    I actually have wide feet and they are very comfortable. I bought them in a physical (skate) shop though, so that helped with getting the right size. I never had the "not rolling straight" problem either. I think they are great cheap starting skates.

    I got these same skates about a year ago as a starter skate. I knew they weren't going to be as great quality because of the lower price but I figured as a starter skate they would be fine. At first they where quite narrow but after using them for a few weeks they started to fit me better. I would recommend getting better parts. If you can wait and save up for better quality skates that's what I would recommend but if not I dont think these skates would be a bad choice.

    I had Rio skates for my first and second pair. (Limited Flower edition and the script) At that time I did not know about the Rio's quality but with them I learned a lot the basic stuff. And then I upgraded to moxi skates, Chaya Billie jean and Edea boots with roll line plates.
    I think if you want to buy your first skates but you are not sure if you continue skating for long time, Rio skates are still ok to buy.
    If you are sure that you skate as your hobby, do not buy them. I would recommend better skates.

    Started out on these and they were fine to me. Changed the bearings and wheels and after that they were really nice to roll on (just trailskating)! Never had any issues with the bushings/pulling to the side, so I never changed those. For me the boot started out as a good fit (narrow feet), but they got wider with use and were a bit on the large side for me after some months. Never experienced having any blisters, even with regular sneaker socks.
    Changed them out for Luna's, which are nearly double the pricepoint, and are incredibly comfy and a better fit, so I feel I have much more control now. I do prefer those, but I'm keeping my Rio's as back-up. They're not bad at all (at least mine aren't). Your left boot looked a bit odd as well, so might've been a faulty one? 🤔

      When you talked about the trucks being closer together, that hit deep with the Lunas vs the Impala. I was so used to the nice balance from the Impala that when I got my Lunas I could barely stand in them. The Luna trucks are soooooooo much closer than the Impalas!!! For real, nobody has beginner guides on that! A video on the various plate and truck distance would be fantastic as well! Nobody tells you about that when you're first starting out. I'm still struggling with the balance difference.

    I have old rio roller flats from like 2016 and I love them. Obviously they’re a different style to this and I find them a little bit heavy but for skates I bought simply to have fun and practice with they do the trick. I still use them even in 2022 like they’re 8 years old and still going strong with all their original parts. I would like to invest in a better pair of skates soon. But for now my rios do the trick

      I feel the same about this review.
      My daughter worked in a roller rink , wore these skates for a year and she’s pretty advanced. She’s still wearing the same pair on the local skate park and she can do advanced moves in them.
      She has changed out the wheels and bearings but the skates are great for the price, especially for those who can’t afford Moxi skates.
      To be honest, the Rios look more sturdy than the Moxi skates - it looks like the suede can wear out pretty quickly.

    So I bought these exact skates just a fortnight ago. I wear a womens UK 7.5/US 10 and found it really hard to get any other brand in my size that would not cost me the earth and seeing as I am only a beginner on Quads (I've had more experience on Inlines and have an Impala pair) I found I'd do some research. I hunted for reviews but just found unboxing videos made by fellow beginner Quad skaters.
    I'm so glad you have made a review on them. In all honesty, for me, so far so good..
    The.UK 8 ended up being a little big but I put a sports insole inside, a UK 7 would definitely have been too snug.
    The boot is pretty hard and caused bruising on my shins the first few days but I ended up wearing two pairs of socks and like I say, so far I'm happy but again I'm only a beginner 😊

    It’s hard to get skates in the UK, Rio roller seems to be the main brand apart from Moxie or Rookie skates which I was told by another skater not to buy. Then most things are cheaper versions found on Amazon etc. I found as someone with bigger feet (I wear a UK 8) that your choices are narrowed further. I ended up with a hard boot because it had enough decent reviews (Ventro Pro Turbo with 82A light up wheels, from a smaller company) and I didn’t know the difference with hard/soft boots. I do wonder if they are any decent. Seem okay so far but like you said as a beginner what do you really know!

      It's not hard to get skates in the UK at all. The UK, like the rest of the world, had a skate shortage during the skate boom of the pandemic but this has eased now. I'll agree its harder to find a brick and mortar shop to try before you buy but they are about and if you are prepared to travel then it's not impossible. I travelled 2 hours to try on some Chaya's. And there are certainly a lot more brands here than just Rio, Rookie and Moxi! I currently skate in Bauer quad conversions on SG Rock plates (huge number of UK skaters have Bauers, Bauer quads are part of UK skate culture) and Edea Classica's on Roll Line plates. Please don't give the wrong impression of the skate market in the UK. It is huge and varied. I do agree that with bigger feet your choice is narrowed, but that only really applies to crappy fashion skates. Also in terms of skate size, even though you're a UK 8, you'd be surprised to find that you'd probably fit a smaller skate in some brands. Rio 'trainer' style boots like the Rio Varsity come up really big so you'd probably fit a size 7 in those.

    • @franslam7398
      @franslam7398 2 года назад

      @@katelanchbury4848 if you had to travel 2 hrs to try on some skates I'd say it's hard to find skates here😂. Yes, in the UK many skaters convert Bauer's, but apart from I'd say three websites, most skates are on Amazon and if it's not the abundance of no-name skates then the main brands found is between Rio roller, rookie, moxi and LMNADE. Any others (Edea and the rest) never seem to have available sizes or component parts to create your own skates. That's been my experience.

    • @cunawarit
      @cunawarit 2 года назад

      The main UK trend seems to be to convert ice hockey boots to roller skates or to get something that looks like a hockey boot (Ventro Pro Turbo). This is the classic 90s HUGE skate look that's still going strong in the UK... There's a tonne of places to buy custom Ventros or converted hockey boots with a tonne of options for exactly the parts you want.
      Having said that though, it isn't hard to get skates in all styles in the UK (you don't have to go for the old fashioned 90s hockey boots), the online shops tend to be super helpful and many provide you with detailed sizing guides as well as free returns for exchanges.
      FWIW, the Rio Rollers are fine and the issue that Indy experienced is not the norm. Rio Roller makes some of the most popular rental skates for roller discos in the UK and roller discos use these super tough and reliable skates for years! Rio Roller is a solid and proper skate brand that caters to the budget market with decent products, don't let this review put you off.

    I dont even have to watch all of this as i came in to this with my own opinions.
    Only 2 weeks ago down the local skate park i had to stop a kid about 10 years old from thinking she could just droping in even though she could not skate flat ground competently but once i jumped up on the platform to talk her out of it and suggested she try learning how to pump from the bottom of the half pipe, i found that the heel of the boot had already tore away from the actual heel and helped her down from the platform and told her to head to her mum as i grabbed my skate bag .
    I introduced myself to mum and asked her how long had she had the skates for?
    Mum said 3 months but she loves them but she had enrolled her in classes at the local rink and they would not let her use her own skates.
    She had to use the rink skates and she hated how heavy their skates are so she never continued past lesson 2 .
    I had bring to her attention that her skates are a broken bones or worse waiting to happen and her daughter needs safty gear and supervision too. .
    Her daughter was going to attempt a 6" drop in with broken skates , no safty gear and no experience.
    I gently suggested It might be time to wind up the skate park session as its only that another adult stopped her from trying to kill herself on the ramps with broken gear.
    The tear in the heel could completely come away any min now and best she invest in some better skate asap if she loves it so much and a decent pair will be heavier like the ones at the rink unless she is willing to drop some serious cash on the next pair but as kids feet are always growing, start looking for a better quality pair second hand and the rink may be able to help you out there by putting the word out to anyone that dose lesson there regularly.
    Someone may have a good pair that they have grown out of for sale.
    A pair that they will allow on the local rink.
    The young girl did not want to take them off and insisted on skating , mum did not help the matter so i grabbed a roll of gaffer tape out of my kit and taped the boot back on to the heel and then taped the both skates , the whole boot to the plates and said toher mum , you may need to cut her out of them when you get home and pop them straight in the bin when you get them off.
    There was no repairing these.
    They where buggered.
    They are a toy and unsafe.
    I would not even concider these to be entry-level skates.
    If you actually like your kids, dont get them a pair of rio rollers, they are death traps.

    And I didn’t want to spend too much on a pair when I didn’t know if i was gonna like it

After adjusting the trucks and putting in a shorter toe stop I could do more with them. Borrowed a pair of hard wheels for indoor use, and that’s been a game changer for me. I’ve got a size a tiny bit bigger - and I wear two pairs of socks, so they are ok comfort wise, but I do get toe cramp sometimes. Hi
    I have similar rip rollers in UK size 9, second hand and fit well for my wide feet.
    And I'm a UK size 9 in normal footwear too.
    Interesting review.
    I'm new to skating so can't compare my feet in other skates yet.
    The boot does seem stiff, but again I can't compare to out skates yet.
    I'm just glad my feet don't hurt in them.
    They came with soft wheels for outdoors on them, but I also have original wheels too.
    I wanted to get another brand, but they were not available in my size.
    I think your right about the toe stop quality.
    I feel ok in my skates, just working on my balance and stopping.
    Not sure what is going on with your skate trucks?

    I wonder if the hot temperature is affecting how the cushions react? My regular skates sometimes do feel more squirly (is it squirrelly? or swirly?) on a super-hot day.
    A lot of people here use the entry level derby skates as their first learner/recreation/trail skates, could you review and compare those? Like, the Dart, R3, Rebel, GT-50 kind of level

    Open minded review really enjoyed watching. I have to say i have been skating with my rose rio rollers for a year now and i have not altered anything from the day i got them. The only problem is the wheel type, not for outdoors. It will change your experience if you do test adjustments and consider outdoor wheels (airwaves, flash etc)

I am a beginner skater so it was very nice hearing from someone with experience. It makes me want to try skating again with a different pair so thank you

    These were my first outdoor skates after the cheapo generic bottom of the line Chicago skates ((with plastic wheels)) this was a huge upgrade for me and helped me to get confident on skates outdoors. I had always skated indoors up until a few years ago. Anyways, it was all I could afford initially and I will always be grateful for my rio scripts! Also I switched out the bearings and wheels and that was obviously a huge game changer :)

    Hello Indy, I have these skates and the brand is Pretty fly. I used them to go to the skating rink on my birthday (oct 15) and they were actually pretty good in my first impression. The wheels were durable and the trucks looked like nylon but I don’t think think they caused me a problem, but I think they’re worth reviewing.

    I got a pair of xudrez cowhide quads and the wheels at first felt like super plasticy. After using the skates I felt the wheels again and they were actual rubber material. It did say their hardness before purchase. To me I like the Xudrez cowhides.

Wish I could take a class with you however I am in the UK :( Funny story - I just one day decided I wanted to skate again after many years (I was a kid since I last put skates on my feet). I shopped around on Amazon and came across Rio roller skates they had lots of great reviews and they looked amazing compared to other brands I viewed! I have the Rio Mayhem 2’s in black and green I LOVE THEM!!! I have only tried them 2 times and still need to learn to go fast and stop properly.

    Could it be that the plates or the trucks are not mounted on centered? Maybe when you relax and put your weight on straight it still puts your weight on one side pulling you to the side since it's not centered.

    Ive been skating on Rio Roller Luminas for about 6 months, just added slide blocks which dont sit where i need them to in order to slide both ways. The skates were fine until adding blocks, now my left skate travels just like in this video. It would be really handy when reviewing skates if you could please try attaching blocks for skate park use or recommending which will fit. There doesnt seem to be enough info out there in this reguard, especially for beginners. For example, I was sold this skate due to a tight budget. I was not told that plastic trucks are not advised for the park or that i would need blocks at some point in order to progress with doing tricks. Anyway, over 300 aussie dollars later and 6 months invested at the park and i still cant drop in, or slide and my jumps and turns are now dangerous so i have to look at purchasing new skates which i cant afford. (AND Im getting old) So, my skating dreams may be over.... really depressing

    Last year I restarted skating after 20 years break, I bought the rio milkshake… and I realized the same: “shaking” material sound, super loose trucks, drifting to the side (like really hard foot control about directions) - but the worst is the shoe tongue!!! It doesn’t matter how often I re-laced the boots, after 3 steps it’s slipping to the side :( don’t know any solution, it really freaks me out… that was wasted money :(

    Could the issue have been a defect in one or more of the bearings? If the bearings in one wheel aren't turning properly it could pull you to the side? I've never had that problem myself but wondering if that was the problem?

    • @SapphireeCos
      @SapphireeCos 2 года назад +1

      Could be! My guess would be that the plates are mounted very crooked. When indy filmed her skates the toe stop was so out of place compare to the boot. But I am probably wrong, indy would notice if the plates are wrong placed. It's hard to tell what is wrong with these skates :")

    • @galinageorgieva8554
      @galinageorgieva8554 2 года назад

      It could also be the bushings, but the point of her reviews is to see, if they work fine right out of the box, because skaters, who are just starting, would not know what is right or wrong, if they don't have any experience.

    • @liesjelualockse6377
      @liesjelualockse6377 2 года назад +1

      If it were the bearings Indy would have noticed with the spin test. I suspect it's the actual mounting on the plate OR the actual material of the bushings is so bad the eleasticity differs throughout

He tightened the wheels to help me skate, but I'm constantly jerking and trying to keep my balance. What can help me with that? 2nd question is that I have the same problem that you had with the Rios.my left boot kept going to the right. And the truck is secured by a screw so I need a screw driver. You've been around for a little while so do you know anything, tricks or shortcuts that can make skates go straight ahead as thy should?

    I had Rio Roller Kicks as my first skate and apart from blisters from the fabric in the tongue, they were okay. The back wheels were quite far forward towards the centre of the boot so it felt like I was falling back a lot and upset my balance. I tend to find trucks on most cheaper rollerskates I've used pull inwards, so now I skate inlines only
