      Really my uncle is blind, he fell in love with a woman that looks... Not quite good enough... He ask us about her look and we just described her with... Not pretty and she is sound of ugly but after a week he told us "hey who is going with me to her house? I will marry her!"
      Grandma (his mother) refused but then he went all alone, and that was a big step! He went there and returned with sad face, why? As they refuse him just for his disability..
      He just asked about her look so that he could know who is she... Just like when you get to know a person on Facebook that doesn't have pictures... You will ask what you look like... Is that right?

    • @emmax9514
      @emmax9514 7 лет назад +67

      Being physically attracted to someone is reasonably important though and they did say they like the way a person feels. If they think someone who's thin feels better than feeling a bunch of fat under someone's arm then it's pretty normal. Sighted people also generally like thin people for their own reasons? Sorry you came to this video looking for some sort of inspiration porn where you'd be inspired by the people in the video and how great they supposedly are but they're normal people and that's how things are.

      Fatima D regardless what pc culture tells you, there's a genetic advantage to choosing a healthy, attractive mate. Research shows that what most people find attractive is really just average (they basically found the average facial shape, eye structure, distance etc using technology to blend 100+ faces into one) combined with facial symmetry. It is an instinctual thing that is coded in most people to choose a mate that has the best chance of being reproductively viable (having children that survive to reach reproductive age.) I.e. not angry, mopey, obese, self destructive, low intelligence, etc.
      The same argument completely annihlates the argument from trans community that it is homophobic to not be attracted to a trans person. Bullshit, most people have an instinctual desire to have children. But SJW/PC culture tries to tell us we are bad people if we won't date them. By their same logic it would be wrong for anyone to ever reject anyone.
      It's possible to just be polite with out drinking the PC kool-aid and flaying yourself anytime you're convinced you are guilty of wrong-think.

I never really though about it before but... how a person fits with you physically, or envelop your hands when they hold them is actually quite beautiful. How a persons hands feel cold or warm, plump or skinny. Everyone holds hands differently too.
    How truly beautiful :)

It's more sad the fact that you are treating blind people like it's a bad thing, they probably love the way they were made, they would rather be treated as a normal person than to have someone act fake and not laugh at a simple joke. Blind people have senses of humor.

      I also think they want to be perceived as normal, and that includes judging people based on their appearance. they know that others do it, so by overcompensating to some extent, they show that they also have this experience. doesn't apply to everyone in the video, but definitely did to a couple of them

      The older guy was the deepest. This should have been called "How Blind People Explain Attraction" but oh well. I can understand them still picking up on things that attract them, like some kind of vibe or body language/communication. An unspoken sexual chemistry would still need to be there, i think. But the girl with the blue shirt....I didn't understand her responses. It's almost like she just wanted to go along with what other people say even though it doesn't really matter to her aesthetically. As in, she cares what other people think. That was a little bit of a bummer (but, I guess that was her point. Just because she's blind doesn't mean she's not shallow)

    I understand that we all maintain a level of shallowness, but it's interesting to see that a big indicator of an attractive person for these people were "thin" or "go to the gym." It makes me wonder if they are even more likely to latch into the notions of beauty, attractiveness, or sex appeal that is is the media standard? I'm not angry that non of these people were attracted to people outside the norm, but I do think it's problematic that we didn't see one indication that someone not "thin" or with a body that clearly goes to the gym" could be attractive. Especially when you consider the intersectionality of this video...
    Thumbs up if you agree!

    • @azeenanj9185
      @azeenanj9185 7 лет назад +8

      elizabeth carter well they don't see so they don't have much indication about the attractiveness of someone but if they're thin they at least know that the person has an attractive body, the truth is that most people aren't attracted to fat body what makes a fat person attractive is their face and nice body proportions but those are things a blind person can't really know

    • @13PurpleAngels
      @13PurpleAngels 7 лет назад +28

      Although that's how a lot of people see it, that's not really accurate though. Thinness and going to the gym do not equal health. And health isn't equal to attractiveness. Someone who has a disability or a long term condition or a short term disease or just isn't that healthy can still be attractive to tonnes of people. People are socialised to hate their bodies for not looking thin, and believe that they can't be attractive, and it's really harmful.

    • @whateverwhatever7210
      @whateverwhatever7210 7 лет назад +11

      Health is equal to attractiveness. It's biology, so we can have healthy children. Sure, people can be attracted to those with disabilities, but most people when looking for a partner don't picture being with someone who has a disability. Ask anyone who their "dream partner" is, and they'll most likely picture someone who looks fit and healthy. Most attractive celebrities are fit. Someone with Unhealthy or unfit bodies CAN be attractive, but biologically people who are fit are the most desired.

    So many people in the comments were upset, and felt disillusioned because we blind people are… people.
    Right after saying how shallow the girl was, someone would call her ugly or not attractive. Or people would talk about the deformed eyes (which isn't how all blind people's eyes look, by the way). But, you aren't being hypocrites at all.
    And why did you need this video to validate that inner beauty is important? If you don't actually believe it, or you find yourself thinking of the physical, why should blind people? We're all apart of the same society, affected by the same ideals.
    Scent, the way someone's arm feels, the sound of their voice are all things we notice. But in such a visual world, why wouldn't a blind person also wonder at someone's physical appearance? I ask my friends for basic descriptions so that I have an idea of what the person looks like, and then their opinion. Sighted people get their friends' opinions as well and it isn't seen as shallow. It's what you do once you've learned all you can, if you decide how you feel about someone on appearance alone, that determines the kind of person you are.
    PS, someone said (I hope jokingly) that they expected them to say that beauty was black. If your fully blind, there is no blackness, or obstruction, it's just nothing. Think about the view behind your head, with only sound, touch, and scent to tell you what's happening. That's what a fully blind person "sees". Though vision is on a scale, so "blind" may not mean fully/completely blind.

      Well said. Our society does have issues with judging people as people based on appearance, but we also seem to have a problem where because of this, we've shamed ourselves into having very vapid conversations on the topic of appearance as it relates to romance, where you're either a "good person" who isn't shallow about appearance or you're a "bad person" who solely judges people on appearance.
      As if it's impossible to care about appearance and care about other things. Like you have to either devalue appearance completely or you're shallow, which is just weird and unrealistic.
      I think what makes it hard to talk about is that whether we can blame it on biology or upbringing, the reality is that a lot of us have instinctive, internal reactions that are "stuck" for the duration of our lives, with regards to appearance. Sort of like how someone who grew up in a predominantly white area might have an instinctive kind of surprised reaction, internally, when they see a black person, even if they're not racist at all and have been living in an area that has a lot of black people for years. And even though it's easy to say that in the case of race or in the case of someone being "ugly", you can and should choose to treat them exactly as you would anyone else... that kind of thing starts to go out the window when we're talking about picking a romantic partner. Cause then we're talking about this fanciful stuff of finding the magical perfect partner (or as close to perfect as possible). And at that point, people are being told that settling for something that is less than what you absolutely adore and super duper want is a bad idea. So naturally, the "stuck" reactions people have are going to come into play.
      In other words, say somebody finds overweight people attractive, but they're told that being fat is shameful. They're probably going to say "screw that", quietly or otherwise, and go for the overweight person anyway. Same goes for those who find thin people attractive or any other categorization of appearance. Cause romance is not rational at all... it tosses rationality out the window.

      No one's shallow for wanting an attractive partner.
      Two of them were genuinely shallow people though, I mean public approval-seeking from strangers by ''being seen with attractive people'' was just weird.
      People defend that vanity because they're blind, don't fully see them as equal and therefor treat them with condescending double-standards. If seeing people said the same thing they'd have gotten pounced in the comment section.

      ikr... people commenting saying that we didn't get our "inspiration porn from disabled people" and "sorry that they're just normal people" is funny because it sounds like they're just trying to make their own shallow opinions feel validated by these disabled people. kinda like thinking oh if even a disabled person doesn't think it's bad, it must really be a normal way to think.
      strange that they wouldn't ask themselves why someone who can't actually see physical beauty would have the same opinion about it as they do lol. (i mean, it's not like these opinions have been heavily influenced by the media, so we all ended up with the same shallow opinions, regardless of whether we're disabled) but nooo that couldn't possibly be it. because even without their sight, if their shallow opinions match up to mine then that automatically means they are a biological thing that's uncontrollable and non-changeable. lolllllll.
      tbh one would assume that having a disability or any hardship in general would make you more open-minded and less worrisome about physical attributes because in reality they have less meaning than society tends to give them. especially compared to finding someone with good characteristics such as being kind and honest first because it's something you have to work for and teach yourself, not given to you with genes. but i guess it's not possible for all of us to grow our minds.

    • @cristinaarias9026
      @cristinaarias9026 7 лет назад +42

      Preeti K Eh, disabled people aren't a monolith. They are people, that means they can be as good and bad as you and I. You are actually reducing them to a stereotype of purity that seems as harmful as the monster/freak stereotype. Treating disabled people like angels or saints robs them of all the complexity they have as human beings.
      I do agree that beauty standards are fucked up though. And that this video should've been named "Blind people disscuss attraction" rather than beauty. However it isn't these people's fault that they've been socialized to find certain things attractive 'cause we've all been, so why are they held to a different standard than sighted people?

    • @xoz--
      @xoz-- 7 лет назад +2

      Cristina Arias Cristina Arias no one is expecting them to act a certain way because they are blind. It is however a natural thing a human feels when he is faced with some sort of hardship in his life, that he would be more inclined to see things more clearly than he has been taught. You could argue that being blind might not be considered a hardship to some people because they don't think of it that way but it definitely means your body is not as functional as it was designed to be. Which means that you would struggle, and struggles are the things that make us grow.
      And make us wise.
      The sad thing was that this wasn't just one blind person in a video who had the same opinion but multiple. Which is why I mentioned that the media is at fault for influencing people to want a certain type of person. And yes they are exposed to it the same as everybody else. But you do have to take into account that we should all be trying to think critically of what we see and hear before we implement it into our brains as things we want, rather than things we have been taught to want. Not every blind person or people in general will be good hearted or open minded people, I know that, but I would've thought there'd be at least one that didn't care about looks in this video. Especially because they wont be able to see physical bodies, so why would it even matter? Even sighted people know that looks aren't as important as they seem. So I find it difficult to understand why a physically beautiful person would be important to a non sighted person. No one minds beauty but... it shouldn't be the priority.

    • @cristinaarias9026
      @cristinaarias9026 7 лет назад +2

      Preeti K Okay, I understand better now what you meant. Let me adress your points.
      Firstly, I'm of the mind that hardships don't better people necessarily, but that facing adversity is when your true character is revealed.
      Secondly, it is quite unfair to make a judgement of all blind people based on the responses of only four individuals-one of which was sighted for most of his life, having definitely lost his vision 9 years ago, he'd clearly be more influenced by our society's obsession with a certain type of physical beauty-.
      Thirdly, I do agree we should analyze and criticize the media we consume. And I believe this video could've been better, because I honestly didn't really get a feel for what they found beautiful or attractive. All the answers were kinda vague, maybe they would've needed more time to elaborate -and there's the matter of how much footage was filmed and what we actually got to see, not to mention how it was edited-. What's more the questions seemed geared into making these blind people explain themselves to us sighted folks instead of delving in their own particular experiences and feelings.

    • @xoz--
      @xoz-- 7 лет назад +1

      Cristina Arias you make some good points, i didn't think about people's true characters getting revealed in the face of adversity. that's more realistic than someone being changed in a good way by the troubles they face.
      i would hope not all blind people are consumed by the media bc i would really like them to think for themselves. but i guess that can be hard because you do have to rely on others if you aren't able to do something yourself and since they cannot see the world, they are solely going off what other people tell them... so i guess it wouldn't be helpful for them to always question other people's opinions and what they're saying as they could get offended and cause trouble for them.
      i feel like the video was purposely edited like this so that the viewers would see that their thoughts aren't any different than the average person. or maybe they thought that they had to answer this way because they wanted to be relatable. who knows.

      Sum Mors Actually if you compare beauty standards from all over the world you'll get that in fact, the concept of beauty can be very different and subjective, and depends a lot on the culture you've grown up in. Search for videos about it if you want: it's true.

      Sum Mors if beautify isn't subject to a certain ascent, they why did one of my friends and my sister find Ed Sheeran highly attractive yet me an another friend agreed on him being fuck ugly? Also why enough the majority of men prefer heathy weight women attractive (because of reproduction values) but yet there are still men that find very overweight women attractive. I'm sure the person that write that comment, is well aware, of the fact that they're certain facial features that are widely held to be more attractive then other, same going for weight and body shape. But they are also well aware that people still have different preference, and that attractive ness is subjective to a certain extent. If it wasn't then "fat chaser's" wouldn't exist, and I, plus my friend would find Ed Sheeran attractive.

    • @ashanab.7105
      @ashanab.7105 7 лет назад +32

      I don't think it's sad. Anyone with sight that says "Looks 100% don't matter" is bullshit. Yes there are people more open minded but at the end of the day, love at first sight isn't real but lust or attraction at first sight is. Most people's partners are someone they find physically attractive, even if they aren't attractive to typical society, they are still attractive to that specific person. This video proves that. Humans can't help it, it's kind of innate. I don't blame the blind people tbh, just because I can't see doesn't mean I want to spend the rest of my life with someone who im not attracted to at all, just like im sure most people with sight wouldn't want to either.

    • @derekg5563
      @derekg5563 7 лет назад +11

      "Anyone with sight that says "Looks 100% don't matter" is bullshit."
      Wow. I bet people who are actually like that wouldn't appreciate that comment. You are pretty much deciding for such people what they think matters. Sure, there are people that might say they don't care about their looks, but do, but that shouldn't make you closed-minded to people who actually don't care about looks; it shouldn't make you want to reserve the term "bullshit" for any of those people that might exist. There were much better ways to make your point than to make a potentially generous mindset into "bullshit."
      As it happens, I am a person with sight who might actually consider that looks 100% don't matter statement. I guess you would tell me I'm full of bullshit, and might not consider that I could just be unusual? Sure, looking at pretty things or people is an enjoyable experience, but it's not required for me to make an extremely strong connection to someone, even a romantic one. I would enjoy looking at that person's face, but not because it was physically attractive, but because when I look at that face, I know I'm looking at someone I connect to on a deep level. But I guess you want to call that bullshit just because you are threatened by the fact that there could possibly be less shallow people than you, so you must bring it down, or insist that all humans are equally shallow, etc etc.

    Bottom line: People perceive beauty by two things
    1. How it affects them emotionally with what their own senses can connect to (i.e. make they feel nice and find to be pleasing).
    2. From other people's perceptions and opinions.
    But naturally unless you do a serious analysis on your understanding of a subject you would just have a vague unclear notion on it.

They know their partner won't call them "You're looking beautiful" but they will surely hear "You're wonderful". I think being awesome is more important than being beautiful

      jack travis v I don't think they're being more shallow, but maybe it's hard for them to explain it for people with sight to understand. They're reactions seem like they're trying really hard to make it relatable to someone with vision, and not entirely expressing their thoughts/thought process towards beauty. But what do I know

    What's sad is when humanity thinks of beauty...Or attractiveness. We only think of the body. Our hair, The pigment of our skin, How much makeup up you have. And completely forget that true beauty.....is something that is created from within. It is our soul, How we treat others and how we treat ourselves, It is the smile upon our face, The good things we have too say about Others. Its what you believe in and support. Thats what makes you beautiful. If you have a good heart and care of others and the world, Treat people how you want too be treated, Dont gossip or belittle about others, Stay away from negative drama and showing yourself respect. THAT is true beauty. You can live with demons and expect too go too heaven (If you believe in such things) I dont hold any religious beliefs or wish too change others. Just sharing my own personal perspective that we hold within

    • @derekg5563
      @derekg5563 7 лет назад +6

      Yeah, people just gloss over non-physical beauty, and just dismiss it as a cliche. But imagine if these people truly embraced it! There is so much beauty in non-physical beauty, and it's almost like people have heard that so many times that they're allergic to it or something, and insist on physical beauty as the king/queen. I wish people would give non-physical beauty a more serious try than what they normally do, just hear someone say it, think, oh, I guess that makes sense, but then the next day just dismiss it and go back to how they always lived their life. But one of the big things about non-physical beauty is that you look beyond your instincts, you don't dismiss it just because your brain's first thought is how someone looks, you go deeper than that.

    • @theleoslight6611
      @theleoslight6611 7 лет назад +1

      Derek G I agree :) i believe we are multidimensional beings having a human experience🌏🙏💜True Beauty is within. We are a reflection of our inner world. Most western population is still only conscious of our physical body's, When we really have Mental, Emotional, And energetic bodies as well. Which all merge into our consciousness creating our state of being. Influencing how we See and Treat the world around us. Your body is only a vessel or vehicle for your true self. Once you admire that. you are able too see and feel beyond the 5 common senses. Into your Truth and light🙏 Namaste💜😊

    You can find someone attractive by just looking at them but to fall in love with them, you have to meet them and spend time with them.
    I knew a girl that when we first met I didn’t think anything of her, she didn’t stand out but when we became friends and started spending time together I slowly fell in love with her and found her very attractive.

    How do they "define beauty when they are blind and don't know what beauty is". Then people in the comments are like "someone can teach them". First of all, if someone teaches you what beauty is, then beauty it is what they think and not necessarily what beauty is really for you. Beauty is also subjective, video should be called "things blind people think are beautiful/fulfilling" because they don't know and can't understand what beauty truly is. Video is absolutely stupid.
