I had something happen similar to what you you described as the heartbeat meditation when I was about 12 yrs old and snorkelling around our pool. I got into a deep trance listening to my breath and just looking at the nothingness of the walls of the pool. It was a profound feeling that I’ve never forgotten. I had completely let go - so much so I eventually jumped up out of the water in panic as I wasn’t even sure I was alive or even breathing. I thought is this was it’s like to drown and just let go? ( which you and I know I did drown a “few”lifetimes back 😉)
