My homie and I are Niner fans and we were sitting in the black hole in this game. We couldn't celebrate out loud after Jose Cortez redeemed himself with the game winning FG in OT because we didn't want to get mugged in the enemy territory. I remember having a smirk on my face while walking to the parking lot. And once we got inside my car, we were cackling about beating the Raiders at their place and drove away happy!
On the little break-in of the St Louis-Arizona game you can hear Tim Ryan call a bit of the action. I listen to KNBR during 49ers games and the difference between Ryan the Fox analyst and Ryan the 49er homer is fun to listen to.
One thing about watching these games is seeing the HOFers and also the commercials. Seeing how business and technology has evolved over the years puts things into perspective
great game. its a shame the nfl botched this matchup for the battle of the bay in 2018. that game had sunday afternoon or sunday night written all over it. but thats the nfl for you.
The still-rebuilding 49ers and the Raiders were coming off losing seasons the previous season so a Sunday Night game wasn’t scheduled for that reason-casual football fans aka the NFL’s real target audience only wants to see winning football teams or teams with LOTS of offseason buzz (this season’s Browns).
These commercials are so interesting. They really take me back. I remember those first autotrader commercials like they were yesterday. The flip phones with very basic web browsing and the ability to take and send pictures was really something back then. I remember my co-worker had one of these phones and I was amazed he could check sports scores from it 🤣 Then the PDA (personal data assistants) commercials, I actually had one of these at the time. Apple engineers were probably watching all of this at the time thinking "wait until you see what we are going to make". Of course Blackberry was big at the time but those weren't mainstream and mostly in the hands of lawyers and corporate types. Also Saturn commercials and desktop computers with cd-rom trays. It's like stepping into a Time Machine.

classic battle of the bay. This was the only time I could remember where both teams were good at the same time.
2002 was the one year where both Bay Area NFL teams came closest to meeting each other in the Super Bowl.
