I guess she always try to make herself less sexual , same as scarlet Johansson, other women in Hollywood try to be sexual and beautiful as much as possible, these two ladies hide themselves, maybe because are terrified with rude sexualisation
Anya Taylor Joy is so 'cool' designers could really take risks when dressing her and she'd pull it off. I'm dying for her to do something really interesting. (To clarify I mean cool in an effortless quirky girl kind of way, not in a trendy way)
Agreed. I think her characters are interesting, and her overall look is interesting. But she may just be the antithesis of that in her real life - no insult meant.
Luke’s expansive knowledge, and insightful evaluation brings something refreshing and progressive to his fashion reviews that are in stark contrast to the award show fashion reviews that I grew up watching. I found those shows often times used their platforms as a way to demean and bully masked as “critiques.” They were also incredibly out of touch and not always inclusive. They also often dehumanized the people wearing the clothing and I did not find myself coming away with anything of value. With Luke, while yes, there is humor and accountability, and constructive critiques in his content, his approach is almost like the science and history of fashion and whether or not it did the person wearing it justice. While his approach and methodology is deliberate, he manages to eloquently cover an expansive, inclusive list of celebrities and recognizes effort and provides credit when due without having to call it out or bring unnecessary attention to the fact that he does this. And he does it exceptionally well. I appreciate that he does not tokenize certain people as I have seen done by other mainstream media. I don’t know if I managed to articulate what I really want to say well, but Luke, you are a treasure, job well done. Thank you the incredible amount of work you put into all your work but especially the fast turnaround during award shows.

Even when I disagree with him, I still see where he's coming from. I love fashion and love that Luke is teaching us about the history and fashion/art references along with the current looks. ❤️ So glad I found this channel!
A very tall slender person...yes, Zendaya, 5' 11" would carry this complicated gown Jenna, too petite at 5' 1" to carry it off, she is drowning in fabric.
Letitia Wright's dress is so interesting. It reminds me of African hand-dyed linen fabrics with that mix of organic orange and brown dyes, as if the orangey-clay colored dye over saturated in spots to create a deeper, rusty brown. The undyed portions aren't quite as uniform as, but remind me of Senegalese stitch-restist dying, where the gathered portions resist adopting the dye. A more complex look than it appears at first glance.
I felt very underwhelmed by the outfits at the golden globes - not very many "wow" moments for me! Also the fact that the carpet was sopping wet and all the gowns hems were soaking up the water was super unfortunate!

As a lanky tall girl with similar issues, I feel for her lol. We don't work well with a lack of structure or strapless. I love love loveeddd Jenna's look- and I loved the way she seemed to be enjoying the dramah of the huge sleeves- when people look like they're really enjoying their outfit it's so much better. The colour (with the hair) made her skin glow, it was such a simple but effective contrast to the blacks she's been in recently. I'm getting goddess vibes. Letitica wright also looked incredible in the colours of her dress- makes me so happy when the designers tweak the colour to complement the person wearing it. and Luke- I saw the christiano sirano for billy porter look and new who'd made it immediately- does that make it a house code now :P those dior dresses look like they just wrapped the fabric around the actresses a few times- enough to get the baggy shapeless effect and then tied them up with a ribbon 😂😂 I wonder what they were going for tbh? and margot robbie's dress looks like a knock version of the runway- the fringe is jsut giving me such strong DIY vibes- what on earth are the big houses up to? Also, I know you loved the straps on Hannah Redmayne's dress- but to me it looked like they'd stretched out and it had started falling down- the fit is flawless so I know it's not, just the 'usual' line would be higher up and the straps were really giving me that vibe
Its Chanel but the fact is Margot clearly has no taste. This has been ongoing for YEARS I went through most of your old videos she's always nearly a disaster. Kristen Stewart has been on that same Chanel train too and still manages to serve a look sometimes. I've seen other stars do good for them at times.
I don’t think it’s even that. There’s just certain body builds. Chanel is great for boxier shaped narrow women or short women but Margot has the typical athletic shape that doesn’t do well with too dainty or ornate fashions like Chanel. Chanel wants to attach itself to the blondes du jour to attract the markets that look like that (American suburban and Aussie markets) as it worked wonderfully for Dior: However, Chanel should’ve really tapped Ana de Armas whose body frame and look would work much better with the Chanel aesthetic. Her look also speaks to an often ignored look in wealthier circles, the brunettes since blonde is used as a status symbol. Ana is sexy, elegant and cute not as sporty (while sexy) that Margot had which would’ve spoken to way, way more people as more people value Ana’s look worldwide. Before you come for me you know I mean this respectfully and also looking at human nature and accounting for culture: With Ana, Chanel would’ve managed the brilliant move of attracting and appealing to three massive markets which is the European, the Latino and Asian markets. From a marketing standpoint Chanel would’ve thrown it out of the park if they did that. From a marketing standpoint Margot was a poor spokesperson choice because yes she manages to appeal to the wealthy blonde circuit that is most likely to have the money and interest in buying expensive clothing, perfume and makeup BUT Chanel failed to realize that these people not just have a particular coloring and facial features but body builds. These women are often tall, straight shaped/athletic and Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel managed their house aesthetic with the market they’re trying to make money from. If you want confirmation of this look up his work from the 90s-until he died, he managed to combine the Chanel DNA with the athletic European look to market to taller, blonder bodies like the Scandinavians, Aussies, Americans, Russians etc. But after he died Chanel went back to its traditional setting but the problem is the majority of the people in wealthier circles or that have money look like Margot. Hence why they went with that. But however their PR and marketing agents/agencies are took the goals and job too on the nose and failed to exhibit the creativity needed to properly steer the fashion world forward. They’re being dumb as honestly we are all realizing the Margot-Chanel is not a fluid marriage it looks awful since they couldn’t be more different synergistically. You can’t just just take in whatever’s popular blindly thinking it will work like they did in this case because Dior has had the tendency to align themselves with the athletic blonde aesthetic for the last 40 years or so if not more. If they wanted to keep the house DNA while still expanding they should’ve made it a bit more aspirational by picking someone like Ana or one of the Korean singers or both. They should’ve left Robbie to Dior and remove Ana from the Estee Lauder campaigns. With Ana, Chanel would get the sex appeal, popularity, and elegance as well as appealing to youth. Because of her cute looks Ana would appeal massively to the Asian markets as well and would also to the Latino market. It would inspire them to spend. But most of all it would be refreshing and new since we’re always seeing the same kind of people in these industries get promoted. Ana for Chanel would’ve sort of caused the shakeup the Kardashians did with media because they were different and unexpected but spoke to such a massive niche that they got attention. It wasn’t the rich or tv that put them there it was the people that were sick of seeing the same athletic rich blondes on tv all the time to the point you couldn’t tell the difference between any of them. Love it or hate them but that’s why the Kardashians got up there. People like novelty. So you could say the Chanel-Margot alliance is a big reflection of that, what happens when you fail to think outside the box and do more of the same. Another celebrity Chanel would’ve hit it out of the ballpark by patronizing would’ve been Julia Garner as she fits their aesthetic and has such a wonderful style. She also still looks familiar to the blonde suburbanites but is edgier more cool so she would’ve been a perfect transition and marriage between the typical and the fun gamine element Chanel had. She’s perfect for what Chanel has been trying to do with competing with Dior but it seems their PR leads are so slow when it comes to these things. Chanel has been trying to market to a younger, sexier audience so I think that’s what factored in their decision to pay Robbie the exorbitant sum they likely did (but honestly a really poor investment as it makes the house look bland and stupid tbh). Sorry for the length of this I’m just a big fashion fan like most of you, with a big appreciation for beauty but also understanding of marketing. It’s not often one finds an audience to have these conversations since so many look at a fashion or beauty interest as frivolous.
Yes but at Margots level of fame and income you pay someone to have taste for you. That's what all the people that actually look good at these events do.
@@wwaxwork She has a stylist. It's Kate Young so she's the one behind all of those looks. To me it seems like Margot really doesn't care much about fashion and she just wears whatever Kate puts her in
Margot just went back to her aggressor (aka Chanel). WHY? I loved that Carolina Herrera dress. So romantic and beautiful 😻 and loved Luke’s reaction to it ❤
They probably paid her bank. Chanel has been trying to rebrand itself as something the sexy girls wear except they really chose poorly with Margot as they cannot make something for her without abandoning their aesthetic. They slept on Anya Taylor Joy or Julia Garner and instead Dior is always beating them to the punch.
The Carolina Herrera black tulip skirt dress with the white bust overlay is probably one of the most stunning dresses I've seen in my entire life. It's tremendous in it's simplicity.
I love listening to you speak about the art, history, and the artists who influenced these current looks. Your passion for fashion is admirable. I've learned so much.
I love Billie Porter. Always such a joy🤩 Donald Glover looks like he threw on a tuxedo jacket on his way over from karate practice, and I LOVE it😍 I am actually enjoying this look on Rihanna. It is classy and regal. Two words that don't normally come to mind for me, regarding her style (sorry😔). I hope she continues this direction in wardrobe choices.
Why in the world this showed up in my feed is beyond me. I have zero fashion anywhere on anything that has anything to do with me. But you cracked me up. I loved listening to you. Thanks
Everything Everywhere All At Once was my fav movie so I was glad to see them winning awards! I wasn't sold on Her Majesty Yeoh's peplum until I see the video
Imma be honest, I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that Margot wore this dress to advertise herself as Barbie. The pink lace and feathers and sequins and crystals… all on a chevron that reminds of the original Barbie swimsuit. That’s what I assumed was the motive.
I love chevron, but that dress needed some contrast piping, getting rid of the lace and it could have still been Barbie. They should have done something big with her hair perhaps to sell the fantasy.
@@roselynmvm Unpopular opinion: I liked the fabric fold/pleating at the bust. They could have done the same exact original black dress in pink with the little sheer fabric pulls and it would have been amazing. Or, and hear me out, they could have done the original dress in black and white to emulate the iconic Barbie swimsuit. That would have been divine. But honestly, maybe Margo and the brand have no idea what they are doing and the Barbie similarities were an accident. I hope they are paying her a lot of money. It must be so difficult to make someone so gorgeous look so bland.
If that was the idea, I wish they had really run with it, make that pink brighter, make it hot! Make us think of Barbie! And do away with the tassles situation at the knee, or make them more dramatic, long and flowy and maybe echo them elsewhere?
I feel like Maria Grazia saw the Dior Couture fall 1999 collection by Galliano and she was like 'WORK I'm going to take the futuristic outfits and make them trash like I always do because I can't help myself'.
I just looked at Bach Mai, and oh my gosh I might be in love. I love that you shout out up and coming designers- thanks for introducing someone like me, who is so out of the fashion world, to these amazing artists!!
Thanks for getting this review out quickly. I knew when I saw who the media picked as best that they were wrong. Only you have it! Totally agree with all of your picks except I loved Lily James in that red. Disappointing carpet but Billy Porter saved the day. Amazing outfit!
I couldn’t wait for your review! I only wish you would have done every look as your remarks are always so amusing and informative! I’ve leaned so much from you about fashion history. Thanks!!!
Love the video and analysis as usual 🤍 I was just really hoping Luke would talk about Tyler James Williams’ suit because I think it really stood out on the carpet in the usual sea of boring men’s wear.
i studied the russian avant garde with a curator from moma and when i heard you bring it up i died. i think the dress is trying to reference barbie, the iconic bathing suit pattern in a modern barbie pink? idk
I was trying to figure out why I didn't like it! It all made sense on paper lol but maybe it's because she's petite and got overwhelmed! I feel like Hollywood has had an issue dressing petite correctly from the beginning (I've just really noticed it happening more recently). I'm tall and have a total lack of curves lol so I would be the last person to know how to dress a petite frame, but I know when it ain't it.
See i hated it the hair and makeup I loved but for me it was the fit not baggy enough to seem purposeful and not fitted enough to me equals ill fitting i love what they were going for i just dont feel like they actually made it i did like the concept though
@Holz Last name that's why I would've loved to hear Luke's thoughts on it!! Despite the fact there was a chance it ends up a dishonorable mention lol I liked it but i know everyone didn't. Even when I disagree on a look, Luke is very educational and shares his detailed knowledge. Would've loved it.
You are so well read Luke you are all over it. I agree with everything you said especially Margot and Elizabeth, both gorgeous girls and Aussies I can’t believe they let those designers dress them so meh!!
When you deep dived into the history of the dress that Margot Robbie wore - it was very much giving - if i fell down the rabbit hole learning about this dress so will you 😂😂
God bless for Luke’s review. Read DailyMails best and worst dressed and completely disagreed with almost all of their reviews. They don’t understand fashion like Luke does 🎉
This was so spot on and also loved your stick of butter and pizza stain comments lol Also, did they not realize there was rain coming? Thought they would have been more prepared regarding the dresses
the colour of the background for the golden globes red carpet was terrible! that pink washed out like everyone on the carpet, it didnt do anything for anyone!
I wonder what would Joan Rivers (Fashion Police) say about all these awful dresses and suits. Time passes but the fashion does not get any better. LOL! I really miss Joan Rivers, she would be roasting all these starlets and I would be laughing and just loving every minute of it! RIP Joan Rivers.
I actually think Margot's dress was ok, much better than some other Chanel looks she's turned up in. Lily James' dress is actually giving off Comme Des Garcons vibes, and I'm here for it.
You are so Funny. Smart. Humble. But proud. When I can't stand the frickin frackin news anymore, I flee to your site and you restore my sanity. You are a wonderful artist in your own right.
Billy Porter - have we not seen this twenty other times? What would be eye catching for him at this point, is a normal suit, impeccably tailored, perhaps in a peacock blue/green velvet with silk lapels, with a silk rouched train trailing from the top of his trousers, and then color-matched heels. I'm gay, so I can say this, but it's like, 'ok, we get it, you're loud and proud... stop with the dress tuxedo.' Truly, an impeccably tailored paint suit with a train would be memorable, considering all the skirts he's been doing. To see him in trousers would be a head turner.
When he was describing Viola's dress I LMAO because it was pouring over here. Hence the way the hem looked and when he mentions the rains, he should have thanked mother nature for the additional oof to the dress.🤣🤣

Amen to that! That beautiful girl just seems to have the worst formal dress taste ever 😵💫
But alsoooo i thought she was allowed to wear other brands than chanel
Yes but at Margots level of fame and income you pay someone to have taste for you. That's what all the people that actually look good at these events do.
@@wwaxwork She has a stylist. It's Kate Young so she's the one behind all of those looks. To me it seems like Margot really doesn't care much about fashion and she just wears whatever Kate puts her in
You are hysterical today! Thanks for making fashion fun!
Margot is so beautiful and deserves so much better! Idk how she even goes out in that!
I’ll never get tired of Luke casually destroying James Charles attempts at fashion. 😂
" attempt " you just added to the burn 😅😅😅
I was waiting for this video when I saw Margot's dress. Luke just complimented her change in brand styling but then this happened. 🤣🤣
They slept on Anya Taylor Joy or Julia Garner and instead Dior is always beating them to the punch.
she is the brands ambassador
The Carolina Herrera black tulip skirt dress with the white bust overlay is probably one of the most stunning dresses I've seen in my entire life. It's tremendous in it's simplicity.
I love listening to you speak about the art, history, and the artists who influenced these current looks. Your passion for fashion is admirable. I've learned so much.
❤
Imma a Stan...😂😂
I've been waiting all day for this! 💫 The absolute best fashion review! 💫
The historical dive you did into Margot’s Chanel dress was so cool - know that your research is appreciated !!
I love Billie Porter. Always such a joy🤩
Donald Glover looks like he threw on a tuxedo jacket on his way over from karate practice, and I LOVE it😍
I am actually enjoying this look on Rihanna. It is classy and regal. Two words that don't normally come to mind for me, regarding her style (sorry😔). I hope she continues this direction in wardrobe choices.
Indeed! I was thinking that Danny was running late from class at the dojo and just threw on the jacket in the limo. Not a problem. 😂
The whole cast of Abbott Elementary served hands down
Why in the world this showed up in my feed is beyond me.
“Be empowered by the wrinkles in your life” is my takeaway from this vid, came for the fashion stayed for the ted talks.
@@jessjess23brooks89they could have even done the similar black dress from the runway but in pink. This was another complete Chanel-disaster for her.
That’s what I thought !!!
I just adore you. You’re so fun to watch and honestly, quite educational.
Zegna is NOT spanish. It is an italian fashion/textile group, based in Piedmont.
Laverne looked absolutely gorgeous in that vintage Galliano dress. I love love that spring 2007 collection!
I love Luke's plea to Margot! 🤣😂 I wholeheartedly agree! More Bottega and Alaia!
I really hope Margot watches this 😂
i really thought michelle yeoh's dress was velvet on stage! it was kind of insane how you couldn't tell it was sequins until you got up close
The energy in this video is immaculate.
I feel like Maria Grazia saw the Dior Couture fall 1999 collection by Galliano and she was like 'WORK I'm going to take the futuristic outfits and make them trash like I always do because I can't help myself'.
I feel like John would to her face when seeing what she has done to the brand
Your literally a fashion historian so cool lol love how you just recognize so much
I love these reviews
ATJ should've dressed as a cheeseburger 🍔
I feel like we need a part 2 or extended video because Mj Rodriguez and Tyler James Williams looked so good they should've been on here.
I just looked at Bach Mai, and oh my gosh I might be in love. I love that you shout out up and coming designers- thanks for introducing someone like me, who is so out of the fashion world, to these amazing artists!!
Hi, really enjoying your way of talking about all things fashion 😀😁.
Just a tip: Zegna is actually an Italian company from Piedmont region 😉
Thank you to Billie for another, "This is how it's done!" moment.
We love the new up and comer Gucciba.
"she put it on so it's partially her fault" XD lol you crack me up.
I really enjoy your videos! You’re so knowledgeable about fashion and fashion history.
Thanks for getting this review out quickly. I knew when I saw who the media picked as best that they were wrong. Only you have it! Totally agree with all of your picks except I loved Lily James in that red. Disappointing carpet but Billy Porter saved the day. Amazing outfit!
Leaticia Wright's dress is reminiscent of the skin of Nguni cattle and fits in perfectly with her recent movie endeavours.
As someone who's not a native speaker, I learn so much about clothes N fashion with u and I thank you for it.
I am OBSESSED with the Jenna Ortega look it is SO BEAUTIFUL
I just adore Julia Garner's dress. Such a confection, such whimsy.
It reminds me of Princess Jellyfish!
I'm shocked you liked the Bach mai so much. Just reminds me of prom in the 1980's 😂 1000% agree w/ you on the 3 bests and the woooorrrrsts. LOVE YA 😘
I've been waiting for this;)
was hoping you’d react to tyler james williams’ look! his was one of my fav looks from the men
I thought his look was fashion forward and elegant
I couldn’t wait for your review! I only wish you would have done every look as your remarks are always so amusing and informative! I’ve leaned so much from you about fashion history. Thanks!!!
Love the video and analysis as usual 🤍 I was just really hoping Luke would talk about Tyler James Williams’ suit because I think it really stood out on the carpet in the usual sea of boring men’s wear.
i studied the russian avant garde with a curator from moma and when i heard you bring it up i died. i think the dress is trying to reference barbie, the iconic bathing suit pattern in a modern barbie pink? idk
It is a Barbie dress. That is all it is referencing.
That Daisy Edgar-Jones look is everything. It’s intricate, well made, sexy and elegant. Has a little Gilded Age going on. I’m in love with it!
I like the red Versace dress. But agree with most of your opinions. I just loved Jenna Ortega's dress. Very elegant!
Jenna’s dress has a belly dancer vibe. It makes her look short. Couldn’t the drapery be more in proportion?
I was trying to figure out why I didn't like it! It all made sense on paper lol but maybe it's because she's petite and got overwhelmed! I feel like Hollywood has had an issue dressing petite correctly from the beginning (I've just really noticed it happening more recently).
I'm tall and have a total lack of curves lol so I would be the last person to know how to dress a petite frame, but I know when it ain't it.
I love that you really know what you’re talking about! Thank you!
Jena's dress is not Wednesday type, but it still has a little bit of gothic vibe. She looks stunning ❤
why didn't you include Emma D'arcy? literally the best dressed
fr they were distinctive and spunky af. emma brought something new to the table.
Yes they looked so cool! Would've loved to hear his thoughts on the look.
Main reason I was looking forward to this video
See i hated it the hair and makeup I loved but for me it was the fit not baggy enough to seem purposeful and not fitted enough to me equals ill fitting i love what they were going for i just dont feel like they actually made it i did like the concept though
@Holz Last name that's why I would've loved to hear Luke's thoughts on it!! Despite the fact there was a chance it ends up a dishonorable mention lol I liked it but i know everyone didn't. Even when I disagree on a look, Luke is very educational and shares his detailed knowledge. Would've loved it.
Violas dress is wet because it was literally pouring rain. The entire red carpet was soaked. I can’t say how I know that but trust me I know.
28:11 every “screamo” girls dream dress from 2005 😂
that dress is really serving helena isnt it.....
Michelle Yeoh’s look was giving figure skater + 2009 school dance realness in the BEST way possible 💅💅
Jessica's dress was sheerer on the runway, they probably made it a lot less sheer for tv sadly
We skated past Laverne Cox too quick. That was a stunning look and she looked incredible!
The ASMR directed at Margot killed me 😂
Margot in Chanel is giving 2015 Senior Prom
Margot looked STUNNING - STUNNNNNNNING in that pink cute frjnged dress. So cute.
the one in *this* video?
the colour of the background for the golden globes red carpet was terrible!
that pink washed out like everyone on the carpet, it didnt do anything for anyone!
I miss her critiques as well. She was great.
Lily James has never looked better. The dress isn't all it could have been, but she's glowing in it like I've never seen before.
I’m surprised by the praise for Jenna Ortega’s dress! I thought it looked so sloppy and unpolished. The color washed her out too.
Same. I think it looked a bit sloppy and I'm not a fan of the way it hangs to the floor
me seeing the thumbnail: oh Margot doesn’t look that bad 🤔
me seeing the full dress: 😶
I love how I can tell by your facial expressions and tone of your voice when describing the outfits, where your assessment will land 😅
All of those honorable mentions hit so hard wow
And what about looks from Chloe Flower and Michaela Jaé Rodriguez?
I actually think Margot's dress was ok, much better than some other Chanel looks she's turned up in.
Lily James' dress is actually giving off Comme Des Garcons vibes, and I'm here for it.
Rip off the bottom part and it's a decent cocktail dress
You are so Funny. Smart. Humble. But proud. When I can't stand the frickin frackin news anymore, I flee to your site and you restore my sanity. You are a wonderful artist in your own right.
Donald Glover was giving me Lando Carlrissian going to the smoking lounge. 🚬
I saw a pic of the original Oscar De La Renta dress and it was a lot more sheer than what Jessica was wearing and looked a lot better.
When he was describing Viola's dress I LMAO because it was pouring over here. Hence the way the hem looked and when he mentions the rains, he should have thanked mother nature for the additional oof to the dress.🤣🤣
As soon as I saw the lampshade dress, I thought of the episode of Mad Men where Betty re-enters the modeling world
I’ve been waiting for this video to come out and definitely didn’t disappoint💕
luke delivering an asmr moment as a treat after critiquing that god awful chanel dress
YAY! I’ve been waiting for this‼️‼️‼️‼️♥️
