and manage it all with Kasm Workspaces.

    Containers have to be the best software technology we've seen on Linux.
    Really takes Linux from a fringe OS alternative to a true competitor to the Mac and Windows dominance of desktop/office computing.

    Thanks for the Video! I had not heard of Kasm until now. I will give it a spin. My workflow has not changed much for the past 15 years with browser isolation. I simply just take an old laptop and boot it to a custom live image with VNC and web browser. I am not sure which method would be more labor intensive at this point, though i am always looking for new ways to streamline. thanks again!

    When I see "Kasm" I think of something KDE would name assembly language.

    Hi DJ, are you able to stream Windows desktop using kasm or just Linux? Awesome video!

    if it's completely Open source, what is holding you back to get rid of the 5 user restriction?

      Hi Marcel, if you read the License agreement you will notice two things, first it mentions a EULA which takes precedence over the term open source, second KASM is not completely open source. From their website: "Kasm Technologies is committed to supporting the open-source community, so we have made all of our Workspaces images and the Workspaces container streaming technology available on Docker Hub and GitHub."

      @@CyberGizmo ok thanks I see.. highly appreciated you took your time to provide this information. From what I can tell so far, they did a pretty good job on the VNC server (perhaps also client) feels as good as spice but should support GPU acceleration (ie Hardware decoding hence suitable for web browsing)

    This looks like an enterprise version of X2GO

    • @CyberGizmo
      @CyberGizmo  2 года назад

      I wouldn't compare it with X2G0. X2Go is a remote desktop viewer, and it requires a server and a client to work. KASM is much more than that, and doesn't need a specialized client, just a browser. X2Go to me is more of a VNC replacement.

      @@CyberGizmo @DJ Ware Right. Also X2Go (which I remember being a really good VNC replacement back in the day) heavily relies on X11, which is the past.

    Please comment the next: "Browsers nowadays became propriatary spyware. Doesn't matter where your run them. It's an OS inside other OS and we can't control what's going inside the app manager unless we stop using them. They can be compromised eventough no malware or maliciouse process are triggered - just one click in the wrong link and we are mirroing our screen to bad actors, through the right https port. Now do we have a leak in the graphical managers, in the browsers or polkits?" *The sound isolation should go in the ceiling in a circle format.

      I don't understand your question

      @@CyberGizmo I reed somewhere browsers could act as a secondary Operating System. What are you toughts about this regarding security and privacy (as for example in pegassus) . (The sound block isolation should be placed in the ceiling to prevent sound reflexion, supose that's what you're trying to achieve with the black blocks in diamond format and door) - some toughts about ipfire would be thankfull as well what are the best practice to use backup's to new linux users. Thanks for the knowledge sharing - much apreciated.

      @@G70P ahhh thank you for the clarification, I do not know as I have never investigated this, but I will promise to investigate it.
