That's because the song is basically Margaret taking the piss out of Travis, insulting who he is and what he stands for. Travis ended the first game with a peace of mind that killing isn't something that should be enjoyed, however when Bishop was killed he let himself succumb to murderous rage. As far as Margaret is concerned, that makes him a hypocrite using revenge to justify murder.

I'm not sure why exactly, but the way the lyrics are sung, how it feels like they shouldn't work but they do anyway always gives me shivers, even when I imagine the song in my head.
Gotta be the only person on Earth who prefers this version, don't get me wrong the instrumentation on the JP version is superior, but the sheer levels of autotune really lose the melody in parts I feel, and the main draw to the song is its catchiness, which is conveyed better with the clearer vocals in this version. Got no clue what people mean by 'off tune' or 'off key', like if she is actually singing off-key, the dissonance is working REALLY well for her cause this sounds phenomenal.

Most comments are just fawning over Travis Touchdown (that last name still sounds ridiculous), but instead of talking about him, I want to write a comment about the singer, Nadia Gifford. I find it very depressing that she's not more popular over here, and most of her music is exclusive to Japan. She did an amazing job singing the songs for Coriander "Connie" from Steambot Chronicles, and then on here singing this song for Margaret. She seriously needs more Western exposure, because she's got a damn good English singing voice. Like Nadia Gifford, her English is so good you could barely tell she's Japanese. That said, English or not, I just want more of her music because she has a great voice and huge talent.
I always have a hard time choosing my favorite one, the EU/JP one has a lot of merit but I still enjoy the instrumental of this, especially the clear vocals
I'll list some that deserve this: Scarecrow (Arkham Asylum), The Devil (Cuphead), Squid (Will You Snail), Phobos (Madness Combat: Project Nexus), Sans (Undertale)
2:58 this is an old-ish otaku reference. The AT field from Evangeline stands for absolute territory. The Japanese translation, zettai ryoiki, became slang for the visible area of the thighs between the bottom of a miniskirt and above the stockings i.e. a nearly physically impenetrable area
philistine from wikipedia: The Philistines (Hebrew: פְלִשְׁתִּים, p'lishtim) (see "other uses" below) were a people who occupied the southern coast of Canaan, their territory being named Philistia in later contexts.
Thanks to these comments I now know what Philistine means. I now realize she is talking absolute shit about weebs who flat out disown themselves from their own country simply cuz they like anime or some shit. So now it makes perfect sense that she was singing this to Travis.
...No. This song is Margret calling Travis out on his Hypocrisy. He ends the first game having realized violence is not something to indulge in, yet when Bishop is killed he goes ballistic and starts murdering left and right. So she's pointing out how flimsy of a justification that is. The reason there are so many references to the Otaku lifestyle is because that's what Travis is.
Evnyofdeath Perfect. Basically she describes almost everything about him, even about turning into a tiger. but even calling him a philistine I would think was to call him uncultured and uneducated, especially since it comes up in "You think payback makes you a noble man? well you're a *** philistine!". seeing as how philistine is a specification of ignorant only to "culture". if I had to guess, it's to couple with calling him an otaku and looking like an armature assassin, and killing/avenging for his own means. but that's just my guess.
Evnyofdeath I think you both have a point. The song is clearly directed at Travis (maybe she rewrites it for every fight to fit her target, but keeps the melody?) And she's clearly mocking him for acting like getting revenge for Bishop makes him butchering his way through the assassins "justified" and makes him "a hero" but she also makes several comments that consist solely of taking potshots at Travis's lifestyle. I think the point of the song is her making it clear to Travis that she knows everything about him because, as she says "reaper's got your name" You can also interpret it as Margaret acknowledging that she doesn't having any *real* grievance against Travis, but that one of them *has* to die now. "Requiem Æternam" is a Christian prayer to (depending on the sect) allow the departed to quickly ascend from Purgatory to Heaven/ to rest in Paradise until the Last Judgment. Even the place she claims to be aiming for, the sternum, would be a relatively quick death if struck by a bullet from a Barrett M82 like Le croissant du ange.
Honestly if his splash screen wasn't accompanied by him saying "FUCKHEAD" and a distant cry of "MY SPLEEN!", it'd be wrong. And it will never happen sadly
Looking at all these old comments analyzing this song from a game I have never played has made me reevaluate what exactly the message of No More Heroes is from my perspective, which is probably also wrong.
I saw the rank four boss and didn't get why people liked her so much. She literally has two lines and they both just talk about her lil' song. But I think this song does the best at characterizing Margaret. It reminds me of Metal Gear Rising, where the songs for the characters do a great job of filling in the blanks of a character's personality. Dope ass song.
So one thing I always wondered with the "boys cannot crack this oyster shell," and her admitting she is a "pure girl." Does that mean Margaret is a virgin? That is my assumption but still
I prefer US version, it's more clean. UPD: Year or more have passed and now I love both of them, Jap version slaps too, man I love 2:10-2:56 so much. Jap version just has more energetic and creative mixing, mainly instrumental parts but also voice filtering. Eng one then seems boring when you return to it xD, but it is just more clean with stable rhythm and lyrics to hear clearly, more clarity.
+corjonbett Its "Thigh High socks 'ARE'" I repeat "ARE" my absolute territory. She is not talking about her upper thighs or any part above that. She is talking about what she wears, not her fun bits. I know it sounds like 'and' in the song but she sings that part a little too fast so that is why. I listened to that part over myself cause I thought I heard AND as well the first time, then I heard ARE the second time, though it is a bit muffled and whatnot.
I like how the song references the fact that Travis is a huge weeb

Before listening to this, I don't know if I've ever heard someone pronounce the "W" in "Sword."
Margaret Moonlight is one of the best video game bosses IMHO.
Alyssa Bilano she was honestly fun as hell to fight 😁 plus, sickles that are also guns is a fucking win in my books.
I really loved the song but tbh her fight was kinda lacking in my opinion , she deserved way more characterisation beyond what we got :'c
REAPER REAPER MY NAMES REAPER
I saw the rank four boss and didn't get why people liked her so much. She literally has two lines and they both just talk about her lil' song. But I think this song does the best at characterizing Margaret. It reminds me of Metal Gear Rising, where the songs for the characters do a great job of filling in the blanks of a character's personality. Dope ass song.
I always wished for a nmh3 but, to tell you the truth, i think this nmh Is the Best of the trilogy!
REAPER REAPER MY NAME'S REAPER
holy shit this game came out 10 years ago im old now wtf
do yall know why ppl die when she sing?? coz they cant handle such epicness
i totally want my own dual laser scythes that double as guns
Macho Pony F U C K Y E S.
I'd settle for just a quad-crossguard beam katana and an Irish accent
WHY IS THIS SO CATCHY?!
'Cause you're a goddamn Philistine!
@@MCArt25 😪 I still am 12 years later
Honestly I'm one of the few that prefers this one over the JP version.
This song is WAY too damn catchy.
Favorite boss in this series. She got fucked up, but I’m just glad she didn’t get it worse than a lot of other characters.
cant... stop... listening...
Wow it really does sound like and...glad I read the lyrics while listening to the first loop.
ive never had a more fun being insulted in song, i mean wow
This song is catchy as hell... sersiously I've been listening to this non stop for a several days and still love it
One of the best soundtracks to match one of the best games of all time.
One of the coolest and hardest bosses in the entire game.I struggled in particular with Margaret and Pizza Bat JR.
So one thing I always wondered with the "boys cannot crack this oyster shell," and her admitting she is a "pure girl." Does that mean Margaret is a virgin? That is my assumption but still
If that's true she died as a Virgin.
ya it sounds like she's a celibate
*Reaper reaper my name reaper*
Surprised at the lack of jerma comments
pepeD
I'm addicted to it, and I listen to it every day like sick.
The best piece of music in any game ever no exaggeration
"Reaper Reaper my names Reaper!" - Jerma985
I like how the song is directed to Travis XD
It's Thigh high socks AND my absolute territory.
The Absolute Territory is the part of her legs NOT covered by the socks.

I stand corrected. Sorry, ignorant American here, not accustomed to other cultures customs and whatnot. So yes, it is AND.
No problem
Actually, I am glad I was right, I've had this argument before, lol.
+corjonbett What grade is she? Like A or B?
I love this song so much.
Finally, I can sing along when I blast this in my earphones!
My favorite version of this song is whichever one I listened to last.
Reaper in FFXIV starting today :D
The song everyone will play when Endwalker comes out.
God dammit I feel so called out right now
Yep...
In the Tower of Babil bopping to this while Guillotining tempered Garleans, living my best life.
Fuck I was not expecting the comment section to slap me in the face...
Me, a newly converted reaper main: *sweats*
Margaret: Another hero, oh please.
That was naive, Margaret.
In the distance, a GODDAMN SUPERHERO was being made, and he was much worse than this.
I have to say, the song is really missing that electric guitar
Margeret Moonlight should join the Black Baron
iTANKuUP she needs to be in madworld 3. (I know anarchy reigns ain't the same really but I kinda count it as madworld 2)
plot twist: the black baron isn't black!
REAPER CLASS REVEAL
Catch me fantasia'ing to Margaret Moonlight and bopping this song while my party dies
This is the second best song from the soundtracks of the No More Heroes saga making Bad Girl's Pleather for Breakfast #1.
When you play resident evil 5 and see a reaper this song plays
I Love this song No More Heroes 2 Soundtrack is Awesome
well played Phoenix, you have successfully avoided being labeled as a sociopath CONGRATS!
travis said he’s remember the song, it’s be nice to hear him hum it in a game or something
We hit 1 million views boys
Reaper? Aw Man
so we back on the school, got our gun scythes swinging from side to side, side side to side
