I've had one of these boxes before, and have to say, for what you get, they're really quite good. Despite coming from a package, all the food was tasty and perfect for camping (what I was doing at the time), plus easy to prepare... Usually "just add water". Edit: Oh, but the creamer was disgusting.

I always find it so interesting to see what the military rations are like from different places and the things that they can create. Don't most rations have to last a long time? It's impressive how much they can get in there and how long some of these products can last.

It's either dehydrated or airtight which both make it hard for fungi/bacteria to do their thing
So they'd last long but not forever also keeping them in a coolbox or a fridge also greatly helps
