I met Pete Stewart once. He had a solo album come out in like 1999. I had heard of Grammatrain but never listened to them, had no idea who they were. But I wore out that pete Stewart solo album. So there I am on the streets of Nashville shaking Pete's hand, thinking he's a new up and coming artist. I told him how great I thought his solo album was. He smiled and nodded and said thanks. I was such a dope. I had no idea who he was.
@VonHellblazer This song was put out in 1995. Regardless of how Pete Stewart and Grammatrain feel now doesn't retroactively change this song, the way it was marketed, who they played concerts with, and where it was (and still is) sold.
Cannot grow pretend to bleed In a trough of gray I kneel to feed Stare forward, glare behind Looking for what I cannot find Am I the soil or the seed Can't tell what inside anymore Could be I'm alright like before Black or white I lost my sight Can't tell what's inside anymore An angry child, never seen Since I got my wings I'm never free Mirror, mirror to me you show Someone that I do not know In a lonely house I look for Thee
@tgwdoughboy I have always respected Grammatrain because they are open and honest about who they are. I really respect Pete for having the courage to tell people where he was and where he is now.
It could be just my own projection on it, but I take the song's lyrics as being a man, recently divorced and reeling from the loss of his kid(s) ("an angry child never seen / since i got my wings I'm never free") searching and looking to God for meaning in his life. ("In a lonely house, I look for Thee") As I've gotten older, I've realized that Grammarian songs come in two flavors: clearly pandering to the Christian market, or talking about real life stuff that nobody ever wants to deal with. This is definitely the latter in my mind. It always will be, and even though Pete now states he is an Athiest, that doesn't mean he's not still searching for meaning, and it doesn't mean God doesn't still have meaning for him.
Pete just tripped. But, God's got him. All physical matter and energy came from something outside of nature.... Supra-natural.... God. Prophesy and nature proves God is.
Totally feel the Alice in Chains influence on this one. One of my favorite bands despite their demons. Although I liked Grammatrain first! I started out in the Christian rock scene before checking out secular stuff.
@VonHellblazer So, that just shows little understanding of Christian music, I even hate labeling it that way because it leads to this kind of crap (especially on the "church" side.) There are plenty of bands in the history of the Christian side that didn't say Jesus or preach to you but spoke their heart. Bands like Rez spoke plenty of social issues, or look at Circle of Dust/Argyle Park for example.
Brilliant!! Listen a lot to you guys.
Jesus Rules!

Man I listened to this growing up. I got out of the military in 2009 and they were still rocking

he has 4 solo albums and an album and ep as the singer for accident experiment with Marcos from P.O.D.
Wow!! Amazing!!! Grew up as a teen listening to your albums up in Canada. Wish I could have seen you guys live.
Grammatrain rocks, this is one of my favorites songs from the Lonley House album.

I remember the first time I heard this song about 15 years ago. Sounds even more amazing live in 2009.

that bassline sounds like an hungry monster wandering around
Whoa! Wtf didn't anyone tell me about this jaw-dropping, hard-rocking Christian band before?!?
Always loved the grind of this one!

Religion is bullshit. Make your own meaning, kill religion and borders and boundaries and just love your fellow man.
Uma das melhores bandas que já ouvi!!
Yay. Pedal board shot
goooood, gratification

damn they did a show in 09!? snap i missed it! :(
This is the grammatrain I fell in love with. Flying and newer albums felt to polished and not as hard hitting.
Jus I Say: Good Music.

This band is awesome! Had never heard them before. Does anyone know what the guitarist is using to get that delicious tone?
