There's no need for a conspiracy : Amin made THE CHOICE to take over Uganda, not some controlling foreign mastermind ! That myth is as hoary as the "Nato killed Gaddhafi" one (i.e. his own people did it, with a bayonet up his rear - something no Nato pilot in the air overhead can do).

NO. Africa is the name the Greeks used for ancient Libya (the word Libya itself conversely was used for all of North Africa west of Egypt) and it is derived from the Ifri, a Berber tribe whose name means "cave-dwellers" and to this very day there is a city close to Tripoli, Libya called "Yifrin."
In antiquity the rest of Africa where Black-skinned people lived was known as Aethiopia.
At the time of Rome's war with Carthage and later during the Muslim conquests, Africa was the name of modern day Tunisia. (Scipio Africanus, the Roman general who defeated Hannibal, was called The African because he conquered what was then known as "Africa")
It is only very recently that the word began to be used to refer to the whole continent. So originally, Africans had nothing to do with Blackness. Seeing Black Americans calling themselves "African Americans" makes no sense whatsoever when you keep all of the above in mind.

Uganda became independent on October 9th 1962. Idi Amin did not become president until 1971 after initiating a military coup. That is hardly defeating the British Empire. His biggest monument was a huge minaret that was so badly built it curved like a banana and could not be finished, plus bullet holes in Kampala University Uganda was in turmoil with a wrecked economy until after Museveni finally re-united it in 1986.
