This makes me think of this one gentlemen I went to school with, he had very very bad acne and just wanted the redness to go down. He wore foundation to school every day! No one made fun of him, there was just a mutual respect, none of the boys at school gave him crap either. It was very sweet.

I agree with your message about we not needing gendered products/advertising. But honestly, biological men have a very different skin than biological women. And I don’t mean skin type (although both biological genders have many of those too) I mean that it’s a lot “tougher” (vs soft), more pores, thicker, ect. So we do need genderaised products in this instance.

@@garlic6405 like previously stated, it’s not just different skin types. The actual skin is different between biological females and males. That is why a lot of transgender people say, that when they start taking hormones, their whole skin changes.
So as much as I would like makeup not to be gendered, it is necessary in this instance. Yes, you could come up with a different way of saying it, but at some point we need to stop and think if THAT is necessary. For example, a lot of Caucasian people feel like they can’t even say “black” or “Asian” anymore when referring to skin color/ethnicity. Instead they say “darker skinned” and “person of color”. Stating a fact is not offensive. It’s the context that you use the words in, that matters. Being overly “politically correct” is not a solution for other people’s biases.

Focusing a cosmetics line on a certain type of look that people want is great, but you're 100% right in that learning how to apply it to get those results is super-important. Otherwise, the new companies featuring these products isn't going to do as well as they could.

I did notice that there are short tutorials on the page showing how to apply the products, which is a great idea.

@@recyclops229 oh I don't mean they can't or anything, I just mean pushing makeup before skincare is a vicious cycle for the best of us and I know guys who would absolutely not wash this off appropriately. My brother wears pore tightener something and BB cream but just... layers it like three days in a row. Some people can't be trusted with the responsibility! Guess who got face wash, moisturiser and a washcloth for Christmas...

I think makeup is so gendered right now, that the "for men" is necessary to appeal to men who don't think it can be for them. They can branch out once they don't need to have their ego soothed.

Certain "Manly men" aren't going to buy makeup that looks too feminine and probably avoiding being found in the makeup isle. It's seems like a smart way of transitioning into something till it's normal.

The tax part of the pink tax is that's more expensive because it's for girls/women. In this case it's not more expensive, it's just targeting an audiance. They want to target the people that nobody in makeup industry touch

oh for sure. however, having listened to what both welsh brothers have said about men in beauty spaces, this company probably wanted to find the manliest man to showcase their product. unfortunately there is still a stigma in certain male dominated spaces that wearing a bit of tinted moisturizer makes you gay.

Ew no! I mean I like their techniques and tips but they do wayyyy too much. Lipstick, filling brows etc. I’m sure guys just wanna look like themselves but better, not having dark brows and lashes lmao

you should watch Robert Welsh or Wayne Goss, they are men with beards who do make up, maybe you find some help there...but probably you don't need make up, you are already beautiful ❤

I can't tell if it's the lighting in the video but his skin prior to using the makeup looked fine, good even. He doesn't seem to need it! And yes, you're looking gorgeous in 4k. ❤️
Edit: I'm guessing they hired someone who is conventionally attractive so that even if the product isn't applied expertly, he won't look silly.

I don't really like makeup sponges, I find they always leave a texture. I prefer brushes for everything. I was hoping he was just going to use his fingers, because I feel like that wouldn't be as streaky.
The faces at his application techniques are me when I look at my bank account. This was entertaining plus educational about makeup like always, made my day.
That anti-shine powder reminds me of the times I would pretend to put on makeup at age five, with baby powder dusted and rubbed onto my face (I saw an old black and white movie once where a lady used a powder puff on her face, and just filled in the blanks on what kind of powder that must have been). Also, that sponge dragging, oh my goodness, I usually scrub like that when I wash the dishes, not putting anything on my face...
His head looked photoshopped onto his body at the end 🤣 I'm glad that so many men have found confidence in it though 😃

There is an in-depth. professional RUclips video from 'By Carlisle' where he applies Warpaint correctly and has problems with blending and the colour range if you want a look. Love the shade of blue eyeshadow you've used. Fab

minor point but Marylin actually smothered her skin in vaseline, she loved a bit of a glow too! her makeup was very tailored to what worked on film.

I'm actually using some of their lightest tinted moisturizer. I have a patch of sun damage on my face that is darker than the rest of my skin. I wouldn't be afraid to use make-up marketed to women, but this popped up and there weren't a lot options and since I don't know what I'm doing - it was fairly easy.
I moisturize heavily with another product. I just use this to blend my sun damage.

I 100% agree with all points, and I do think they should have given him some tutorials before getting him to do this video. But, I do have to say, if we all think where we are now with makeup compared to where we started, we've been where he is. He needs help but I'm all here for men wearing makeup and being confident!!!

15:30 - Well, at least the dark shade is actually dark I would say. I remember the 'old days'' or more like ten years ago, when I was a teen (Germany, so not that huge amount of darkskinned people, but enough) when the darkes colour of affordable make up was like ... between the third and fourth colour on that range from war paint

I think "war paint" is a fantastic marketing idea for selling make-up to men who may otherwise be nervous about using make-up if they wanted to. While I typically find gendered marketing extremely unnecessary, I do think that this particular marketing strategy and branding may aid in bridging the gender expression gap for those who aren't necessarily ready to dive in head first to typically feminine things yet still desire to explore that.
If they were pretending that this branding made it something that it isn't I'd find it a bit unnecessary and weird, but they aren't. I love that it opens the door to popularize a masculine style of make-up application (I have wanted to explore drag, but finding good masculinizing make-up method instruction is very difficult). If this brand adds skin care to their products as well (similarly to Neutrogena make-up for example), they can work with creating products that target skin issues that come with male specific hormones like testosterone - I have elevated testosterone unfortunately, a mtf cousin, an aunt with PCOS, a ftm friend and HATE hearing that men and women aren't different - if they weren't different at all then a large number of medical disorders wouldn't exist (gender expression shouldn't matter as much as it does, but I hear that extended to mind and body from small groups of people annoyingly)... I think this targeted branding could do a lot of good in closing the gap between masculine and feminine societal roles and help young kids better explore their own interests and self care needs while they grow up.
Having been born in 1991 in northeastern Massachusetts, it is amusing (in a wonderful way) to see men use make-up who want to and not ger ridiculed, to such a point as to even release a men's make-up line. I love this "war paint - make-up for men" idea as it opens a lot of doors for people and society.

I don't mind this gender based advertisement because if it's what men need to help them step into the makeup world and feel confident and possibly help breakdown some gender stereotypes about makeup then I'm all for it. They just need genuine makeup artists to review it
