Historic Modesto A&W restaurant forced to close due to lawsuit

It’s the end of an era for the decades-old A&W restaurant in Downtown Modesto. The restaurant served its last burger and signature root beer float on Wednesday after a lawsuit forced business owners to shut the business down sooner than expected. Owner Johnny Matthews was emotional as he flipped the last burgers he would ever serve at his 1950s-era business.
