First we lost Leofric then Iseult, Halig, Thyra, Father Beocca, Young Ragnar, Erik, Steapa, Odda the Elder yet Aethelwold outlived them last kingdom loved killing off amazing characters.
I saw Leofric as the single greatest influence on Uhtred's character development into the leader he would become. So well written and acted. His appearance in season 3 further solidified that. And also made me choke up.
Uhtred learned many things from leofric as he was a warrior who had no interest in silver or gold but being a true warrior and believing in what he was doing as a man, he was a soldier and soldiers always follow but also in the choices he made, its funny how the smaller characters made such a big impact on the show and made it what it was. Leofric. I even smiled. “I knew him,” I said warmly, “and I loved him.” Leofric had been a tough West Saxon warrior who had taught me about war. You will all remember my great friend Leofric, a warrior and a Saxon to the bone!!! Gets me hyped and I felt that to the heart everyone one of my favorite scenes
Love how their friendship developed from hate for one another, but then turned out to be uhtreds first true loyal friend, uhtreds vision of Leofric smiling in the crowd at uhtreds speech of Alfred was both emotional and perfect, great way to pay tribute to leofric
3:32 when Leofric stands between Utrecht and Ubba, that's probably the moment Utrecht began to really appreciate Leofric as a friend and a Saxon to look for. Very few would have done what he did there.
i liked leofric his accent is great and he talkes loyalty and his own mind its an unlikely friend of Uhtred if he survived till the end what would happen. and he was a warrier till the end
I agree, it makes me think about how many people have ever existed, all the friendships and relationships, and how the passage of time turns such strong emotions into dust and echoes.
One of my favorite characters. He looks just like a man of those times you think would look. He fought hard like a man, honored his friends and stood by his lord and god.
The real hero of the story for me. Leofric embodies most of the virtues I aspire to. His loyalty, his bravery, and his wisdom always made me want to do better and fight harder.
Leofric's character was larger than life. Loyal to his end. A great friend, great warrior, and a great Saxon. This is just one of the wonderful characters we've loved, and lost, during our wanderings with Uhtred.
@@RisingFX The group would have been even better with Leofric. Honestly the loss of Leofric is still the one that hit me the most. More than any other character including Osferth. Finan is more akin to a brother to Uhtred but Leofric is like a mentor or uncle figure in Uhtreds life. He taught so much to Uhtred about how he should behave and watchout for. The things he will need to learn if he expects to lead and survive. I think his death was a bit premature. I think it did need to happen, just maybe not so soon.
The respect, admiration and love Alfred had for Leofric, Alfred never shows anyone the same devotion at all during the whole series, Leofric was truly his man
Leofric was a great character, then when he told King Alfred that he would fight Uthgred to the death when he was about to be executed. That sold me, Leofric is the best character I have seen in years. I have never had a character make me want to keep watching more than Leofric. In just 7 episodes.. He convinced me he was nothing but a true warrior and a man. Hard to find a character do BOTH, especially in 7 episodes. Episode 8 just made me lose my mind.
Leofric and Ravn are the two most immersive performances in TLK imo. King Alfred also was great, but Ravn in Episode 1 sold the first episode (Rutger Hauer, played the Android in Blade Runner, for those who didn't notice who was playing Ravn, one of his last performances was The Last Kingdom before he died), and Leofric solidified the first season.
he was like a father to uhtred, at least that's the way I saw it. He took uhtred under his wing, stood by him, protected him, shaped him unit the man we see throughout the rest of the show. when he couldn't find a way to avoid uhtreds execution, he offered to do it himself so he could give uhtred both a painless and dignified death but also Valhalla. Fate claimed him all the same as it had the king and Ragnar.
'His grave is to be marked like that of an Ealdorman.' No less than he deserved. He didn't fight for ambition, money or pride, he sought only to serve his lord, his king and his people. And he did exactly that. A Norman's advice to his son. "When he stands like an ox in the furrow, and fixes his eyes on your own, and he mutters "this just isn't right" Then my son leave the Saxon alone."
Yo you know Leofric was something else when he isn't afraid to square up to the Earl Ubb when he approaches Uhtred and the King during their first meeting. Surely a small scene but that says alot about Leofric, he was selflessly bold enough to truly and literally square up to this fierce chieftain. Leofric of Wessex would truly be the best warrior to ever live in the Last Kingdom
You forgot to include the part when without hesitation he admitted to doing the raids with Uhtred. It was a true testament to how honest he was even under potential penalty of death.
I hate that Leofric was killed he deserved better we didn’t get enough of him I’d of loved to have seen him and Finan meet. Leofric would of joined Uhtred after the death of Odda the Elder. And Untreds sad/ happy cry/ smile when he sees him and speaks of him.. Bonded.
Yes!!! That speech made that episode, EPIC!!!!
I just saw that scene. I'm in tears I came to find a leofric appreciation video and comments
