HomeFree sang this with so much respect and beauty . Don McLean is a legend who still has a great voice. ❤🥰
For a couple years I have been having a reoccuring dream that Home Free did this song and my dreams came true. My hubby of 52 years is Vincent and a painter.
This is truly phenomenal! What a voice Don McLean still has! Wow. And of course Austin also sang great, but Rob's voice is just perfect for this song. His voice so warm, soft as silk and full of emotion. The quiet background vocals and guitar playing complete it for me. It's the same song as my youth, but with the Home Free twist it's something different. A beautiful song where I, of course, as a Dutch person, know the history of Vincent van Gogh well.
If I could, I would have given Don McLean and Home Free a bouquet of sunflowers in memory of Vincent. The sunflower one of his most famous paintings 🌻......

I always wanted Home Free to cover this song. It's my favorite Don McLean song. Rob's voice adds that richness and emotion that brings a tear to my eyes. It captured the poignancy of the lyrics. Thanks!

They did an absolutely amazing job with this song. Rob is definitely the perfect voice for the song. But i also loved how Austin also sounded so good. I've always loved when Rob and Austin sing after each other. Don sounds absolutely amazing just like old times. Home Free also did a song with him on his new album from what i understand. I really enjoyed watching your reaction to this song.

This is such a great song by Don McLean! He originally did it in 1972. What a great remake with Home Free! Rob's voice is perfect for this song. Such a beautiful tribute to the sad life of the painter Vincent Van Gogh. He suffered from depression & committed suicide. He never saw any success during his life. But now his paintings are worth millions of dollars.

I went to an interactive multi sensory Van Gogh exhibit which was a lot like this video with his art being projected on 50ft high walls to music. Beautiful version of the song.

It's hard to believe that Don McLean first sang this in 1972 (wow do I feel old . . . wait, I am old). "American Pie" was filmed separately during the Covid lockdowns & it's so good to see them actually being able to sing together. Don McLean still sounds terrific & Home Free's harmonies are always outstanding. #HomeFree
5:45 - exactly what hit me when he sang the first lyrics - McLean still has such a strong, *flexible* voice! Vocal cords become less flexible as you age, never mind any other normal wear and tear that might have happened to your lungs to impact your breath support for producing sustained sound - it all changes your voice & tone, even though it also often gives character to a person's singing voice.
Seems astonishing that his voice is still so clear and flexible. Doesn't seem to have lost the tenor range, either (though I can't say I have a sense of how high his range was when he was young, nor whether this recording was done in the same key he originally wrote it in; singers sometimes transpose a song they wrote when they were younger, down a half step or full step, to accommodate an aging voice).
Edit: I guess the guys from Home Free took the melody during the bridge, with its higher notes, but McLean's still singing pure tenor range in a clear voice there.
Vincent is my favourite painter and this song is so perfectly written about him. ❤

First, I really love the humorous touch in "purchasing" a painting. Maybe the intention in this performance is to maintain an equal vocal presence to preserve its harmony. Both artists are great! Don McLean 's voice remains truly exceptional. Memories: this song brings me back to the 1970s - 1980s, especially songs like 'American Pie' with its intensive lyric., Thanks for your reaction

The title for their video is so misleading. It's actually Don featuring Home Free. He invited them to back him on this re-recording for his new album. They also back him on the title track, American Boys, which is a real bop.

And like with the Oak Ridge Boys and “Elvira”, this feels a bit like Don entrusting his work to someone who will safely carry it on.

This is truly beautiful. I don't normally listen to Home Free. They are very talented, but too country for my tastes. However, I'm very glad I decided to listen to this.
HF does a lot of songs that are not country.
@@Rkbmomma I somewhat realize that, but at the same time, I've heard enough of their country music that I'm not generally inclined to listen to them. It's just a matter of musical taste. As I said this was beautiful and I'm happy I gave it a chance.
Funny how HF songs have one listening more closely to the lyrics.

It isn't VanGO.... it is VanGOFF. Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine. Whatever, can never get through this song without tears.... if only Vincent could have known how loved he would be....
VanGoff is how it is pronounced in the UK. Vincent was Dutch and they pronounce it Van Go-ho or Van Ho-ho
@@Rkbmomma The VanGoff pronunciation is very close to the Dutch, just a bit harder GH sound...like in the German..one of those hard ones for English speakers to get their tounge around because we don't have that sound in our alphabet.... I just get bugged when they say VanGO. It was just drilled into my head by my art history professor in college.
