I just changed my valve body. I have a 300 dollar scanner from auto zone that I used to clear the codes after I hooked everything back up. No lights on and it’s driving fine. I’m ready to change my fluid and have the same question.
Hey my man, I’m a’ European car tech so Subaru is uncharted territory for me 🤣. If I only replace the lock duty solenoid do I still need to perform the AT learning process? Or is it only needed when replacing the entire valve body? Great video by the way, you truly explain everything in a straightforward and very didactic way! Keep it up my bro
I put a smart level up against the chassis that is how I level the vehicle. Also a garden sprayer works just as good but a lot cheaper than the automotive application pump
Dunno how the hell Subaru of America can say its a sealed unit with lifetime fluid when it goes in a nice light blue and comes out looking like that after ~100 000 miles.
Hi, very nice videos, thank you so much. I replaced the valve body on my outback 2012 (TR690), and a friend helped me with the learning process, everything is working as it should. However, the AT OIL TEMP light is flashing in 8 times/2 seconds intervals. I read is because the TCM is in learning mode, I just wanted to know if is there a way to stop the light from flashing without the scanner tool… Any guidance you can provide would be really appreciate it.
Vid is good to go. Appreciate all your vids very much. After replacing valve body do you think the logic in the vehicle's computer will figure out the re-learn in the course of normal driving. Or is it imperative to manual re-learn with scan tool. 100+ dollars just to get appointment at the dealer to hook up the scanner. Again thank you for vids.
You don’t have to do the re learn on a drain a fill right? You’re doing this since you replaced the valve body. Also can you use a temperature gun for the transmission temp?
I was going to replace the valve body on my 2012 Impreza, but the local dealership quoted me $1800 to replace it and do a full CVT service. Seems like a decent deal. Another Subaru dealer quoted me at like $2600. Amazing how different dealerships can be.
Dang, I was thinking of doing this myself but if it's recommended to do an AT reset, I guess I'll have to take it in. Mine is at 94k and starting to hesitate around 13 mph.
Roughly how much CVT fluid did you use for this? I'm replacing a valve body in my 2012 Impreza and doing a change and fill. I don't want to buy too much, but I also want to have enough without running back for more fluid. Thanks and keep up the great content!
Great video! Your content is always very detailed and so informative. Thank You. Is the relearn process absolutely necessary? I'm over a hundred miles from a Subaru Dealership.

hey, i have an odd question probably. I bought the oil and imported it to germany, bought the exact same oil pump... but it only sucks oil but does not transfer.... did you use any external pump to create pressure inside the cylinder?

Mr Subaru, I bought my 2015 outback with 87k miles. Idk if the fluid has been changed out. Should i do a flush or just change? One or two changes now and then at 120k? Do i change the filter too?
Really enjoy your videos! I’m considering buying my first Subaru. I’ve had a few different rav4’s and was able to get 260,000 miles out of both. I’ve found a nice clean 2017 forester with 27,000 miles. If we keep up with the maintenance is there a good chance it would go the 250,000 mile range?
Mr. Subaru, great video. I'm planning on doing a drain and fill on my CVT soon, and I'll be dropping the pan to clean the magnet off (110k on the car). What gasket sealant would you recommend for resealing the pan as TB1217b is usually unavailable, and it gets confusing to figure out what alternative to use?
Hey Mr. Subaru. I know that this is not the topic you are talking about. I just wonder about using the Penzoil Ultra Platinum oil 0W20 on my 2021 Ascent and high mileage same oil for the 2013 Legacy. What are your thoughts on WIX XP vs WIX oil filters, XP is impossible to find in Canada. Great video as always.

Enough. 😂 I honestly don't know. I have Ober a gallon in the transfer pump. I never measure it. Just fill it until it's set to factory procedure. Ballpark around 6-8qts

You have a 5EAT conventional automatic transmission, not a CVT. ATF should be drained and refilled every 3yr/36k miles.
Do these CVTs have a changeable filter at all?
No
