Long road!
It’s finally here
Still waiting on the Kongsberg M1914 & FN Grand Browning…
… i watched each at least 3 times 🙈
I just did a quick round addition and it is approximately 8 hours in videos with this one included, I have watched them before and fully intend to again.
Great, long-awaited episode but unfortunately it will cause the world to end tomorrow.
No the end of the world is after part 3
I've been waiting long enough.
@@MartinCHorowitzAre you sure we don’t have to wait for Gun Jesus to return from Heaven bringing John Browning with him?
@@samiam619 That is in part 2
Meh. I didn't have any plans.😂
Really good of the C&R team to bring lesser known models to light.
Yes, everybody's been waiting for the 1911 video, but all those preceding iterations, made for a great series of videos, leading up to this not rare, but still, iconic "Holy Grail" !
Indeed, how interesting, never heard of this one before...
@@MemorialRifleRangeWhat is this gimmicky design? The 1911... never heard of it! It will never catch on!😆
Single stack? How nouveau riche
This one is new to me I’m actually really interested in how odd this gun looks. We’ve never seen something like this before kinda explains though why it never caught on 😏
It’s crazy how often they make a video on firearms that I had no idea existed, like this one!
One of them Unremembered Firearms
A true forgotten gem.
Every two weeks I look forward to their next release
Yeah, I'm surprised they even no about good ol' Jo Mo Bro
We're really getting into the weeds to avoid WW2 Era productions. Like come on othias, the air force carbine with the longer mag is one thing. But the obscure "1911" offshoot, really now; smh.
I find that very Interesting and wonder if it’s generational? as most in my peer group are very familiar with the 1911 of that group I’d say 20-30% know it’s history.
"After almost 9 years in development, hopefully it will have been worth the wait."
(Sees the 2 hour run time)
This is gonna be a BIG story.
I remember Othias talking about how at first he expected it to not be a long list.
@@tenofprime You've been around for a LONG time then my friend.
Worth the weight.
@@rogainegaming6924agreed, heavy info here
Huh, what an oddball pistol. Something like this would never catch on
"automatic pistols" imagine how they would fair on horseback.
@@abstractapproach634 Clearly the LeMat hybrid shotgun-revolver is the way of the future.
And you tell me I can't shoot it with my middlefinger whilst resting my index on the slide! No deal.
Really dropped the ball on the 1900's no-switch pistol-whip clubworthiness.
The Cavalry were right...... wheel guns are the way forward .....for sure....
I am an old man, and I thought I may never to see that ultimate moment of this channel. I feel like crying.😭

Never heard of this one, must be a very obscure and unknown gun
Kind of surprised that this isn’t on Ian’s Forgotten Weapons channel. The collaboration opportunity seems ideal.
It looks kind of like that colt 1900 they covered a bit ago, probably coincide.
@@scott2836there is a video on Forgotten Weapons about the development of the 1911

Whacky stuff and calibers back then, real anime-looking stuff.
Finally the moment all firearm enthusiasts have been waiting for
I mean, I wanted this to be their final episode, the one to end the project. You know, keep promising it forever, and then present it at the very last moment.
All Americans ones, no one else is particularly fanatical about this specific piece of firearm outside of the states.
Not really.
I dunno, my favorite episodes are on the obscure and weird stuff.
Be nice though for a breath of fresh air when we get to WW2. Man, I remember Othias saying on the podcast late last year to expect the first WW2 episode spring of 2023. lol. I'm expecting it to come after the 1911, it's basically the capstone to WW1.
@@Vehrec Personally I'm glad it's out of the way, now I know that every future episode is going to surprise me with a gun I've never heard of before.
Finally, the full 1911 episode. Only way I will complain is if it is only 17 minutes long.
From the sounds of it these 2 hours are just the beginning too.
1911 minutes long.
WE MAKING IT OUT OF THE TRENCHES WITH THIS ONE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
We have been waiting 8 years for this moment .
But hey atleast the length and breadth of this series on the 1911s development has definitely helped to dispel some myths about the 1911 and it’s handling
almost as long as it took for Colt and Browning to develop the 1911
@@chooseyouhandle Greatness takes time.
This is a certified Colt Classic
Ha! I see what you did there. Take my like and get out please.
DAYUM SON whered you find this? We makin it out of Hartford with this one 👌
It's crazy how much time, dedication and effort it took for C&R team to create this episode. Huge respect!
I was honestly a little disappointed this episode wasn't on the well-known Schmitt Rubin's. But hearing the inspiring story of this humble little firearm and small manufacturer is incredibly heartwarming to see.
Thanks! Hard not to love a 1911... Only the Browning Hi-Power is up there with the 1911.
But the Hi-Power is a 9n/n makes a smaller hole. It is a nice gun but cannot compete with the 1911.
@@bunkstagner298it also holds twice as many rounds with about half the weight moving a lot faster. More ft/lbs per magazine in the hi-power.
I would agree, and even then it's in many ways an improved 1911 but it comes almost 25 years later down the road.
@@bunkstagner298 disagree.
The Hi-Power is what Browning thought the 1911 should have been.
Our patience rewarded, many thanks C&Rsenal for all of this. 🙂👍
1:13:00 - It's me. I'm the debater.
York's division was issued the M1917, and he mentions that fact in his writings, but in a letter written by York to his old comrade James P. Cooper on Sept 20, 1920, York states:
"Say James do you remember that little Springfield rifle that you gave me as we went up to the front line. That is the rifle that I did my shooting with. I used it and my Colts pistol."
From what I'm told, James was transferred into York's regiment from a regular Army unit to help fill it out. The regular units were all issued 1903s.
I'm calling in sick the rest of the day to watch this.
Othias you have almost given us the development of the 1911 in real time we've waited so long.
Its not a dig you guys are awesome, that means you too bruno. You da real MVP.
Thanks!
The time has finally come!
John Moses Browning really was a genius. Not only is the 1911 functional, it's also gorgeous. Companies would not still be making it over 100 years later if it wasn't good.
He was a genius among geniuses. So many of his designs and ideas are being used well over a century later, and there’s no arguing that the 1911 is one of the most aesthetically pleasing “machines” man has ever created.
Like a Fender Stratocaster or Coke Bottle, it’s just a perfect blend of form and function.
And all the Glock fanboys call the 1911 a piece of junk. LOL
This video is like chasing after a pretty lady- feels good that you finally scored- yet a little depressing that the anticipation and chase is over...
The animation, whether done in cad or an art package, is absolutely superb.
It's been 84 years... And we are finally here. Glad to have been here since the c96 video. Worth all these years of support. And I'll wait patiently for more.
To say that one was awaited by many would be quite an understatement.
Just in time for the release of Starfield, glad to have a guide to the weapons of the 24th century.
Still serving the Imperial Guard in the grim dark future of the 41st millennium, the "stub gun".
1911 is eternal. Even if you call it a 40011.
Just an old fashioned slug job. Noisy. Messy.
First introduced to this weapon at Fort Ord, CA in 1968 while in US Army. Fine weapon, used in Nam '68, helped bring me back home.
For I moment time stood still and I had to contemplate if this was really the 1911 or another “before we get there ‘s one more iteration we have to cover” episode. It been a long road, I know you endured a lot comment and complaints but it was worth the wait. Thanks!
My first 1911 is a Remington R1 Enhanced that I found in a used gun case a few years back. I hadn't actually shot one before, and my very first range trip with I immediately understood its popularity. Despite its heft, it is so naturally balanced as to practically point itself back on target after each shot. After enjoying the R1 for a few years, I was greatly pleased to be able to get one of the surplus units from the CMP last year, and now have a genuine GI 1911A1 (although mine is a very late production, 1945 Ithaca frame w/RR slide, it is most definitely the real deal).
Outstanding evaluation… thank you!
It's good to hear Americans acknowledge the influence the Luger had on the design of the 1911, specifically the ergonomy. (Yes, 1911 is the better gun, no denying that.)
It looks nondescript nowadays, while the Luger is much more easily recognisable.
Get home from work just in time to see something every sub has been waiting a long time for. Thanks, Othais!
Holy shit it actually came out 😂😂 I can’t wait to watch on the TV after work. Can’t wait for the primer on the M1911A1 in 5 years lmao!
I hope this video brings more people to the C&Rsenal channel and helps them grow further to keep this incredible channel going!
Ladies and Gentleman finally after 8 years of waiting its Finally here.
Never thought id see the day, I thought i would find out what the one piece was before the 1911 episode would be released
I been watching your videos for well over 4 years. I really enjoy the in-depth history you teach us about the weapon and the designer. And how they came up with this particular design. Then we get to see the weapons in action and then you have discussion with Mae. Just all around fantastic.
The pistol that forgot to become obsolete.
-XboxAhoy
I had a Colt 1911 Government model made for commercial sale in 1917. Well, I still have it but it’s unusable and nothing what it was. It was a pretty rare 1911 since it was a commercial 1911 built in a year when 99% of the 1911s were made for the US Army. Only a few thousand were sold to the public. This particular gun was in 99% condition since the old guy I bought it from, who bought it new, might have shot less than a few hundred rounds and the only wear was on the very tip of the muzzle where it rubbed the holster it spent it’s life in. The spot was barely noticeable and pretty tiny.
Sadly, in 2011, my home was lost, along with 1300 others in a wildfire. So all of my guns were exposed to hours of fire. Unlike the modern polymer pistols, the metal was still there but it’s lost all its strength and surface treating. By the time they let us onto our property a week later what was left was a rusty mess.
But until then it was a great pistol. I got to use it for a couple decades and treated it like the great weapon it was. I still have it. But it’s not a shooter anymore.
I also lost a Colt New Service chambered in 44Russian of similar era. She was bought from the same old guy. Colt made some fine guns back then.
Well folks we've made it to the peak of Guntubing.
Proud owner of a 1918 manufactured 1911 that was refurbished for WWII. Still all matching despite having the wrong parkerization.
Thanks, now my skin is green from envy. I'll have to fend off Capt. Kirk with a stick thanks to you.
"There's people watching this show who bought one this week."
Guilty as charged.
I was going to, but I looked in the safe and all 11 of them seemed to be getting along with each other so why mess with success?
Been waiting for this one for years!
Given that the manual safety wsa an add-on to an existing design, it is truly amazing how well integrated it is...
OH MY GOD
It's finally happening!
Don't have time for a 2 Hour video right now but i'll absolutely watch tomorrow.
What's the procedure?
Your name would indicate you have no God
Watch Othias take it down cause that one "camera mistake" with May; that would be funny
OMG IT'S THE ONE. The wait is over.
Yisssss....
2 hours of goodness.
Thank you for telling the full 1911 lineage and story. In this world of instant gratification it would have been tempting to jump straight to it. Having the full build up, and more to come was the right way to do it.
OH MY GOD ITS FINALLY HERE ITS NOT A DRILL ITS ACTUALLY HERE!
I own a 1913 1911 Colt service .45. Can still dust a gnat’s ass at 25 yards with it. Rarely shoot but I actually shot it a couple months ago. It was my great grandfather’s WWl service pistol. Back in those days you could purchase your service pistol once your service obligations were over. He did that. It has 18 little tic marks on it for all the targets he successfully engaged during his involvement in trench warfare. I am the 4th member of my family to own this pistol. Myself & all previous family members were all veterans of military service. My grandfather gave me this wonderful piece when he started to get too old to even responsibly have a gun. My father was never in the military, so he got skipped over & I got it instead, in keeping with the tradition of staying in veteran hands. He was a little mad but he got over. Certainly my most prized possession. Love that pistol.
"It's been a long road, gettin' from there to here..."
And we're finally at THE gun. The myth, the legend, the Colt M1911.
The last stepping stone on the path to the very peak of this line: the Norwegian 1914!
I have, of course, heard John Moses Browning described as a mechanical genius an uncountable number of times, but it's the detailed discussion and animation of all the features of this gun, in such direct comparison to all the guns that went before it, that made me understand his genius...
Then emphasized by how smoothly and quickly those features enabled Mae to shoot it!
This was the longest tease in YT history, at least what I can remember. :-)
Good job folks, it was worth it.
This video has answered so many questions about my own 1914 vintage 1914. I was told by a couple 1911 forums my pistol was just a parts gun. Seems that’s not the case at all whatsoever. I was also told that since my pistol is just a parts gun it’s only worth 700 to 800 bucks. Not that price is a big deal it was just they were trying to act like my pistol was nothing special. I don’t care who you are a pistol that dates back to 1914 is special. It’s literally 3 years after the original 1911 was released. I’ll never get rid of this pistol it’s simply the coolest thing ever to me.
Like a lockheed constellation, the 1911 just *looks* right.
I still carry a 1911 , not a pure one, obviously but with just a little refinement from the one you have. The design has stayed relevant for over a century, which is remarkable.
When I saw Model of 1911 I thought these was going to be about the Berthier Machine Rifle, and not this obscure hunk of Yankee steel... Huh, you learn something every day
Two hours on another random Colt pistol? I'm sure this one won't become very popular. 😉
I can't believe I lived to see this.
Never heard of it.
From a non shooting viewpoint, C&Rsenal seems very good.
The most anticipated video in RUclips history
Yes finaly
Let’s goooooooo it’s 1911 time.
Outstanding! Out fooking standing! My favorite Uncle (Sam) made me very familiar with this pistol over forty years ago, and this is the most comprehensive video I have seen about it. Thanks for the many hours it took to put this together - I learned a lot. Bravo Zulu
What a fantastic 2+ hours. I can't thank you enough for the work that you all put into your show. THANK YOU!
Omfg I've been waiting for this one for 9 years
I carried this fine workhorse, its offspring 1911a1 ,in US ARMY.. MP CORP 1974-1977.
ITS A HIT.
Thank you for your continued immense effort in bringing us this fantastic show!
Thank you! This has been so much fun with you guys, looking forward to more.
Another great episode! Can't wait for the next few to finish out the story on the 1911.
Oh jeez, not another vid about the 1911, I wish they would explore more obscure stuff like the Ruby or the Reichsrevolver....😎
1:38:47 Which makes this show invaluable to us creatives who want that crunch of realism in the media we create thank you for doing it this way!
I’m happy we got the 2 hour video. Gives it the time it needs and deserves
Sitting here listening to this episode while carrying my double stack .45ACP 1911. It really is pretty funny how this gun can still hang with modern designs once you simply add some accessories and a double stack frame on it. 15+1 flush fit .45ACP and 18+1 extended is in line with the recently released FN 545's capacities.
That has more to do with how little handguns have evolved since the 1911, though. There's more of a mechanical difference between the 1911 and a Luger than the 1911 and a Glock. Hell, 100 years before the 1911, we were still using flintlocks. Over 110+ years after the 1911, we're still using the same basic tilting barrel, short recoil mechanism with a slide that the 1911 pioneered.
That Webley pioneered.
It's truly amazing. Obviously there's some mechanical differences, but that tilting barrel is everywhere in modern semiautomatic handguns.
Living back then must have been amazing. Went from single shots to blackpowder revolvers, to cartridges revolvers, to semi-autos in 65 years
Double stack .45? Must be a fat grip
Wow, wonder where you can buy one! Must be pretty rare!
Yeah, it's a shame no one makes them anymore. 😢
An extremely gratifying episode to finally see. All the build up and teaching to this point has made it all the more interesting an episode. Great work!
I have been waiting for this like you wouldn't believe.
Adjusted for inflation $15.60 for the magazine and $444.50 for the pistol
That's a price even I could afford. Sadly, I'm sure I would have to order 20 000 of them to get such a price. 😀
@@mortisCZooor you can order an RIA or TISAS 1911, they're roughly that price

Long-awaited and anticipated with a sort of manic confidence by those who follow this crew. Unsurprisingly they've delivered not only good TV, but this is also a thorough A/V documentary---almost academic in its rigor. Plus, it's obviously a future historical documenT. 👍👍❤❤👍👍

Thanks guys, the prices of these little known pistols are going to go through the roof now that's its been exposed.
no doubt. glad I got a half dozen stored away in my secret vault in my basement under my stairs.....
Mike B. : *Autistically screeching*
I actually just sent out my order packet to the CMP today for Round 4 of their 1911 orders.
Loved it fantastic episode you guys! Been a long time coming but worth the wait! Amazing how they stayed at it 1900, 1902, 1905,1907/09/10 then finally the 1911!
Part of the WW1 history of the 1911 lies in the fact that tens of thousands of them never made it back into inventory after the war. While some were undoubtedly combat losses, it was a very popular handgun to take home as a war souvenir even though it was obviously illegal to take US government property firearms.
Now that youre free of the burden of the 1911, i cant wait for you to cover something with a simple and uncomplicated history, like the m16 or g3
Thank you for all he hard work putting this together. Still watching but I'm happy this is finally here and DONE RIGHT!
Masterful summation of the road to the 1911. Thanks folks. I'm not sure when I started watching your show but my small contribution is repaid many times over. Please continue.
