When I was 19 years old in 1976. I worked in a nursing home. I took care of 100yr old man and 92 yr old lady. They talked about after dinner families would sit on the porch with tea or coffee and friends would gather too for chit chat music and dessert
Been sober for 3 years. I appreciate how honest you two are about saying you're not big drinkers. I'm glad to be in a place without drinking in my life and great to hear there's more out there, too! Your videos make me smile which is so important in 2022!! (Or any year really!)
In my great uncles home there was a breezeway separating the house from the kitchen. I can see how this was a real blessing in the summer. Very old house. You don't see breezeways any more.
I want you to know myself and my wife anticipate your weekly video. Just like you anticipate your favorite shows, such as the outlanders. We wish we didnt live so far away. Would love to go to your Pioneer Days and the such. And of course to meet you two lovely people.❤ ❤❤
Here in mid Europe, Hungary, we have always been making rolled pancake....in my childhood my mother made very thick pancakes and filled it heavily with jam or walnut with sugar or a dairy cream with sugar...and they were yummy :)
I want to watch you guys do the everyday tasks, but historically. Chop wood, Ron's woodworking, gardening, cleaning the fireplace (what tools they used and how to keep the ash off everything), militia stuff... Could be very cool.
Im in OKC, OK. We had had 25+ miles an hour wind almost daily since February! I will be glad to send it your way lol!! They this is the windiest it’s ever been since 1958. Today it’s 27 mph. Thanks for all you two do🙏🏼💜
I wash my Mom,s iron skillets in soap and water like she did and re season it with oil and they are just fine and non stick. They are almost 100 years old and still working fine.
I love pewter - if you use oil on the iron skillets, you have to wipe the off real good and then you can heat the skillet and it will season the skillet -
You two are a perfect match and a joy to watch thank you for these videos I always learn a thing or two about how life was for our ancestors keep up the amazing work and God bless ❤
In Ukraine we always roll our pancakes, or fold them into little square parcels, or cylinders 😄 it’s so convenient! And it’s very British to sprinkle pancakes with sugar and drizzle with lemon juice - it’s super tasty!
I just recently found you and I love your channel. Seeing how life was lived so many years ago makes me grateful for the convenience of my life today. I’m amazed that you’re really living this life. I love watching your videos so much information about our history.i love learning about history. You two are the cutest couple I wish you both many blessings
It is so wonderful to watch the videos of both channels. And I have been enjoying your "Chat and Chew" episodes. It is nice to watch a decent couple give wholesome entertainment. I hope your channels continue to grow and thank you.
Another great chat & chew! I could feel the heat and appreciate you both carrying on like the troopers you are. Hubs and I LOL' d at the backfiring chicken (rooster)!!! Gotta order that chocolate tea!
In the UK we have pancake day. We have thin rolled pancakes with either sugar or golden syrup, they are then squirted with lemon juice to counteract the sweetness.
I grew up in a Canadian city where the second largest ethnic group was Finnish and what was referred to as "Finnish Pancakes" was a staple around town. One of the restaurants called The Hoito was actually featured in a cooking show on tv because of how famous those pancakes were. They look exactly like these flat vintage pancakes do! They're such a delight to roll up, stack, fold, whatever and just eat. I've been making my own Finnish pancakes as of recently because I moved away, trying to mimic the ones I used to eat and also thought "I must be the only one in this town who makes these" just like Justine, haha.
❤️Salt Pork..Omg is the BEST! Crispiest Crunchiest part!!..(MUST be cooked Thru)…& is Still often cooked with today, but not often eaten alone because of the cholesterol, but Wowser, if You like crispy bacon You’ll love Salt Pork!…was always my Fav as a Kid..& I’d be hard pressed to say no if I were ever around it..(😂from a 20+yr vegetarian turned 10yr Pescatarian😝😉👍🏻).. SALT PORK = • Used to Flavor Beans for Rice & Beans, or a Bowl of Soup Beans.. • Used to Flavor Your Greens (blanch greens, cook salt pork, pour salt pork grease little at a time over your greens, add a few spices & serve w/rice or whatever dinner entree).. •Reserve the Cooking Oil it adds Flavor & used to flavor Mashed Potatoes, add to Roasts, or Soups or Stews, etc..
I’m just curious do you all actually live in the cabin? I think it’s really neat! I love your all’s videos it’s so relaxing and just awesome to see and to think about how it used to be back in the day!
You too are just so cute, Justine is a domestic goddess I love watching her it reminds me of my elder’s back when and now myself… I so enjoyed everything to do inside the home I love collecting tea pots I always look in the thrift shops cause it’s the best place to find them . Can’t wait to hear the news when you too are tying the knot , you’re both so lovely and respectable human beings bless you both always with great health for life ahead 😉😚
I absolutely love the tea pot! ❤ tea coming out of mouth and Ron saying a little backfire lmao! Too funny still laughing today and I watched this video last night 😂
The pancakes look great! I've never thought of doing them that way. Ron's boy scout picture is super cute. 😍 I have a sensitive mouth so I can't drink anything real hot but I would definitely try the tea- sounds good.
Aawww! Ron boyscout pic was adorable 🙂. Was waitn for a pic of Justine as a girl scout.🤔 Thank you for making all these fun and interesting videos guys! Good for you...not caring for alcohol. Nutn wrong with that 👍🏻
Too funny! You were saying “and the tea comes out of the chickens mouth” exactly the same time I was putting food into my mouth! Thank goodness I was able to swallow it and not throw it back out! ha ha ha ha
Oh wow, the cabin looks AWESOME all decked out in American decor!! Love it!! 😍🇺🇸❤️🙏 These pancakes sound soooo good, especially with the lemon! I love anything lemony lol! 😋🍋
Loving these videos and also the Early American channel. You two are amazing. Thank you for all you do to keep our history alive. Curious about where you got the mugs you two are using in this video. I really like them. Thank you again for your dedication to keeping our history alive. God Bless.

I think its about time you two start travelling oversees. Because its the other way around: you are the only one with fluffy small pancakes. In Europe we make them big and thin ....
Really interesting informative video - prompted me to read about the battle of Ft. San Carlos. Wish I could attend the Ft. de Chartres event. It would make for a great weekend. Your cabin looks so rustic and patriotic with the 13 star flags. Pancakes look great and the teas sound delicious. Thanks for the effort (and sweat ) you guys put into this.
Sorry late with my message but thank you for introducing me to chocolate tea! 😋. Aftr watching your memorial day video, I bought some. Never heard of it before but I'm enjoying a cup right now. I could only find Stash brand tea bags in my market but I'm happy with the taste 😋. Thank you guys again. An Ohioan
Hey! Glad you liked it! Contact Kandyes shop in Ste Genevieve Mo "Sassafras Creek Originals" she carries all of the 18th century flavors of tea 10+.. she ships.
Hello you two wonderful people. I thought I would tell you that I have ordered the Martha Washington tea from Oliver Pluff & Company. I ordered the tea bags and hope it tastes as good as the loose leaf. It is a little costly but today is my birthday and I thought I am worth the money :-) Keep making your videos on both channels love your love for history!!
We had rolled pancakes growing up made with zest and lemon juice, with butter and a sprinkle of sugar in them, so yeh they are yum. We also did the stack but it was later on, this way is to eat them on the go. Live in Western Australia btw
In Sweden this is our basic pancake still but with a different recipe. We do have a thicker one that we make in the oven or on the Stowe, those we serve with lingonberry jam and fried thin pork strips.
Don’t be jealous, lol. My poor tomatoes and peppers are hatin’ life without some heat. Last year we were baking at this time, this year we’re just cooling our heels, ha. Springtime in the Rockies.
We had similar pancakes growing up that mom ate growing up and called Finn pancakes that her mother learned to make and brought the recipe with her from Finland. They were left flat not rolled and I liked them with maple syrup. The rest of the family put fruit and whipped cream or even chocolate chips on them.
I had been learned on to use Olivia Wilde oil for cast of iron. That has worked for me. I am interested in the bee's wax thing. I will try that at some point.

@@gracie3174 Thank you!! 5 years sober now! I appreciate all the likes, too!!
I grew up in a Danish household. When I was little, I didn't know pancakes were fluffy! I only ever had rolled up crepes with jam and maple syrup!
Me too. Lyle's syrup not maple syrup though.
I was thinking that jam in the middle before roll up would be so good!!!
My mom is from Copenhagen! I grew up eating crepes!
Mmmm 🤤 a lemon jam or curd would be amazing on these.
@@kateespencer764 Ooooh!!! Mouth-watering!!!!

The way Ron's father eats apple butter is the same way I eat apple butter. I don't know why I have never attempted to make it.

Also more dads in videos haha. Esp Ron's dad making the stuff he does.
You can play Red Dead Redemption 2 😅😉
I really do enjoy these episodes! Before the internet, cell phones, computers and such, people would sit together and talk, I love it, thanks!
We have my great grandmas spinning wheel still in my family!
That is awesome!

British pancakes are thin and rolled. Lemon and sugar is really common in the UK, eaten on Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday).
