    If Yngwie was the Bach of modern guitar (in terms of baroque styling) then Jason Becker was the Rachmaninoff. Very modernist 'classical' complete mastery and his very own vocabulary.

    When Marty and Jason collaborated it was like Yngwie X 2 on crack & Perpetual Burn is a legendary guitar record that'll be talked about for as long as guitars exist. Amazing what he did in such a short time.

    Jason has it all. Still does. I have been playing guitar for four decades, almost three of them as a professional, and sometimes I still want to turn my guitars into coffeetables and knit a sweater or something after hearing yet another masterpiece by mr. Becker. Not just his one of a kind techniqual skills, but his compositions people. The sheer beauty!

      That is what makes us guitarist better at it, trying to play as good as other players ( in this case Jason) even though it seems we can't and even if we could, we would all sound the same and that would become uninteresting. I bet you are a great guitar player! Even the virtuoso's knock themselves thinking they are not good enough.

    I can't get enough of Jason's playing. He could absolutely shred but would build these gorgeous melodies and progressions from the licks he was burning through. He'd play those arpeggios so fast you didnt hear individual notes but just the flavour of the notes without it simply being a chord.

    When I was young, I felt the same way about these fellers. I started playing when I was 12. I was an avid metal head!. I'm 51 now, and my tastes have changed a lot. I'm into jazz now for goodness sake! I don't like technical players now as much. I like feel nowadays, except for Vai. Somehow, even though he's technical, he's got feel as well. I went through my Eddie stage too lol. I learned sweeping a couple of years ago. I can add little sweeping phrases, but not big complicated ones, to my playing. When I first heard Yngwie, it blew my fragile eggshell mind! I was like, how is he picking so fast. A lot of years passed before I seen how it was done. I remember trying to learn a phrase in the song, "I'll See the Light Tonight". I think it was a part right before the solo. I picked every note on the strings lmao! I got kinda fast with it, but I just gave up lol. When I found out later, I was like, Oooh! That's how it's done. Ah, the good old days of youth. I think maybe you should do a video on a couple of his licks🤣. Love your vids my man! Keep on keepin' on, and keep Rocking out on these videos! You've became one if my favorite channels. 🎵♥🎸🎶🤘😝🤘

      @aylbdrmadison1051 3 года назад

      Through spending a decade playing at the very least 8 hours per day, I managed to attain that speed, but not with that much clarity. I finally figured out that there are very few people who can play like that even with a ton of practice. Now that's alright though because we are all unique players and can bring something unique to playing the guitar. It took me almost another decade just to be comfortable with that though. (tricky part is the finger roll across "barred" parts).

      @@aylbdrmadison1051 I've been playing for a long time but all blues, heavy rock, punk, and metal. I am not and will never be a shredder. I can play my ass off but this style of shred is beyond me. Guys like Vai, Petrucci, Satriani and Malmsteen are masters. Now Page, Hendrix, Gibbons, Iommi, guys like that I can handle. I continue to learn and try these things but like you said "very few people who can play like that even with a ton of practice". LOL. I still practice every day and steel from every body and I take pieces of this stuff and add it to my playing. Gibson/Marshall guy lol. Thanks for the comment. Rock on.

      exactly, It's reminiscent, he is playing it in G major, chord sequence of the Pachelbel Cannon is ; I-V-vi-iii-IV-I-IV-V so in D--> D>A>Bm>F#m>G>D>G>A, so transposed to G major--> G>D>Em>Bm>C>G>C>D. David is doing G>D>Em>D>C>G>C>D. So similar, not exactly. Still sounds cool. Like Yngwie said about learning Paganini's 5th caprice "why do boring scales and arpeggio's when you can play actual Music" or something to that effect...

    Excellent! When I first heard Cacophony - it blew me away that JB was only like 17 man! Unreal! His comps are stellar! He continues to make music with the use of a computer and still is a mad genius for sure!
    You did Rex Carroll - did you ever hear the band Shout with Ken Tamplin? They rip a song called "Facts In Your Face" that begins with dual shred guitars and they just wail till the end.
    I really like your channel content, and definitely grew up listening to, and playing - the same songs, digging the same bands as you. We grew up in the era of legendary guitarists! There are still great players out there, but Rhoads, Lynch, Bratta, DeMartini, Friedman, Becker, MacAlpine, Saraceno, Firkins, Howe, Moore, ALL the Shrapnel Records guys, Malmsteen.........and so many more??! We really had some of the greatest of all time! When I saw Ozzy on the Blizzard Tour 81 in Cleveland - my 13 year old mind was completely blown away by Randy Rhoads' live guitar playing! It was INSANE! Within 10 days I had a tobacco-sunburst Crestline Les Paul copy. I wanted to paint it that off-white color so bad, but no. I knew exactly what I wanted to do!!! Great players for sure! Keep doing the good stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🤘😁🤘

    I bookmarked this and after 2 years finally learned the sweep progression at the end which I really like :). - I think for the positioning on the descending D Major for example, that Jason moves down from the A note on the G string to the F# on the G string then plays the D on the D string A on the A string and F# on the low E string. This allows him to pull of to the E then hammer on to the G for the next E minor. I think he uses the same approach for the B minor. This is how he can ramp up the speed and get it to sound so slippery smooth. All subjective of course, whatever works, works.

Jason Becker has created the hardest lines on the guitar that even Steve Vai said "Jason has a unique approach, has this relentless attack on the instrument, I cant play like that."😉

The arpeggios are interesting to me, even without the sweeping (which I don't do -- I'm primarily a rhythm and slide player), but the scales themselves have given me something to work into the slide playing. I came up with one exercise not sure if its economical, but its like the hotel california chord progression. You can just do three note chord arpeggios that have the bottom moving 1/2 steps by starting on 1st to 3rd of the sixth chord then back to first with the 2 chord. all major for example start on g arpeggiate a couple octaves then back down then up to g# being the starting note for the e arpeggio then same up and back down then to A ...the pattern repeats. You can move it up or back down but you get those connectors to the chords moving in half steps. cycle of something up a sixth down a fifth etc. thats what the hotel california progression does basically
