    Oh wow!! I made this for dinner tonight (although I added some chicken thighs to poach with the veggies because my family would revolt if there was no meat, lol) it was amazing!!! Epic!! Even my son that avoids soup at all costs (I love soup so I make a lot) was slurping it up professing to love it!! Thank you Helen. I wish I would have remembered to take a picture.

    Hi Helen! I've been a subscriber for a while and love that you always try to show us how the dishes are originally made in Vietnam. I'm also Vietnamese and came to the States when I was 6, but I'm very proud of where I came from and I always try to share that in my love of cooking Vietnamese food. We've made many of your recipes at my house and my parents loved them! This specific episode made me feel a little sentimental because my mom will be making this dish for Tet this year (we like to eat vegan for the first week of Tet), and I'm currently away at college and will not be home for Tet this semester. Thank you for spreading the Vietnamese culture. I hope to have a youtube channel where I can share my recipes one day too. Maybe after college :)

    Chị ơi dùng táo + lê + đường phèn thì nước có bị ngọt quá ko chị? Bố em người miền Nam nhưng hầu như không thích nêm đường trong các món mặn ạ. E thường chỉ nấu súp chay với củ cải trắng củ cải muối, mướp hương và ít bông cải thôi. E muốn nấu công thức của c quá nhưng muốn hỏi lại c cho chắc ăn.
    Với cả mình dùng nước súp này cho bánh canh, nui chắc ok chị nhỉ?

    Hi Helen, I've noticed vietnamese Chay recipes always use leeks instead of garlic or spring onions, is theres special reason behind that?

    • @HelenRecipes
      @HelenRecipes  9 лет назад +3

      Buddhist vegetarians normally don't eat onion (and sometimes garlic, too) because these roots tend to excite senses. It's kinda religious reason

    Hi Helen. I've seen people cook with leeks in vegetarian dishes, why? What's wrong with regular scallions?

    • @HelenRecipes
      @HelenRecipes  9 лет назад +3

      +Amy Ngo scallion, onion and garlic are believed to excite senses, so Buddhist vegetarians tend to avoid them

    I always loves your recipes! But For some reason I think Vietnam looks more.. I do not know how to say it.. Filthy, compared to Japan, which is a shame, because I love Vietnamese food and culture, but because of (in this video) the floating marked looks to filthy I would not visit Vietnam.

    • @kimnguyen1227
      @kimnguyen1227 9 лет назад

      I agree. Vietnam is dirty, but I LOVE it that way. It makes life interesting (eating Pho/Huu Tieu on a boat isn't exciting, adventurous and cool???) and the people more resilient. On the other hand, Japan is a cool place but it seems too confined. Both are great places with great people. Just different.
