So the way players are supposed to do that stairwell stage is... - Get the Ghost Armor to have a total of 15 hitpoints instead of 9. - Get as many Baits as possible. - Get the extremely expensive sound generator which causes the ghosts to move slower - Gain extra health by trial and error from the doors That will keep your kids busy.
But apparently the surefire way is this... - Get 2 baits - Some other stuff that might be useful - Get down to 1 HP - Get hit by a ghost hiding behind the door to do a Memory Underflow glitch to gain 255 HP
Atomic Robo Tesla It's underflow because you reduce the number in the memory slot that stores your HP below 0.And since this is an 8-bit system there are no negative numbers "usually" on these kinds of memory addresses, thus subtracting 1 from 0 results in the counter underflowing the minimum into the next nearest number it can store, which is 255.
The hardest part was to get past Stay Puft at the entrance of the Zuul-building. If you lost more than one player, the game was over and you had to start all over again.
I'm SO glad that i grown up only knowing and playing New Ghostbusters II, that was released only in Japan and PAL region. Its the best version of any Ghostbusters games on NES at least.
ThePreciseClimber dude, i know EXACTLY how you feel, i was born and lived since 1989 to 2004 in Belorussia :). This whole Famicom clones, yellow cartriges with chines letters and funny stuff like 9999 in 1 (where actually was only 3 or 4 games)... its all from my childhood :). So, i'm totally on same page with you.
12:17 I like how James knows that the counter resets to 255 when you go below 0 since NES runs on hexadecimal byte values, kinda like Zelda's 255 rupee cap.
I had ghostbusters for Atari computers (400 and 800) back in the 80s, the thing that made me realize the game was haunted was that it actually remembered my previous score even after turning the machine off. The Disk had write protect tab in it and the drive didn't appear to save the score to the disk because the disk wouldn't run at the end of the game. It had to be writing the score to the disk but I couldn't figure out how or when they did it.
sometimes james and mike get a little punchy or snippy with each other. thats real friends, i love it. like when they over correct each other or over explain. its awesome
Jonathan Unger lol quoting the nerd huh? well compared to the NES version, it's total night and day, just like the Genesis version being FAR superior to both of these games.
Come on Mike. It was definitely Winston who was missing. They didn't even include him in the movie posters or on the DVD covers. You and James know the series inside and out so I know you're aware of the disrespect that Ernie Hudson has been treated with by the producers of this franchise. It's up to good people to call out bullshit like this.
We used to play this on C64 when I was a kid, but it was different. There was marshmallow man hopping from side to side infront of the building and you had to slip through between his legs to get in. We never made it up the staircase tho
It still amazes me how needlessly convoluted this game is. Couldn't the developer just make it a simple shoot em up game where you shoot ghosts and trap them ? Whats so hard about that? Fuck , man .
Don't watch them. They Hate LJN. They're lucky we didn't make Ghostbusters. Because we would make it so much better. We wanted it to be. A Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde type style
I used to play this as a kid, I managed to get past the staircase normally a bunch of times... "conglaturations" on finally getting the glitch to work!!! This one goes to James: When u get to the top of the building, do this: stay at the bottom of the screen, go down to the second screen where u can see Stay Puff. Then, press UP on the control pad and shoot. As soon as the beam hits the boss, repeat the process: press DOWN on the control pad to go back to Stay Puff screen, then press UP again, shoot, hit boss... rinse and repeat till the boss is done. Don't forget to mention my name when u decide to make a video showing that it works! ;) Thanks for everything and PLEASE, keep up the great work!
As I recall the bizarre color choices were due to this game being originally a C64 game and they just did a pretty direct port of the palette (even though the NES pallette is slighty better then the C64 pallette)
There was another trick in this game during the Gozer fight where if you went to the bottom screen and shot Staypuff a bunch you would turn invincible for a while.
YES!!!!! That's the glitch that allowed me to get through that game every time. I posted it on somebody's channel in the comments section. I'm glad to see somebody officially acknowledge it!!
Wow. It took over 3 decades for me to realize why the Ghostbusters move so slowly on the stair level. I feel like a moron, especially since I'm such a huge fan of the movie.
Lone432345 i believe so. the only difference between the console and PC version as far as i know is that the console had online mulitplayer. which was very fun, as i owned the xbox 360 verson. i honestly played it for the multiplayer. although to be honest; there were a lot of assholes online.
Paul Revere I must be too old fashioned. If im going to play against someone. I like them to be on my couch. Also i usually don't survive that long in anything other than Co-op.
Totally agree. Most of the things they say in this video are wrong about this game were addressed and changed in the SMS version. It even has a saving system where after you lose you can restart with the money you made in the previous play, making subsequent tries progressively easier. Even James said that version is significantly better in the Nerd video.
Don't know if you guys know it, but in the battle with Gozer you can shoot Stay-Puft to knock him down the building some. He keeps coming back up, but it lets you fight Gozer without being so rushed. When I was a kid, I beat this game with the help of a Game Genie for the stairway part.
Winston's the one driving the car, obviously.
Yambo High or refuel
Max Pain game fuel??
Maybe the new trainee should drive the car
+Shatman nah!
Yambo High RAGE fuel

This should have been printed on the back of the game package! :D
So the way players are supposed to do that stairwell stage is...
- Get the Ghost Armor to have a total of 15 hitpoints instead of 9.
- Get as many Baits as possible.
- Get the extremely expensive sound generator which causes the ghosts to move slower
- Gain extra health by trial and error from the doors
That will keep your kids busy.
Don't ask me, I just wanted to do the summary. :P
kept us busy as kids.
But apparently the surefire way is this...
- Get 2 baits
- Some other stuff that might be useful
- Get down to 1 HP
- Get hit by a ghost hiding behind the door to do a Memory Underflow glitch to gain 255 HP
+Andrevus Whitetail It's an underflow? Now I understand the glitch!
11:30 Mike's reaction after game over moment just killed me XD. "This game is no good"
This game looks better than the new movie.
Well I won't argue with that Mate!
think this looks better than the Ghostbusters reboot? well you're right, and the SEGA Master System version is much better than this.
this game has better special effects
too far man. too far
Far less torturous.
Alternatively, play it on the Master System where this stage is designed properly.
PREACH!!!
You'd think the NES version of this game would be the best since it came after all the others, but it's actually the worst somehow.
Use to play this game on the C-64 over and over, back in the 80's. :-)
Yes and you didn't have to find gas all the time.
i grew up with the c 64 version myself. so glad it wasnt the nes version i grew up with.
The hardest part was to get past Stay Puft at the entrance of the Zuul-building. If you lost more than one player, the game was over and you had to start all over again.
For some reason you had to enter the door from the side instead of walking straight in which I never figured out until I saw a walkthrough
i played it on my zx spectrum 48k
I'm SO glad that i grown up only knowing and playing New Ghostbusters II, that was released only in Japan and PAL region.
Its the best version of any Ghostbusters games on NES at least.
Guess what? I was the complete opposite. I had both Ghostbusters 1&2 but I had no idea New GB2 existed untill a few years ago.
ThePreciseClimber you poor american!
ThePreciseClimber dude, i know EXACTLY how you feel, i was born and lived since 1989 to 2004 in Belorussia :). "Sucking them for money." Fucking hilarious!
I will watch you guys until the day I die!
4:42 This music will be engrained into my head until the day that I die.
@@andykishore hopeful not afterwards... 😬
10:00 James face is like: I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that...
10:08 Mike's face is: Oh fuck, I did it again!
You guys make my day!
this is Luigi's origin story. similar uniform and ghost busting :-)
Try this glitch, Don't play this game and your real life's health meter will improve.
You gave Ghostbusters 1 on the NES yet another chance - when you know it will never change it's ways.
I'm going to watch the original movie again instead of the new one 👍
You are not offended like other femenists?
You have a very bright future, my dear.
M'Lady
You made the right choice!
ok
12:17 I like how James knows that the counter resets to 255 when you go below 0 since NES runs on hexadecimal byte values, kinda like Zelda's 255 rupee cap.

I like how the auto generated subtitles could even tell they were saying "Conglaturations"
That music still haunts me
This is way more enjoyable than the garbage coming out on July 15th. Thanks for the tip on the stairs. We just used Game Genie on my channel.
"Dodge the projectiles." "Hit Gozer as much as you can." Sage advice, Mike. Sage advice.
11:35 LOL i love these guys more than family
One of the funniest moments in J&MM history and I would've missed it if it wasn't for your comment.
+SiGhast im happy my comment helped you laugh(: i love these guys
more than.....family? try not to idolise them
Ghostbusters for the Sega Master System was a much better version of the game.
yes it was, i played it a lot as a kid, very enjoyable for what it was.
I agree!
Don't say that I missed out on it as a kid :(
some one with the same opinion as I.
Jonathan Unger lol quoting the nerd huh? well compared to the NES version, it's total night and day, just like the Genesis version being FAR superior to both of these games.
9:55 This is a legendary moment! I laughed so hard.
Come on Mike. It was definitely Winston who was missing. They didn't even include him in the movie posters or on the DVD covers. Happy birthday, James!!!
9:58 makes the whole video worth it
We used to play this on C64 when I was a kid, but it was different. There was marshmallow man hopping from side to side infront of the building and you had to slip through between his legs to get in. We never made it up the staircase tho
This summer, who you gonna call? The answer is HE-MAN! HE-MAN!! :)
Question: In your profile pic, how do you do that process?
on the road section, if you stay at the very top right of the screen, you will almost never get hit.
"It's really meant for money, sucking them for money."
- Mike Matei, 2016
Loved that quick look to the camera by James when Mike did the "suckin these guys in" line.
James is so funny. He gets so intense and serious. You can see the nerdy child come out.
"Suckin' them for money!"
Mike's reaction was priceless.
It still amazes me how needlessly convoluted this game is. Couldn't the developer just make it a simple shoot em up game where you shoot ghosts and trap them ? Whats so hard about that? Fuck , man .
ikr? ghost busters for the ds actually did It right where it is just a shoot em up ghost game.
Because it's a port of a media tie in game for Atari. "Needlessly convoluted" is the name of the game there.
Best James & Mike Monday I've seen in a while.
holy shit James rolfe in a Cinemassacre video, this is rare..
***** Yeah well he went from the star of cinemassacre to making once a week appearances. Sad.
nah just wasting this idiot's time here :)
Its almost like he has a life....amazing isn't it.
Being in over 70% of recent videos is rare? What a moronic thing to say...
Posting this comment in October...
Worst timing ever, dude.
Conglaturations on beating the stairs at least!
1:17 Explanation
11:52 Execution
James on his phone is such a weird thing to see.
The Ghostbusters in this game look like Luigi. This is more Luigi's Mansion than Ghostbusters.
this is in their horror games playlist. excellent.
Mike when the new Ghost busters drops like a smelly turd you gotta do a stream of the 360 game, please!!
It's the third movie!
Agreed
James and Mike should check out Ghostbusters Remasred hack of the original NES game. Now THIS is a quality improvement.
This game has better graphics than the cgi in the new Ghostbusters movie.
Still wrapping my head around the NES Ghostbusters is just a updated version of the Atari 2600 Ghostbusters.
9:56 Funniest moment in the video XD
Conglaturations on doing the glitch right!
shit day at work, this is exactly what I need
thanks James, thanks Mike
I did this glitch a number of times by accident as a kid and never understood what happened...now I know...
Don't watch them. They Hate LJN. They're lucky we didn't make Ghostbusters. Because we would make it so much better. We wanted it to be. A Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde type style
Oh wow the shit rainbow has to comment now! What does LJN stand for? Leave alone and just Never Touch?
"nostalgia critic i'm a bad troll" its on youtube
+branaa09 this LJN is obviously an imposter.
The games you publish are worse than EA's.
+Nahvec indeed
I used to play this as a kid, I managed to get past the staircase normally a bunch of times...
"conglaturations" on finally getting the glitch to work!!!
This one goes to James: When u get to the top of the building, do this: stay at the bottom of the screen, go down to the second screen where u can see Stay Puff. Thanks for everything and PLEASE, keep up the great work!

James,Ghostbusters 3=4 woman,LOL
Cinemassacre have you considered an emulator that way if you fail the final boss or the stairs you can go back
They have said countless times that they don't like using emulators at all.
[LNG]nascarfreak83 yeah but this game is a piece of shit
Yeah, played this game back in the day and yeah it was and still is a hunk of shit lol
As I recall the bizarre color choices were due to this game being originally a C64 game and they just did a pretty direct port of the palette (even though the NES pallette is slighty better then the C64 pallette)
I ain't fraid no gas
Conglaturations on getting to the top of the stairs guys!
NO stairway? Denied !
ABSOLUTELY NO STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN!
Good call!
Ghosts: *exist*
Ghostbusters: * sucks them for money.*
NES ghostbusters, still better than the remake.
There was another trick in this game during the Gozer fight where if you went to the bottom screen and shot Staypuff a bunch you would turn invincible for a while.
Can we all here just make an agreement NOT to go see the new Ghostbusters movie?
The new all-female Ghostbusters movie coming out this summer +ganymedelV4
That's such a misogynist thing to say.
how?
The heat at 11:18. That’s buddies.
Considering how bad this game is James makes a lot of videos about it lol.
YES!!!!!
That's the glitch that allowed me to get through that game every time.
I posted it on somebody's channel in the comments section. I'm glad to see somebody officially acknowledge it!!
Anyone else sick of the Mobile Strike ad??
Sometimes, you can have too many choppas.
+ganymedeIV4 fuck Casey Nestat
Yes indeed, same thing happened on Swagbucks and SBTV mobile apps and it stops while the ad is still on unless I clicked the "X"
yes very much so especially the unskipable 30 second video ad an Pandora I really hate mobile strike now because of the unavoidable ads
Does anyone remember the unskipable Ad for Just Dance 2014 back in late 204?
Looking at James' expressions at the start of this video just makes me think how funny a silent AVGN movie or episode would be.
Seriously though, watching nerd lose more hair with every video makes me smile. Thanks!
we need more videos please keep making them and pumping them out
9:56 the sexual tension is real
Wow. It took over 3 decades for me to realize why the Ghostbusters move so slowly on the stair level. I feel like a moron, especially since I'm such a huge fan of the movie.
Mike, Ghostbusters for PC is better than Ghostbusters for Xbox 360. Play that.
aren't they the same game?
You mean the DOS game from Activision.
Wasnt it also for the PS3.
Lone432345
i believe so. the only difference between the console and PC version as far as i know is that the console had online mulitplayer. which was very fun, as i owned the xbox 360 verson. i honestly played it for the multiplayer. although to be honest; there were a lot of assholes online.

I played Ghostbusters on the commodore 64 and as a kid back then i really liked it.
or you could like, play the Sega Master System version, which was not shit.
It was shit, just slightly less shit.
It was shit, just slightly less shit.
It was shit, just slightly less shit.
it was shit, just slightly less shit

Conglaturations on doing the Glitch!
Hahaha, made me laugh so hard. Mike just suck them for money Matei!!!
Mikes knows all about those longer proton beams ;)
The nerd has to watch this
The sound generator makes you invincible on the staircase.
how the hell are you supposed to do that stage legitly without game-genie or that glitch?
Guide the ghosts with strategy, don't keep walking into them. I used to beat this over and over without using any glitches.
Buttered Toast that's what she said ;)
I was looking for someone that had here. The game would actually be broken if it couldn't be completed without glitches and cheats
Priceless.
You could just have said "capturing" him, Mike.
"This game is no good" Lol
0:41 GERHSTBUSTERS
This game sucks.
like a ghost vacum
And u spit.
Well it certainly does suck
no shit
+thebringer665 Caught Lethal Weapon on Netflix, huh?
Egon is the one that's missing! That's why you have to buy your equipment, because Egon's not there to make it!
"You gotta get that glitch."
Or just play one of the versions of the game that wasn't programmed by a kindergarten class.
0:34 Ghostbusters 'n Goblins!
We can conclude, that James rather spends his time playing this shitty game, than watching the upcoming movie. :-D
that movie is gonna do so bad i'm certain
It's gonna be the biggest flop in years...
+SolarstrikeVG Nothing can beat 'the 13th warrior' as biggest bomb of all time. And for the 2015/2016 mark, Jem and the holograms.
styx84 Who knows?
9:56 wow that slip of the tongue Mike. XD I'm dying.
Man I love these guys!
Don't know if you guys know it, but in the battle with Gozer you can shoot Stay-Puft to knock him down the building some. He keeps coming back up, but it lets you fight Gozer without being so rushed. When I was a kid, I beat this game with the help of a Game Genie for the stairway part.
Those "Sucking them in" and "Sucking them for money" had me rolling!
11:35 The review summed up beautifully.
