It's dated and it shows, BUT it's also one of the most reliable cars in the class due to it being perfected over many, many years. The latest, isn't always the greatest. Owner satisfaction is very high and that speaks volumes. Combine that with a great warranty, low purchase price - and let's get real, it's not a BAD car by any means - it's worth a look even after 10yrs on the market. I think it's still a good looking car, even if the style is tired. It's aged very well IMO.
@stirange in my country its one of the few only good sport looking sedan with a sub 21k price tag, while most brand starts at 24/5 onwards. its cheap and it works.
That front end agressive look is classic Mitsubishi. Its what sets the Lancer apart from the Camry, Altima, and Accord, which all just copy each other every redesign. Update the interior and it goes from being fine to great. Dont change the drivetrain at all. Keep the engine, yes even keep the Jatco CVT8 (Nissan is the company having issues programming their Jatco CVTs, not Mitsubishi) because its very good for mpg and dare I say, reliable. Also keep the same chassis. The power is not underpowered at all, thats just the impression some first time CVT owners have, because they're not used to the way the transmission operates.
Each trim of Lancer seems to still have a purpose. It's a car for iconoclasts. The discounts right now are good and will be even better as it gets fazed out. The LE stylistically is appealing. Some owners have said the 2.0L is acceptable. The 2.4L is obviously a good step up, yet it makes sense why Mitsubishi created this package as a last of production car. 31-32 MPG combined isn't too bad. It might do even better depending on a driver or conditions. For conservative drivers averaging 35 MPG seems like a reasonable possibility. It's a curious last offering. It's on a test drive list for sure. The one biggest plus is still the generous warranty and most likely very high reliability.
I just bought a 2017 manual Lancer and I love it! It's stylish on the exterior, especially with a spoiler. The interior doesn't blow anyone away but it feels smooth and responsive on the roads. It was either the Lancer or the Hyundai Elantra Sport (manual, of course).
Although in the past few years they didn't do so well, I feel they're doing a pretty decent job of slowly building themselves back up. Just purchased a 2017 Outlander GT with the touring package and it rides just as nice as much higher level cars such as the Lexus RX. Having owned Lexus vehicles brand new from the dealer (GS300, LX470) and driving the RX (2016 model), it actually is just as smooth as the aforementioned vehicles for a fraction of the price. Build quality is also pretty good.
Regardless of the criticisms I still like this car and have the GSR Lancer in Amethyst Black on order. I'll do a vid when it arrives. The price here in New Zealand is $24,990 which is about US$18,000
Have owned my Limited edition for a week. Its a good value but by no means is it fun. I dig the screen. Cvt is Weird. I came from an rx8 so the so-so fuel mileage is stellar. Love the way it looks. Thanks for the review.
I have 2 of these Lancers currently. Stilll a great car and serves all purposes well. These 2 are my number 25 and 26 of Mitsubishi cars I have owned. There are a lot of knockers on Mitsubishi but they make great reliable cars. Yes the p,at form is old but still a great car.
I've got this but in Australia its 18 inch wheels and no apple car play and only 1 power thingy not 2. There is nothing in the centre console for power. I own one and i love it
In Australia it’s called the BLACK EDITION. Good thing is the black interior roof liner and pillars fit the EVO’s which is a much nicer feel than the grey interior.
Mitsubishi have a really good interior design going with the eclipse cross. They could bring some of that here. With updated interior this will be a great car!
Hey for 22 grand car with a manual transmission and a 10 year warranty is an incredible value for a brand new car. Yeah the tech and the powertrain is 10 years old that just means its reliable and the bugs are fixed and almost any mechanic can work on the car, not just the dealer. If you're looking for a new car as a new car this isn't bad from a value perspective.
its a decent work car here in Puerto Rico yet they sell well . gets the job done for basic transport. own 2010 mitsu lancer manual rock solid !great review BTW! new subscriber
Thanks for bringing up how your bike fit in the trunk. I would like to actually see how a bike fits in each of the vehicles you review. Looking forward to the driving review on this one. Too bad not a manual though - is this version available in limited trim? If it's reliable, might be worth a look and not a bad looking sedan.
I have an exact Mitsubishi and I want to know if im able to change the rear bumper to a dual exhaust and add another exhaust, if not can i change the exhaust that it has for a bigger one? if i cant, is it because it is fuel economy or eco.
Time and time again, you gotta keep reminding close-minded people that Mitsubishi does not want to focus on the Sedan/Compact market at all because they know they've lost and it's not worth the money refreshing for half a benefit. And to anyone thinking Mitsubishi are having it rough financially, you have absolutely no idea how wrong you are.
Dellano White I think mitsu wanted to make it a hybrid at one time! yes I do think they discontinued it too bad it was badness on 4 wheels although expensive here in Puerto Rico!
If they offerd the same features on their vehicles to every country their sales figures wouldn't be so terrible that maybe they could afford a new platform
looks nice but those rims need to be at least 17 inches. But the the fact that the red leather stitching and metallic pedals is only on a limited edition car is kinda lame. For ex, the 2017 Hyundai Elantra Sport has those things as standard features along with push button start ... and it has way more horsepower and torque
buildmorefarms100 because my car is 8yrs old and the interior looks the same they haven't changed or done anything new. They stop production of the Evo and just make lancers now. It's sad because it looks like they've given up and have no creativity. The car looks bland and outdated.
Sure it's an old design and its small compared to newer cars. But there are a few Pros: 1. Discount pricing 2. Long warranty 3. Cheap AWD sedan 4. Still better than a Fiat 500L or Nissan Versa Sedan
Just got the ES and the car is great idk why people are hating on why it looks like the 05'. I'm about to go full Asian on this lancer have spit out cooked rice
Mitsubishi must be struggling in their lineup never advertised them anymore I don't think anyone pays attention to Mitsubishi anymore. I do believe Kia and Hyundai took the place although both of the manufacturers have better warranties it seems Mitsubishi must be losing money the Lancer still has the same body from 2008 which was 9 years ago still remember when they came out. I too still like Mitsubishi but miss the older genrations from the 90s to early 2000s liked the Galants, Endeavors, Mirages, Lancer, Eclipse and Diamante which the flagship lineup from Mitsubishi but been discontinued for years very seldom Dave does reviews on these cars.
I drove one, the CVT is absolutely horrible! Then I drove the 5 speed, way better. Sorry Mitsubishi but your technology is 10 years behind, most newer cvt's at least pretend to shift on their own. That being said I'm not a fan of any car with CVT it just takes all the fun out of driving.
Mitsubishi could gave the U.S. the Grand Lancer interior which indeed looks awesome 2017 owners are stuck with tiny updates if you can call it that but its an 08 for sure might be 2017 in the front but from every other view its an 08 yikes hoping for an performance edition not an glossy edition with that same 2.0L ,people just buy an older model and purchase your new bumper you'll save money
Very nice car. But indeed for a limited edition you should expect more than a couple black details on the outside. Its almost the same as my 2008 Lancer. Except the stitches on the interior, and no apple or android connection. The camera on the back is in a very weird place, with a sort of roof around it...not nicely done. For the front a big +...very nice frontbumper and LED-lights. But i like the Jet Fighter Grille better. Nice car overall, but as you mentioned in the vid...not too special for a limited edition.
Hey Dave. This vehicle needs to go. Not sure why they even still sell it or that Mirage/G4 which is worse than this. Mitsubishi used to have decent cars about 10 years ago.
My se from 09 has 12 more HP same Interrior bar the touchscreen and pedals. It set me back 5k cad with taxes and other fees. This car isn't terrible but it's not worth the money either, needs special sauce.
I own this car I wasn't even sure the had 2 limited edition or maybe I miss understood but my main problem with this car is the power and the name it carry ok interior is not all crazy but they could made a the motor more powerful not like the Evo because you stopped making them but it's a limited edition go alittle out with it not to crazy I just wish the motor had more powerful at least like 200+ or just 200
Please bring it in thialand i swear ill buy it instantly i ignores the old and boring features...all i need is a freaking lancer lol ill take it cmon now mitsubishi come to me and ignore those haters im ur fans here bring em to me
It's a proven design that has all the kinks sorted out, no recalls no bullshit. People who buy lancers want a reliable car. They are well built cars, the money goes to proper screws and fasteners that hold their place.
i have it to i like the color but i feel like i should go for the es. not much you can do with a 2.0l and i want to make it fast or turn it into an evo. feel like a 2.4l would be a better start. what do yall think?
for the price Raven it is, especially considering any V6 car or 4 cycl car that'd be faster are way higher in price where i live i can get a fully tricked out 2.4L GTS model for about 26k the base model dodge charger starts at 35k so with taxs at least 40k, audi's lowest offering is 45k with taxs nissans aren't reliable anymore, subaru's great but a WRX is about 29k with nothing in it and a manual box which i don't want (personal preference) it'll also run me about $1,500 more in insurance rates, v6 camry is 40k so if you can find a car thats new faster than this 2.4L Lancer for about 26k which is how i configured the one i want I'm all ears.
I've driven 3 generations of the mitsubishi lancer (1993, 2001 and 2012), currently own a 2015 ASX. I respect mitsubishi as a brand... but this is just sad. Why put out a limited edition version of something they've already phased out?
Here in europe it's the ASX and RVR in Canada and Japan. I just got mine a few weeks ago. Brand new and heavily discounted; I only paid about 70% of what it cost originally. I guess the dealership was trying to get rid of the few 2015 ones they had remaining. It's a good car, not a lot of power or flash, but for my daily needs it's more than enough.
I remember that when I rented a car the other day, they got me lancer and it was pretty fun to drive but that was it. Way far behind compared to other manufacturer. Simply pathetic. Can't even imagine how fast it will depreciate and low resale value will be
Dave no it doesn't say much about any of the cars you review, when you always start out talking about the apps and touch displays. Glaze over that quickly and tell us more engineering and performance and quality type things that really matter. Apps don't make the car go. Why not pop the hood and show us the engine?
I now have a 08 lancer but im bored, its too old..............and this is almost the same car. As they dont sell it anymore, its time to go to the Alfa Romeo dealer and buy a Giulia instead =) A real sports sedan =)

My 2012 Lancer, bought new, still running with no issues. 10 years warranty is a plus.
finally some sense
@stirange in my country its one of the few only good sport looking sedan with a sub 21k price tag, while most brand starts at 24/5 onwards. its cheap and it works.

A 10 year-old platform doesn't mean a bad platform. Some things just holds up to time
I just bought a 2017 manual Lancer and I love it! It's stylish on the exterior, especially with a spoiler. The interior doesn't blow anyone away but it feels smooth and responsive on the roads. It was either the Lancer or the Hyundai Elantra Sport (manual, of course).

I own this car and lemme tell you that thing can race. its build up speed is incredible. I have an all black exterior and interior and its crazy asf
@BigBoyChubbs -_- nope all stock, and it’s not built to be a fast car, but if you know how to drive you can do decent again others with better cars.
Even though it has an old design, this car is built to last.. I dont like cars with new design but horrible engine...
Regardless of the criticisms I still like this car and have the GSR Lancer in Amethyst Black on order. I'll do a vid when it arrives. The price here in New Zealand is $24,990 which is about US$18,000
If you bought a 3 yr old one in decent shape, no one could tell the diff.and you would save a lot of money.
And that’s why I choose the lancer. It’s looks and roomy interior. But I recommend on getting it with Navi and sound system
Have owned my Limited edition for a week. Its a good value but by no means is it fun. I dig the screen. Cvt is Weird. I came from an rx8 so the so-so fuel mileage is stellar. Love the way it looks. Thanks for the review.
The best thing about this video was Hershey the dog.
I was gonna disagree BUT damnit that doggo is charming as heck 😊
They are killings me with that USB that looks like someone installed it in their garage

With a key 🔑 to start a car 👍👍👍
i have a 2017 se great car with a cvt hard to get use too but it is a great car i love it
Tell me about it
its a decent work car here in Puerto Rico yet they sell well . gets the job done for basic transport. own 2010 mitsu lancer manual rock solid !great review BTW! new subscriber

Nice video if you had the choice of the 2L or the 2.4 at the same price what would you go with thanks
The 2.4 duhh !!! Fasterrr

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the Evo winning the war against the STI? And Mitsubishi is struggling, especially in the North American market.
Will there be a review on the Mazda CX-5?
jazzygirl24100 piece a junk ,check outlander sport 2017
They are still making it?
matthew herrera , was gonna ask same cos they've been so quiet for a while.
matthew herrera it will end production I believe next month
A 10-year old platform and it shows.. Mitsubishi must be struggling. Smells of Suzuki before they pulled out of several markets..
Chris Tillery just a lazy car company with huge ego
They gave up on electronics and now they're giving up on the car market as well.
Chris Tillery they discontinued the evo right?
Dellano White I think mitsu wanted to make it a hybrid at one time! yes I do think they discontinued it too bad it was badness on 4 wheels although expensive here in Puerto Rico!
If they offerd the same features on their vehicles to every country their sales figures wouldn't be so terrible that maybe they could afford a new platform
Whats the wheel size on this car? Why the huge side walls? Looks weird.
Don't know if I should choose the limited edition or the ES.

I dont want a great looking car, i want a reliable car. That's why i bought a Lancer EX.
ITS NOT THAT EXCITED BUT WHEN I GET TO IT!
1. REPLACE ENGINE WITH EVO
2. MAKE EXTERIOR CHANGES
3. MAKE THIS POS INTO A NEW LANCER = A MASTERPIECE!
As someone who loves the lancer and had a evo this is just sad.
Why? It is a reliable, inexpensive car with a long warranty. It even has apple car play. If you love the Lancer why is this sad....it is a Lancer.
buildmorefarms100 because my car is 8yrs old and the interior looks the same they haven't changed or done anything new. They stop production of the Evo and just make lancers now. It's sad because it looks like they've given up and have no creativity. The car looks bland and outdated.
buildmorefarms100 it needs a regular auto transmission with paddles.
@@jimmypena2442 Nah, Mitsubishi CVT works just fine. Peak efficiency > performance.
Hi Dave: which one is a better buy: The Lancer GT or the Volkswagen Jetta TSI?
Jetta
Conrado Abreu , get a Jetta. Just get rid of it at 100 thousand miles
Sure it's an old design and its small compared to newer cars.
But there are a few Pros:
1. Discount pricing
2. Long warranty
3. Cheap AWD sedan
4. Still better than a Fiat 500L or Nissan Versa Sedan
Kamaka Chang its fwd
ES 2.0 and LE 2.0 are FWD
ES 2.4, SE 2.4, & SEL are AWD
Kamaka Chang ah yeah I noticed after they offered awc or what ever on higher trim, my mistake
Mitsubishi is back on the road again. New EV technology and new design care coming out again!
Why doesnt it have navigation?
do they stop making lancer
Calf augmentation?
Nope, just hard work :-)
Just got the ES and the car is great idk why people are hating on why it looks like the 05'. I'm about to go full Asian on this lancer have spit out cooked rice
I like it some people say it looks like a car from 2005 but I don't mind it
is the le awd?

Bland but reliability is pretty great with a good warranty. Might as well go buy the 2.4 liter for less money, just without the black wheels.
Limited edition translates to limited sales numbers.
Cool looking ride. Dave-don't forget to mention that Mitsubishi comes with a 10 year warranty!
I didn't know Mitsubishi was still selling cars in the US.
the bestest
This is last year for the lancer period worldwide.
Thank you for your taking the time to leave a comment - Dave
why everybody have a problem with it
it's a simple car wtf
Exactly. It's a car.
@@everymandriver You would agree its reliable and capable of hitting 200k trouble free miles, even with the polarizing CVT8? I know I would.

canonlybeme4life you acting like he’s the one who made the car
This car would have been cool in 2005
Kurtis Bishop yeah my 05 ralliart was cool in 05 but this is getting embarrassing now.
The car is okay, but it needed a 2.0L engine, 16 inch rims & a good 4 speed transmission. sometimes, old & simple things goes a long way.
Old is gold. People just want new crap all the time which is why they complained about this being an old platform.
Love my loaded sel
As exciting as watching the grass grow

I got mine brand new with a spoiler and sound system for 15,000 brand new 13 miles lol.

Why is this car still on sale? like seriously.
Because people keep buying it?
Even though the design looks old the engine of this beast car is awesome.. 😎
It's a proven design that has all the kinks sorted out, no recalls no bullshit. People who buy lancers want a reliable car. They are well built cars, the money goes to proper screws and fasteners that hold their place.
If they could trick it out more it would help. It looks a little awkward. Its probably a good car though.
I have the exact same car in this review, it's a badass car, about to trick it out to make it look mean as fuck.
Sweet!
i have it to i like the color but i feel like i should go for the es. not much you can do with a 2.0l and i want to make it fast or turn it into an evo. feel like a 2.4l would be a better start. what do yall think?

this car might be bad, but at least Mitsubishi still makes good air conditioner units! haha
God the 2017 model is so ugly! Especially the front! The 2015 model looked much more aggressive and appealing!

Mitsubishi is about to go the way of the doodoo bird...

Those are terrible mpg figures for a four cylinder with a cvt in 2017. Everything about that car screams 2012
Interior looks like from a car in 2005
still not an Evo
The outside of the car still looks sharp and ok for 2017. However the interior sucks. Cant expect that for a 2017 car.
Basically milking the plat form for all they can
