It's been a bit! Wanted to make a Soviet/Russian Navy edit for a bit, so here is one step in that direction ;) I will try getting back to uploading more regularly, but with my job I have little free time. Footage is from an interesting film of Timur Apakidze himself, Russian Major General and Founder of modern Russian Naval Aviation, in the late 90's called "Форсаж" (Afterburner). Very good film on the early history of fixed wing naval aviation in the Soviet/Russian Navy, unfortunately with no English Subtitles. Linked below.
Timur Avtandilovich Apakidze (Russian: Тимур Автандилович Апакидзе, Georgian: თემურ აფაქიძე, also transliterated as Temur Apakidze; 4 March 1954 - 17 July 2001) was a Russian major general of Georgian ethnicity, fighter pilot, flight specialist and founder of the modern Russian Naval Aviation and Hero of the Russian Federation. On 17 July 2001, during an airshow in honor of the 85th anniversary of Russian Naval Aviation, Apakidze's Su-33 crashed while performing maneuvers. At first the show went as planned, but when Apakidze performed a complex maneuver,[2] he reported experiencing sudden technical difficulties and from the ground it could be seen that the plane was out of control. He did not eject despite receiving the command twice. Trying to fly away from the populated area, he aimed for the landing strip in an apparent effort to save the aircraft. Unfortunately, he only made it to within three kilometres (2 mi) of the runway. Shortly before the collision with the ground, he ejected from the cockpit and suffered multiple fractures, but he died on the way to the hospital and was buried in the Troyekurovskoye Cemetery. Busts and plaques were commissioned in his honor.
The Sukhoi Su-33 (Russian: Сухой Су-33; NATO reporting name: Flanker-D) is an all-weather carrier-based twin-engine air superiority fighter designed by Sukhoi and manufactured by Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Production Association, derived from the Su-27 and initially known as the Su-27K. Compared with the Su-27, the Su-33 has a strengthened undercarriage and structure, folding wings and stabilators, all for carrier operations. The Su-33 has canards, and its wings are larger than the Su-27 for a slower stall speed. The Su-33 has upgraded engines and a twin nose wheel, and is air refuelable.
First used in operations in 1995 aboard the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, the fighter officially entered service in August 1998, by which time the designation "Su-33" was used. Following the break-up of the Soviet Union and the subsequent downsizing of the Russian Navy, only 24 aircraft were produced. Attempted sales to China and India fell through. With plans to retire the Su-33 once they reach the end of their service life, the Russian Navy ordered the MiG-29K as a replacement in 2009.

@@chrisbacon3071 переводчик перевел не очень, но суть я понял). Согласен что это корыто никакими модернизациями не исправить, а денег на него спустили как на половину нового авианосца. Но я не думаю что нынешняя влась в состоянии построить нормальный авианосец, при этом сохранив экономику страны на нынешнем уровне. Я думаю пусть будет один но плохой, чем вообще ни одного. Хотя кто его знает. Надеюсь его никто не потопит, и из него когданибудь сделают корабль музей.
